Hello.. same here. I've bought b9.. And I've read on rtings that the pre-calibration on this TV is very bad. But after the calibration, it even surpasses c9. But I'm a noob in all these things. So my question is from this video settings can I match my B9 calibration settings with the C9 ? Thanks.

Your information and approach to picture setup on the LG C9 is exceptional. I did find that the defaults on any device - fresh out of the box were useless. On my C9 everything initially looked like "Video" and mostly very grainy. SDR for the cable provider worked well with the "ISF - Expert - Dark Room" with modest tweaks per environment. Netflix and Amazon Prime also worked well with "ISF - Expert - Dark Room" following the suggestions but this is where it required more changes to OLED, Contrast and Color. The original "Blade Runner" - 4K HDR DVD was very grainy on "Cinema" - "Technicolor Expert" was more natural as the original Film Stock, at the time, had more grain than current Kodak Negative Stocks. Apple TV defaulted to HDR and a "Picture'"preset that looked like "Video". "Cinema" was more accurate and appropriate here. I think everyone is going to discover differences that require learning the basic tools for "Picture Setup". It is a good suggestion that people generally stay clear of color management that get you in the realm of calibration. My experience as a cinematographer for 30 years - the picture quality is stunning with out it.

Hmm, I think I am messing up. I am using a dennon reciever for my video switching between an ultra HD blu ray player, my computer and my roku. All plugged into the hdmi 1 port. From what I can gather from this I need to use a different input and brightness/contrast settings when using HDR content? So I should be using a seperate input for at least my blu ray player, and maybe my roku (not sure it does HDR) and then calibrate/adjust those inputs seperately. Which would be ok except it presents audio routing complications. The whole reason I got a video switching reciever was so I could use the audio via the hdmi cables lol.

What is the consensus on using dynamic tone mapping for the HDR settings, on or off on the c9? Many reviewers seem to like it, but the more heavy ones (like rtings) prefer it off. Do you set it to off or on? On looks too bright, especially in game mode but do add detail in very bright scenes. Also, do you prefer using the RGB setting or 4:2:0 when connecting it to a Nvidia GPU? Activating HDR when setting it to RGB FULL looks exactly the same as setting it to 4:2:0 or 4:2:2 for me... cannot wait for the G-sync firmware update!

That's fine, I like it too. But the main thing is that it's not what MOVIES are intended to look like; most Hollywood movies specifically. Basically, if you set the TV settings for "most accurate", then it just means that your watching the movie in its closest form to what the director "wanted it to look like". So when the director, the guy who pretty decides how a movie will look and how it's displayed, was filming and making the movie, he made it in a specific way to be seen. When we're aiming for the most accurate setting, we're trying as close to that as we can. I'm just saying this as a tip. At the end of the day it's your TV and it's your choice how you like it :) But just know that you're watching the movie not in the way it was intended to be viewed by the director.

Still playing around with the other settings as we only got the 65C9 a week or so ago but also maxed Sharpness to 50 together with White Balance Colour Temp Medium for other stuff as well and it looks heaps better, at least to me. Picture is super bright even in a bright room and the colours just pop whereas with the default Warm and low Sharpness settings there was just no wow factor. Looked like any other 4K TV to me.

I can pause a scene and turn it off and on, see things lost in shadow when I turn it to high, yet many reviews say leave to low. I follow the likes of your settings and that is the only thing that is off with my picture, just too dark and crushed, though could it be TV has had only about 150 hrs use, did read some people saying TV needs time to settle...no idea how true that is?

It's not a good idea to raise the brightness above 51. So you destroy the black referenze and will lose contrast and realt black. At the end you have a black like an non Oled. To see the near black pattern you better have to raise the low end of the gamma equalizer. So you won't lose black and also can see near black.

I would like to invest in one of these tvs,the C9 would be more than likely my choice, but I would be to worried about burn in. I don’t believe one should have to “babysit “ a tv or worry about falling asleep after watching a movie or streaming something. I’m leaning toward the Samsung Q80R 55 inch.

  • @Leitefsj

I know, right? I bought my C9 worring about that too, but image quality is second to none: colors and black levels are impressive! So, all things considered, I think it's worth the risk. And I say risk in a huge metaphorical way, because if you're aware of dangerous situations (like CNN logos, unnecessary game huds or unhealthy long TV sessions), you'll be fine. I came from a 9 years-old plasma panel, so I think I may be used to it. Also, LG has built in the TV some features designed to prevent burn-in. Maybe that's just me trying not to worry much, but I feel confident nevertheless.

Im telling u right now the samsung is gonna disappoint. Forget the c9. It has a more "futuristic" look than the E9 but the E9 is the superior model. That samsung screen will break when u bump into it or put down a cup like i did. Seriously my samsung which i bought in 2018 brand new broke a few months ago cuz i set down a cup on the shelf under the tv. The vibration sent a huge black line going across my tv vertically. Now its rainbow colored. I just got the E9 almost got the C9 but the price being a little lower isnt even worth it. The E9 has a strong screen. The salesmen encouraged me to knock on it and slap it and nothing. No lights or hand prints. Spend a little more on that E9 and you will be fucking happy. The E9 also has really good sound. So u dont have to worry about getting that sound bar or surround sound for a while cuz the sound is just really good. U can jam to spotify on the E9 and it sounds like a decent car system.

The reason why you can't tell a difference is because you tried it on frames that didn't have the artifact problem or you tried it on high quality content.

Actually E9 is better. Ur way better off. I just compared them at my favorite store and the E9 won by my standards and even the manager was jealous cuz he got the E8. The E9 is just so much fucking better bro. It has a better processor so its going to be very good for gaming.

I just bought the pdf files from the store. How do I use this information to adjust white point balance? I was expecting all of the settings to be written out in the pdf.

Hi! Thanks for the purchase. It would be misleading to post individual white balance settings in the document as there is a chance you would get worse white balance then it is on your unit. The document works as a guide to help you understand all the controls and how you can do a lot simply by tweaking them. Of course that for correct white balance, gamma and colors you need to perform the actual calibration.

@@marcomorales2739 No worries congrats it's worth every cent for mine. But do play around with picture settings. Don't just take the "accurate" or default settings as gospel. For me maxing Sharpness to 50 together with White Balance Colour Temp Medium took it to another level :)

Jonnybeans Hungry it will only show up when you are viewing HDR or DOLBY Vision content. Start watching something in that format and then check settings, it should be there.
