I was thinking the same thing .

So far in the MCU, we've only seen tentacles coming through portals. We haven't seen a full-fledged tentacle monster. I'm guessing this is supposed to be whatever is on the other side of those portals.

Yeah, we saw those in the No Way Home, Guardians II and Doctor Strange sets. Though in movies we did see the Abilisk pink monster guy which is tentacle-ish.

My guess is that it’s Shuma Gorath with a different name due to copyright. However, it is definitely only some sort of avatar or smaller, weaker form due to how powerful Shuma Gorath actually is.

Not bad value, considering it's a licensed theme, and Lego are probably thinking 15 Buck$ for the minifigs alone. It does look like it's floating menacingly. The feet tentacles are so thin compared to its apparent mass, that they look like they're trailing on the ground rather than supporting its weight. Would look good in the NJC Planetary Defense mountain.

This set could be a good base for a custom Rathtar

Get two of this set and you're on a good way to build Great Old CTHULHU!

If it was a budget-contraint choice between the pride tile and another new print, I wish they would've reused the DOTS one and made a new sorcerer shield dish instead. The last one we got was in 2016 and not even that great, and we've gotten so many Doctor Strange and Wong figs that just use blank dishes or blast effects. It's time for a proper upgrade

That Gargantos is actually well built and quite playable with, I wouldn’t have thought from the few photos I saw. And that minifig selection is nice. Still not for me but I can see why some could enjoy this set.

The most exciting thing about this set, to me, is all those olive green pieces in one set. Unfortunately not the best price for a parts pack

Oh wow, as soon as you pointed out the textured glint on the pride pin I was like "Oh, just like the Super Mario stickers" and then exactly 5 seconds later you mention just that! They really ought to include that in a DOTS pack... I know Extra DOTS - Series 1 has a rainbow heart but that heart only has five colors, not the pride flag's six, and, well, it's a heart, not a circle, not that a heart is a bad thing it just isn't a circle. But yeah. You've probably seen my Brickset comment about the illegal technique so I don't need to repeat myself here.

Is the pride pin piece new for this set? Or did it originally come out in a DOTS set first?

There was a square rainbow tile with 5 colors but this is the first round rainbow tile and it has the 6 colors of the Pride flag.

Talk about a coincidence! I actually saw this set at a local Toys R Us 2 days ago, it looks quite weird, we don't get many tentacle monsters in Lego form, but I like it, and the movie will certainly be worth taking a look at as a well! Cool review, Jang!

The set name says 'Gargantos', but this doesn't look much like that character. A theory is that Marvel isn't allowed to use Shumagorath in the MCU for some reason, so they call it Gargantos.

I got around the eye-tentacle joint placement by moving the grey plates forwards a step and filling and dressing them with the sand-green and brown spares (plus a couple from my parts collection). It's still a sloppy mistake that they should have caught...

If you bring the ball connectors out one stud I assume they will no longer touch the curved edge. Does that make the model look strange? And what happens if you switch the grey ones for an alternative colour?

That new Wong look is great. The tentacles aren't too bad.

Just put a few eyes on the tentacles' end and behold! a beholder.

Is there a red version with a mouth instead of an eye coming? I'm talking about a Star Wars Rathtar if that wasn't clear.

Being a licensed set, i think it's decent, if it had been a SW set, they would have cut one of the minifig out and kept pricing the same. Non-lego question, is that a Team Losi 1:10 Stadium Truck sitting in the back?

ok that is uncanny, because I did a search to see if you had reviewed this set not even 8 hours ago! I needed smaller sets to get my VIP coins mailed out. I did end up buying it bc I need a monster for a MOC, and I think it will look great with some LED light in that eye. I have no interest in the rest of the set.

One could build an amazing watcher in the water from LotR from these parts!

Yeah, the design flaw in this set seems a bit off. Surprised that it hasn't been canceled like the mech sets.

It was originally named Shuma-Gotath and it's first appearance was in an adaptation of Kull the Conqueror published by Marvel comics in 1967. Kull the Conqueror these days is owned by Universal Studios so using that name in a several million dollar blockbuster definitely would've caught the eye (heh) of Universal's legal team

sometimes I really don't get it. Why is this the price of this set in $ equal to the one in € but the 60314 and 80032 are much more expenisve? I believe Lego dices the prices. Luckily I live in Germany.

I love this set so much, which sucks because it means I have to buy it and spend more money on lego. But when the designs are this good I think it’s fine.

A bit of a shame this isn’t Shuma Gorath, but I understand why it needed to change.

It's connected to the Conan mythos so using it in movies is probably more potential legal trouble than it's worth. Or they wanted a lesser monster that Strange can deal with, Shuma Gorath is kind of endgame material.

Shuma-Gorath first appears as an adversary for Doctor Strange in Marvel Premiere #10 (September 1973), created by writer Steve Englehart and artist Frank Brunner. The character's name is taken from Robert E Howard's short story "The Curse of the Golden Skull".

Just read into it, apparently it was a monster name used in a conan lovecraftian story before Marvel used it for doctor strange, so yeah technically they don’t own it so change happened

First impression- too little but the more you played witht he monster the more I like it. Figs look great.

That's a pretty serious error!

I see the progress bar in the instructions and I don't really like that. I thought it would be an exclusive thing to the Sonic set and I feel every set having it makes that incredible Sonic set feel a bit less special.

Not a fan of that version of Wong. Really doesn't capture the actor's likeness at all IMO.

i couldnt care less about doctor strange but i *do* want a little america chavez in a denim jacket with a pride pin - can they sell one seperately
