The ship in a bottle is easily one of the coolest sets lego has ever put out. I'd love to shake your hand and say thank you for designing something so awesome.. watching this video with my daughter has her mind made up about being a lego creator

Even when I was "retired" from Lego for almost a decade, Ship in a Bottle was just so unique and visually appealing, even more so than many other great sets, that I still might consider buying it sometime now that I'm back into it!

@@TiagoCatarino Of course! I would like to ask, when you were working at Lego, depending on the kind of set, about how far in advance would a set be discussed / conceptualized before the public would know about it?

WHOA you designed the Ship In A Bottle?! This is one of my all-time favourite sets. I built it while in the hospital after an accident. Thank you SO much for designing something that helped me through an incredibly rough time.
@TiagoCatarino

Glad I could help somehow :)
I would think the 3 in 1 sets would be alot more difficult than a set with a single configuration, takes alot of creativity to come up with 3 different build using the same small pool of pieces and have them be distinct and fun builds, that's alot things to take into consideration designing those.
THE MODULAR POOL SIDE IS ONE OF THE BEST AND FIRST LEGO SETS I BUILT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS SO DANG GOOD !!!!!!!!!!!! and very enjoyable!
The Gingerbread House is on my must buy list. The roof is outstanding and I love the touches of humour and playfulness in all your sets.

Thank you so much for your kind words! Hope you get your hands on one and then let me know what you thought of it!!
I like the small Christmas train a lot. Bought several of them to make one long one with different carriages and locomotives. It even had tanks to hold hot chocolate and a rack to hold different plows for in front of the locomotive. I put them all in an Adventskalender. The only thing it missed though were two extra connector pieces.
I have the gingerbread house, the ship in a bottle and the pug- all sooo amazing well done 👍

@@dr.pepper3658 "pitched the idea" lol. There's been talks about a Lego Titanic for as long as I can remember. Not to mention the countless amount of MOC's built of it. Yeah if I were him I wouldn't mention that either smh. Really groundbreaking concept with that one. Sounds like something he came up with on the way to work unprepared for a meeting.🤣 But the Ship In The Bottle is a next level set.👍 Love that we have a former Lego employee sharing company secrets with us online.🤘

I'm curious about the thought process for the water pieces in the ship in a bottle set. Any particular reason for 284?
@Hexqbe
2 жыл бұрын
I remember his comment in other video (Search "Lego Instruction Be Like") "When designing the Ship in a Bottle set, I decided on a round number of stud plates, 300. I was adviced by the packing team to adjust the quantity to 284 because of the counting machine who place the pieces in the bags. The extra 16 pieces were not that relevant, and if it made packaging easier, I just went with it."

Thanks for sharing that. It's fun to learn about all the little Easter eggs and reasons behind colour choices for element that you don't even see in the finished build! I'm looking forward to your last three sets. Please let us know which ones are yours as soon as they are officially announced/available. Were you able to completely finish them up while you were still at TLG, or was there one you had to hand over to another designer for the finishing touches because you ran out of time?

You're welcome! I believe they'll be out in January. I was able to completely finish them up, so they'll be 100% mine :)
The drum set in 10405 is so realistic, it makes me want to bust out my clarinet and play.
I LOVE the Gingerbread House, and I build it every year at Christmas. THANK YOU for such an amazing set. I especially love how candy designs were worked into every bit of the set!
I started my career with LEGO Brand Retail in 2016, so I remember seeing many of your 3-in-1's during my early days with the company. Ship in a Bottle was so popular at my store, same with the Gingerbread House. You made many guests happy with your work.
I love the gingerbread house. I've build this set together with my wife and kids (then 3 and 5) and it was a lot of fun. It was actually the first set I've build in many many years and It was so much fun discovering all the creative ways of building I was not familiar with. Last time I played with lego must have been early 90's, so a lot has changed since then.
I love the Ginger Bread House and the ship in the bottle set. They are some of my favorite sets that I have. The ginger bread house really helped make my winter village much better.
I absolutely love the Ship in a bottle. I got a long while ago and still remains as one of my favorite sets. I have it as a display piece in my home office!
I used to have the Mobile Stunt Show set a few years back, it was a great set and I wish I still had it. Thank you for all of the fun and joy you have given me, Tiago and the other designers!
I got back into Lego for the first time in 15 years this year. I got few sets that interested me and I'm currently starting to do MOCs. During this process I found your channel and have slowly going through your videos. I had no clue you designed the ship in a bottle! It was one of the sets that I bought earlier this year before I found your channel and was the last set i bought before I started doing MOCs. It was on of the main sets that inspired me to build my own creations! Thank you!
I really like that Tiago had in mind all the time what the fans would benefit from during designing.
So you're the mind behind these sets! The internet is really a magic place :) Some of these sets really caught my eye from the first time I saw them. That Christmas tree is so unique and original, yet very simple and elegant.
Ship in a Bottle was my first set as an adult builder, and still one of my all-time favorites. Thanks for reintroducing me to a wonderful hobby!
Great work Tiago and many thanks for sharing all of the details that went into the the design process and behind the scenes nuances :)

I love the ship in a bottle set. I've built it, tore it down, and rebuilt it several times now! Great build!!
Oh wow! I own 4 sets that you designed! The Gingerbread House, the Modular Poolside Holiday (my first Creator 3-in-1 in my collection), the Christmas Train polybag, and the Santa Creator polybag. I already have a few Christmas trees from different Christmas sets and the one in the Gingerbread House is my favorite!!! I even told my sister, “Whoever designed this Gingerbread House did an amazing job!” I love every detail and corner of that set, most especially the tree. 🎄 Thank you so much and congratulations!!! ❤️
The pug is one of the first sets I bought as an adult, after not buying any Lego since I was a kid, decades ago. It's still on my desk, super cute!
ship in a bottle was so fun, the one thing that I still find funny wad the instruction to pour a certain number of studs it was just amusing as if the idea that adding too many would be a problem. And the Gingerbread house was amazing! I'm still sad I had to sell it when I moved house.
My favorite building step ever is #59 of the 21313 Ship in a Bottle. Love it and still find it so humorous in the best of ways.
I have so many Lego sets, but some of yours are actually my favorite!!They work together so well to complete my Lego city. Great job on the Lego sets👍 I have the train, skate house, and the 3 in one F1 car and built the forklift. Amazing job!
My favourite set that you designed is the gingerbread house. I love the details you put into the house and the colours are amazing.
I have more than half of those (discounting the polybags) and they include two of my all time favourites - the ship in a bottle that is always of display at home and the gingerbread house that I put in a window every Christmas (well two Christmases so far) and which I plan to make part of a larger winter scene next year.
The modular skate is still one of my favourite sets, very cool designs and Easter eggs.
The pug is on constant display here. Between the Apollo Lander and Saturn V. It's just so awesome a design!

Right where it should be :D
I am a huge fan of the 3 in 1 creator polybags! My kids and I love them. We always buy three bags so the three of us can sit together and build each model. With bigger sets it's not really affordable for me to buy three sets so I am so so thankful for these polybags! Part of the joy of LEGO for me is creating together so these polybags are so important! Also... We loved your cute pug set so much. Each build is gorgeous and fun to build, superb work! I truly hope you feel proud of what you have achieved ❤️.
Lego should really release official videos like this! This video is so fun and informative!
I really like the 3-in-1 shuttle. It’s the only 3-in-1 set that I routinely disassemble and reassemble for fun. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing. This is actually really interesting to see the design process and behind the scenes of Lego sets.
The Ship in the Bottle is amazing. It is a set we missed out on due to when we started into getting serious about Lego, but one we really regret missing. Great work by you and the Idea designer, and like that you put the Portuguese flag in places.
i love the ship in bottle, but man i like the look of that prototype ship at 12:52 much better than the one that ended up in the set
These are great sets, when I first saw the ship in a bottle I was amazed! Tiago I want you to know you have a very awesome talent for creating sets and I admire your passion for lego!
The Turbo Track Racer is just amazing, the alternative builds are also really good and the main Build is just pure genius!!! :D

I built the gingerbread house with my family over the holidays. Such a fun build with tones of cool details. So cool to see the guy who designed it! Very masterful! Cheerse.
Thanks man I really enjoyed
On the gingerbread house I was very impressed by the whole set but also the baby gingerbread. That is so cool to use that element for the baby! I think you did a fantastic job on the set!!!
Most of these sets were on shelves when I started Lego, it's cool to see the stories of them.
The gingerbread house is one of my favourite Lego sets and it still got a special place in my Lego showcase Great work
I love the ship in a bottle set! I got it to work on during a beach trip, very fitting! It was a lot of fun, though I think I might have been missing a bag of water studs ... but no biggy, still looks great! It's still on my shelf, I think I have it next to my fishing store!
You have put in amazing work into your builds. Great work Tiago!
Was never able to get the gingerbread house, but always admired it!
I really want to build that gingerbread house one day. I got a small ginger bread house one year for Christmas when I bought another set. In the instructions it had showcased your model and I thought it was incredible. It must have been a wild ride engineering actual sets that are so iconic today.
I have some of the kits you were involved in, I was very happy with them. Great work! I really wish the LEGO Group would put the names of their designers forward more. We get a real sense of different designer styles, but it's quite rare for LEGO to attribute the efforts of their designers and design teams - more often than not, we're left to speculate who did what. Some of the LEGO engineers are genius artists and they deserve a lot more credit.
It's really great that you are always trying to sneak in some rare pieces and colors.
I got that train for Christmas when I was younger!
I loved this set so much
The Modular Skate House is a set I use to this day as a base for several of my favorite mini figures to hang out.
Oh awesome!! I have the ship in the bottle and it looks really great as a display! It's so realistic and I loved building it on the plane back home from the trip I got it on haha
Omg! I had the pug for years and it has always been my favourite polibag!

I’ve been tossing around the idea of grabbing the ship in a bottle set for a while just because of how great it looks. Kept telling myself no but after seeing that one of the lego youtubers I’m subscribed to designed it, it’s settled, I have to buy it. Thanks for the awesome video and all the great sets you designed while at Lego!
this was an awesome video would love a part 2 once the 3 sets that you worked on come out.
Thank you for your additions and input to Lego ! :D I have the Christmas train at 8:54. :)
I actually bought the pug and I remember buying it from a Toys-R-Us before they closed down! Glad to see you helped create it! I still have the little pug chilling in one of those lego cups you fill up with bricks from the lego store! I never got around to building the other models from the 3-in-1 though.
So of the sets you designed, I own two, the Polybag Christmas Train, and the Creator 3-in-1 Truck with the Shuttle. I think I used elements from the shuttle as well as my Ideas Saturn V and some City Space sets to build a MOC Minifig scale shuttle for a LEGO Display I participated in (the theme of that display was "Moments from History." This was before LEGO announced the Shuttle Discovery set. SEEing the Discovery was kind of humbling because I realized how much I could improve. My MOC was of a similar size, so it was neat to see how professional LEGO Designers tackled on the same problems I ran across (like the Cargo Bay doors).
That is so funny how this all aligned for me I just bought the gingerbread house for this coming Christmas and wanted to get it early and beat the holiday rush and find one of the designers of the set just as it is about to arrive is so cool
You designed some pretty cool looking sets Tiago!!
My mom bought the Gingerbread House Lego Set for my family to have as a Christmas decoration type thing, and by that point I had been subscribed to Tiago for around 2-4 months. When I found out that you designed it I literally freaked out!!! I AM STILL SO HAPPY LOL!!!

Ooo I actually loved the little space shuttle.
I love how the Creator turbo track racer is the modern equivalent of the Creator cool cruiser from 2011, all the way down to the width of the car and both of the alternative builds!
I had the skatehouse set when I was about to end my childhood and I had quite a lot of fun throughout the years
Dude, you did such a good job on the gingerbread house. It’s definantly my favourite out of all of the winter village sets
