I really enjoyed this podcast interview with the honourable gentleman Leong Mun Wai . He really made good points on the state of Singapore and i would encourage sharing this.

LMW is often made fun of, but he shared some things about how the economy works that opened my eyes. This interview changed my view about Mr Leong. Some of his ideas sound underdeveloped, but some of his views I think are quite valid. I think the government probably shares some of his long-term views but is scared to publicly agree with him because of the optics

I must say many have had negative views of LMW (including me) due to how his questions in Parliament paint him as a very antagonistic person. Here, in this interview, he comes across as a very agreeable and amiable person. LMW is in my view a very principled and nice man. Pleasant change of opinion.

Great conversation. Singaporean here and just wanted to share my story. Graduated with a media & production degree and had a mediocre pay over the next 2 years. Jumped into banking as a RM and left after 4 years due to moral hazard and finally another jump into tech as a software developer, taking advantage of IMDA subsidies through a coding bootcamp. Have been working for over 7 years now and I have to say that the people who taught me the skills I needed weren’t fellow Singaporeans but (surprisingly) rather the Vietnamese, Chinese and the Indians I meet at work. As such, I don’t discount the “foreign talents” Govt brings in, because some are highly competent and people like myself get to level up because of them. They are mostly here to contribute their skillsets, spend and boost SG’s economy (Cus they also need to rent/eat/spend on weekends - and Singaporeans are the beneficiaries) but eventually will have to return to their homeland as chances of securing citizenry is close to zilch. At least for me, I can be thankful.

When a .minister is interviewed, you get a mouthful of assertions of what the govt has done that is good for the citizens couched in patronizing language. Listening to LMW is refreshing bec he identifies problems and issues underlying people's quality of life and he offers ideas and potential solutions to them. That's how leaders with sincere convictions make the difference in helping the country to move forward. Great job LWC!

Good interview and Mr Leong has made some good points. I respect people like him who want to contribute and also have skin in the game. The way he speaks is way better than those from other parties who always seem to be angry. I hope his views on the new generation is true as I find that they are not interested in politics or economy and not being able to ask the Why questions as they have been brainwashed. I have my own theory that the government wants the citizens that way so that they are easy to control.

the reason why SMEs cannot and won't lead the in-house training is because even upper management does not know what skills they require in the future. does to show how inept these SMEs are in terms of workforce planning and skills training.

Really appreciate those points by Mr. Leong. In IT and construction , we have been relying on foreigners since 15 years ago, and now things are still pretty much the same. We gave grants to companies hoping that they will train Singaporeans, once the money stops, companies go back to foreigners (or leave). As locals, what's the point of studying for 3-4 years paying 30-40K SGD so that some one cheaper can do your job? No offense to foreigners, but what are we studying for? We have so many millionaires, but on the other spectrum we have Singaporeans who are hard working yet struggling to survive (I can never understand why we have old aunty and uncles, standing long hours, collecting plates at hawker centers). SG govt needs to focus on creating a conducive environment for Singaporeans to be innovators and produce quality work so that not just in SG, but in the region we would be sought after. Is not a matter how many jobs the govt created or the high employability rate, the focus should be on the good quality jobs that would take the country into the next century. At the end of the day, how many of these people are happy or satisfy with their jobs? Or are they just working because it helps to pay the bills? Perhaps if we can hire foreigners as our MPs and ministers the above might not be an issue. PS: The football thing, really touched a raw nerve. While our Mr. Tong can spend a few years planning for Taylor Swift concert, nothing much but lip service and simple outreach programs has been done for local football. Football is not something you get the youth to come together a few days a week and kick the ball around, hoping you find the next star. The fact that we are always bring up Fandi, shows that since then we have not a single star worth mentioning. Then again, perhaps, Singaporeans are all just to busy in this Rat race (that we could only prioritize anything with immediate monetary value) to entertain the slightest form of realizing our dream.

Hey nice to see LMW, I get reminded of a monologue of a scene in a famous movie “Because he's the hero Singapore deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A dark knight.”😊

How leong addresses his flaws and critiques is snapshot of what's wrong with him. He doesn't embrace it with power to make a progress. He enthu but not collected is the cause of his lack of quality propositions in Parliment. His "zone" vs other MP on podcast. He is better behind the scenes(finish ypur homework) than speaking. Well done Haresh for giving him a chance to address the issue he has.

Mun Wai replied to the question of whether his speeches about jobs for sg make some perceive he is totally against any foreigner . He replied clearly and well but he also could have responded with saying its the Extent that matters. To clarify, what i meant is he should lay out the fact that anyone can perceive anything or misperceive and this is not up to him. He should explain that he is saying the Extent of influx is too much and too fast creating an adverse effect on many singaporeans. So he is not wanting Zero Influx. He already said influx is needed. But its up to a certain EXTENT. Its just like everyday eat raw abalone also is bad for your health. This does not mean to have Zero abalone. So Mun Wai can easily rebut such allegations using the word EXTENT

How many singaporeans like to say "Bo Bian one"? This is a mind trick, self-psycho to give up confronting an issue. How so? When someone says Bo Bian, almost all the time its not really there is no solution but too afraid to confront the issue as they have surrendered. From this angle its Anti-Democracy because you just want to give up talking about the issue because you are too afraid to exercise your role as voter to make democracy work. Eg. COE: many deem there is nothing they can do. But this is a lie or untrue. They can speakup. This wont solve the oroblem but is a step towards a solution. Imagine, if there is an issue but everyone dont speak up , the problem is not raised and gets worse. Speaking up may not immediately solve the problem but its better than self censorship because the first step is taken. Many are not aware that this bad culture of Bo Bian is self-defeating and shows one has surrendered without any attempt to effect the democratic process. Its heading towards dictatorship mindset. What is a democracy when everyone say bo bian to everything instead of ensuring someone is held accountable for the issues they face relating to some policies? Democracy is not wating for permission to think. Its not telling people to leave the country if disagree. Democracy is either you vote For or Against to effect change you want. Else no one will change for you. Without courage to afford democracy, there is no democracy. So its not free. The onus is on the electorate. Is russia in essence and in spirit a democracy if everyone in russia is afraid of putin ?

Flaw in the Logic : "If you not happy with G, Leave SG" 1. In a real democracy, there is this entity called the electorate or Voters. Voting means you vote For or Against. Voting is not Leave SG if you unhappy. 2. One can disagree with policies and Vote to Change it. So, by virtue of Democracy, if Unhappy with G or Policy , a voter can simply vote to express his disapproval. Sufficient DisApproval WILL FORCE G to change, in most logical situations. 3. Only those whose brains or thinking is wrong will tell people in a nasty way to Leave SG if not happy. Who are you? A dictatorship mindset bigot

The way the questions were asked reveal something telling about the broadcasters. They asked if the outcomes of Japanese policies were good for Japan and therefore should be applied to Singapore... As if there is a silver bullet to all Singaporean problems. If there is no discussion, how do you know if a proposed solution will really benefit you? It is the standard, I don't want to try, I just want a blackbox that solve everything mentality... Standard lazy Singaporean thinking.
