Letters to an Asexual #92 ("So only cis straight men hate aces?")

This is #92 of a series in which I read correspondence between me and people who have questions, comments, or--more often--misconceptions about asexuality. In this video, a commenter is scandalized that I uttered the phrase "cis hetero man" in a video and assumed my analysis of toxic masculinity meant I'm shaming men and blame only cis straight men for anti-asexual rhetoric. I debunk that, discuss majority groups' privilege in context, and talk about other major groups who have been using poisonous messages to harass asexual people.

Working in retail... I realize some people just are not willing to face reality and are proud of being a jerk with the amount of chosen ignorance they have.

Same can be said for any job where you work with the public. People are always quick to remind me that they suck.

The more i realise how much hate we get for just not wanting sex, the more i have to wonder what thoughts go through their heads, this is twice as confusing if they are lgbt. When they are ace though i think it shorts out part of my brain.

5:34 Doesn't the term "cis" come directly from chemistry? I believe you, but why would anyone ever think it was a slur?

I mean, it comes from Latin and is used in chemistry and other places an awful lot! It's not a slur, but for people who think they should be called "normal" and everyone ELSE be labeled, trying to name the majority feels like an insult to them. Just goes to show that when they use sexuality or gender labels to describe what we are, they DO mean them as slurs. They must, if they think we are insulting them by just trying to talk about them.
