LEGO City Update - Arcade & CoinOp Machine MOCs 👾🏹

Ойын-сауық

I've always admired the LEGO Arcades of other builders so I've decided to do my own. Here I make six different coin operated machines: a shooter, a driver, a space game, a dinosaur game, a dancing stage and, my favourite, a pinball. Then I cap it off with a gumball machine, a graffiti artist and another massive 3D sign!

I'm a casual technician/handyman at an arcade here in Aus (Used to manage it full time before I started work in multimedia), so this video was especially fun to watch. I did a bunch of arcade machine mocs a few years ago, including claw machines, basket ball games, and duel shooting and driving cabinets, but they've all slowly been broken down as I needed the parts for my other mocs. It's great to see a pin-ball machine. We had to get rid of ours after the neighboring restaurants complained to Westfield about the noise pollution (Because the front of our store was very open too). I've been thinking about rebuilding my mocs for a while, but you've inspired me to possibly do it this weekend. Have you noticed that there's no staff member though? You probably don't need to bother, because they won't really be doing anything too interesting. Unless it's a sexy technician fixing a machine that's out of order, but that'd take up a bit of room. Thanks for the great vid. Great job, as usual :)

I fully intend to use these designs in my funfair arcade machine section! One point that I noticed though is the top lights on the dance machine should match the floor, so left should be red at the bottom, green on top, then right blue bottom and yellow on top so the player can see what dance move to do next! Slightly OCD i know...

An arcade is a great idea and definitely a classic in any LEGO city! I think you did really well on the arcade machines and I really like that you chose the classic space look for the pinball machine - really underlines the classic nature of both the theme and the machine! Such a great update, Rob! I’m going to try some of these for sure, they’re genius 🙌🏻 Couple of (hopefully) helpful suggestions: Maybe you could match the light colours either side of the dance game screen with the configuration on the platform? Maybe changing to a 1x1 pillar on jumper plates behind the gum ball machine could help us view that brilliant dinosaur game build better?

  • @bricksection

The dance machine should probably be moved to the opposite side of the arcade to the pin-ball machine too. Otherwise you'll get all the bloody dance regulars complaining about the noise throwing them off their game (I'm kidding. You'll never keep them happy unless the store is closed off to everyone else, and there's no other machines turned on).

Vibrant addition to the city RHB! I have one suggested upgrade and one addition. The spray paint cans should match the colors of the graffiti. Maybe magenta 1x1 round brick? It hit me when you started making the driving game, but at the arcades I go to all of them have this game which are really fun. Ok, but here’s the idea. So it’s basically the racing game but instead of a car it’s a motorcycle. And if you want to add this to the arcade then I have a tip for you, use an actual motorcycle on a stand and then have a screen in front.

Nice build Robin. It inspired mě to rebuild my arcade a little bit. I would onlx push the arcade two studs back, so it wont pop out in the street that much. The arcade machines look amazing.

If I push it back I'll have to lose the graffiti artist at the back. It will probably depend what I do with the space out front as the artist could go anywhere!

Nice one. At the back side you could add a bench facing the rail road. And perhaps an old broken out-of-operation machine. For the red race car simulator you should definitely add a decorated 1x4 red tile as the spoiler. There are plenty of different ones that would work great. Like part No. 2431pb202, 2431pb039, 2431pb122 etc. Also, I think the front of the building would actually look better with a white pillar in the middle instead of the red one. And perhaps some aircon on the roof to break the black surface a bit. BTW, when you mention the official LEGO sets with arcade machines, there are also the new LEGO Ninjago Avatar Arcade Pods: 71714 Kai, 71715 Jay, and 71716 Lloyd. Just for completeness and not that I think you should add them to your build.

Yes, those new arcades are fun but massive. It's an awesome suggestion to add a stickered 1x4 tile. I've added those and a load more to my wanted list so I can get one before long hopefully. Thanks!

Love the arcade building. You have created a perfect small selection of machines to really capture the feel. Looking at the racing machine. You might need to raise the wheels up with another 2x2 tile to lift them off the floor slightly. Also wouldn’t it be fun if you could rig the space invader onto a small track to move from side to side mechanically. 🤣🤣

I can't say it enough how awesome of a job you do on your builds! I really like the design of all the arcade games and I really love the 3D signs, they are sweet! I get alot of inspiration from you and I can definitely say my bricklink wanted lists has grown exponentially 😊. If you end up adding to the arcade or want to ever change it up lego did have a creator 3 n 1 set called Modular Skate House # 31081. It has a cool arcade build with also a race car game and a basket ball or skee-ball type of a game. The set does have a nice 2x2 printed tile that would go good with your race game as well. I looked up the part number on bricklink so you can take a look if you want, it is 3068bpb11414. My girlfriend likes watching your videos with me, she really loves castle rock as do I. Great job Robin!
