Mr Lawrence Wong sits down with six journalists from the media and talks about his plans for Singapore as he prepares to be sworn in on Wednesday (May 15) as the country’s fourth Prime Minister. I am Malaysian who had worked in S'pore during my young days in the late 80's & early 90's. I like S'pore bcos it is a country with rules & laws that are enforced fairly. The citizens are law abiding . During my work life in S'pore, I feel safe even travelling at night by taxi after the midnight movie at the cinema. I wish to congratulate Mr Lawarence Wong being appointed as the 4th PM of S'pore. The handover of power as leaders of a country is smooth & secured. That's what I like a country to be . I too would like to see Malaysia to have leaders with a vision to see the people be equally given opportunity to excel in education without quota imposed & be given entrance to higher institution of learning be based on merit. I like S'pore bcos their education system is based on English as the medium of instruction, apart of having second language in mother tongue, eg. Mandarin, Tamil, Malay language etc. Congratulations Singapore for appointing a young & talented PM, Mr Lawrence Wong.

The younger generation like my children may not appreciate or understand that we need a stable family n nation to grow, progress n live or pursue a better life.

    Malaysia cannot compete with Singapore in any way, since local people still constrain Chinese people who was born and raised there and even though many children descendants there are super rich, but still considered to be the second class in politics, of course, so, Malaysia will never become a developed country in the foreseeable future, since discrimination in politics and other public sectors are everywhere in a visible or invisible way! Sigh!!!

Opposition still not up to standard, they are just very angry anti-government people riling up the people's emotions, but not providing any real organisation and solution to issues.

  • @r.a.h.175
    @r.a.h.1756 күн бұрын

    LW comes across as a nice person with a steady pair of hands. He is the product of an overall well-run Singapore. It is good to get a PM like him started at age 51 with the seniors around to advise him. He will need loads of advice on how to steer through the complexities and murkiness of especially global politics. He will then grow with it. One important home issue he must seriously address is the “revival” of the values of “family” as it should be. This is an urgent difficult problem. By and large the young are insular and self-absorbed in their careers. They are not interested in marriage and raising a family of their own as many consider that a hindrance to progress. The system has unknowingly neglected and downplayed the fundamentals of family life and living. Over-emphasis on economic growth has resulted in the whipping up of personal glory and chasing of pleasures. To put it bluntly, without babies and families, we are heading towards a dead end. High growth without appreciating “real” life is not success. This situation must be addressed with the seriousness that it deserves. Progress is a continuing process. But let us not lose sight on the meaning and purpose of existence. LW Sir, wish you all the best.

    "In many ways the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up that work and ourselves to our judgement. We thrive on negative criticism which is fun to write and read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the "new". The new world is often unkind to new talent, new creations. The new needs friends. Not everyone can become a great artist but a great artist can come from anywhere." ~ Anton Ego

    Not Singaporean but wasn’t that a response to Malaysia indicating they did not want to new the contract that entitles Singapore to draw from the johor(?) river on the mainland. Therefore the fresh water intake would be cut, they needed to fund and maintain more rain capture, desalination and water recycling plants? Also, was 2015 a time of uncertainty, it seems to me it was perfectly positioned between 2 crises, you couldn’t have a better time to deal with internal market issues.

    LW compares, saying the difference between Singapore orchestra and China orchestra, but without elaborating on the detail on the difference. Sometimes, if too conservative on speech, may make listener feel that was a brush off speech. I feel it is better not to compare the difference. Maybe we can say we have our own unique. At least, people will feel more truthful.

    My feedback to LW is that he should NOT rely on the existing method of leadership/governing of SGP..........as LHL & other senior politicians hv said, the present is so different from the past @ the period of LKY & GCT & even LHL rule. Just take a look at the disasters in GIC & TH.............of which I had been emailing the MPs, including LHL etc several times to no effect............& that SGP & sinkies are now paying the price like thousands of PREVENTABLE DEATHS, etc & losses of tens, if not hundreds of BILLIONS from our reserves. The forward SGP initiative, to me, is just another wayang.

    @@monkeybusiness2204 The REALTY is that if the conceited and arrogant LHL & his Ministers/civil servants had listened to me from the very beginning b4 such disasters as the epic mismanagement of the COVID-19 pandemic had manifested, there would NOT hv been thousands of PREVENTLE deaths, undue sufferings & hardships and also the tens if not hundreds of BILLIONS from our reserves. These are humongous COSTS the country & pple hv to pay..............not sure what is the value of YOUR feedback. Just to remind pple that I'd made written representation to the Select Committee on Bill10/86, the amendments of the Land Titles (Strata) Act was, in my view, the result of my complaints in my letter to the then Political Secretary to PM Lee Kuan Yew about the prima facie case of CORRUPTION and abuse of power in my MCST...........my suggestions in my written rep was implemented in drips and drapes over 30 yrs., but without any acknowledgment.

    Seeing perspectives from narrow personal views is tunnel vision. Singapore was in a very difficult situation being pressured by the mighty USA to do it's bidding and be a useful lapdog. Many decisions made had to take into considerations the effects of US pressures. Forgotten the wonderful visits by US dignitaries to this region during Covid days. Henry Kissinger once said... "To be an enemy of the US is dangerous, but to be a friend is fatal"

    @@allwinyay6085 Pls dun detract with use of terms like "tunnel vision" etc. The FACT is that MUCH could be achieved if policies had been better implemented. Take for eg what I considered & debunked the govt. White Paper on its epic mismanagement of the COVID-19 pandemic as I see it, which unfortunately has caused and is still causing undue sufferings/hardhsips & PREVENTABLE deaths necessitating INCREASED expenditure of health care. &/or the humongous losses, realised & paper losses of tens, if not hundreds of BILLIONS from the monumental/incompetent mismanagement of our reserves, which I've detailed REPEAPTEDLY. These hv NOTHING to do with "tunnel vision" nor whatever U wanna call it. Not only that, I'd warned in advance of such potential disasters long long time ago. That's tje REA;ITIES.

PM & Cabinet Ministers incl Lee Kuan Yew both as SM & Chairman of GIC NOT to invest S$14 BILLION in UBS MNCs. If not for me, GIC would not hv received the 18 months interest payment on the MNCs (= S$1.9 BILLION), if UBS had converted the MNCs into ordinary shares, which GIC finally so at about 65% LOSS.
