in Japan ppl got earlier than ytb poop era video of their own called kichiku videos. Some of them are on niconico, using weird sound and reversed music also screaming sound and reverse color image, frequent flashbangs just like Top Banana and with some old ladies being split into a chicken with 8 legs or something. Top Banana and weird kichiku video 100 percent understand ytb poop formula but take it beyond the max and goes too far

Top Banana...scares me. It looks very grotesque, and the sounds are terrifying. The sounds the items make when collected sound like some drunk guy was kidnapped, gagged, and forced to say "mmf" into the microphone while being half awake. Not only that, but the sound that plays when you get hit sounds like a demon yelling into a muffled micropho- WHAT EVEN IS THIS GAME?!?!?

Ok for Top Banana apparently according to wikipedia page the game was as an early example of environmentally aware computer gaming. It's fascinating how unintentionally disturbing Top Banana is. From the weirdly warped backgrounds to the strange moans and sounds to the Silent Hill-esque ominous music. I'm certain this was the first creepy pasta game.

I found the manual for top banana All about KT Introducing KT in her first game - Top Banana. As well as saving the world KT's Talents include singing and dancing in the video for her latest record 'Global Chaos', which is a re-mix of the Top Banana soundtrack. TOP BANANA Our planet is under threat - not from slimy aliens or evil wizards but from direct consequences of our own greed and stupidity. Every moment sees further demolition of the rainforest, more leaking nuclear waste, land floods caused by melting ice caps and much needed food rotting in locked warehouses. Your task is to combat those forces which are worlds tilts into oblivion you must redress the balance through positive action. To aid you in this task you are invested with a great power - that power is Love. Use this power to repell the agents of destruction. By spreading Love your enemies will vanish, or even begin to help you. You will be able to stem the tide of flood, neutralise the acid rain and release the hoarded fruits of the World's produce for all to share. If you succeed then you will have proved your skill and courage in the material world. Consequently, you will be offered the opportunity to seek ultimate wisdom in the Mind-Scape and achieve the status of Top Banana. Here you will be battling with the figments of your imagination, your dreams and nightmares, hidden fears and memories. This will be your greatest challenge. THE GAME Top Banana has four seperate Worlds each made up of three levels which become progressively more challenging. The aim is to achieve the status of Top Banana by completing all four worlds. There are many dangers, not only to you but to the environment itself. THE WORLDS Rain Forest The rich, dark Tropical rain forest provides you with your first challenge. Many of the skills you learn here will be essential to your later progress. As you get deeper into the forest, and nearer to the secret hoard, the humidity will rise and the undergrowth will thicken. Chainsaws and bulldozers have only one purpose - destruction. Love will be an effective weapon against them, but not against some of their nastier friends. If you want to get ahead get a head. Learn which fruits and nutritious and which are poisonous. The forest will not only be slow to point out the difference. Occasionally you will be offered a slap-up meal - make sure it's the one you ordered. Remember the whole forest is sinking as the water level of the planet rises. THE WORLDS Metal-City A manic Metal-City is a loveless place. It is swarming with mutated metal machines which patrol every street. Many sectors are flooded with polluted water. You can swim through them, but only for as long as you can hold your breath. The platforms are rotten and loose. You cannot assume that your next step will not be fatal. Nor are you immune to the blobs of radio-active waste which float through the narrow streets. Some of the lifts are operable but not reliable. THE WORLDS Temple Before you can go forward on the path to Enlightenment you must complete your final task in the Earthly domain. You have entered a decaying temple whose beautifully decorated interior is crumbling beneath your feet. Using the wisdom and skill you have so far displayed you must protect yourself and your surroundings from enemies more ruthless than any you will have yet encountered. You may enjoy watching American football even though the rules may seem strange. But in this game the rules are simple. They dont like you! Save your breath for the zones of burning well-heads. THE WORLDS Mind-Scape Dazed and confused in a purple haze, your mind spins in the psychedelic hip-house. By now you will have proved yourself a person of great courage, skill and determination. But the gaining of ultimate wisdom is the greatest prize and the psychesphere of Enlightenment will yield its treasures to only the most worthy Banana. Top Banana: Making Blazer nauseous, dizzy, and hurting her eyes since... whenever.

Here's my thoughts on what the Top Banana Worlds could represent. World 1: Rainforest. There's a background with bright-green leaf-like squares, theres even rainforest-like pictures all around, the ground looks like soil/mud, and theres bird noises, along with showery noises that make it sound like a wet location such as a rainforest. World 2: Mechanical. There's grey imagery everywhere, along with what I assume are purple pipes. Theres weird grey metal-things that look like they could be in a grey factory making up the floor (The anarchist symbols could represent individuality through graffiti). You also hear deep machine-like music with the occasional beep-ish sound. World 3: Arabic. Most of the world is yellow, the background is full of circles and old architectural/arabic designs, theres even actual old architectural/arabic buildings, the ground also shares the circle/architecture imagery but the colors are reversed to make it stand out I guess, and the music is clipping through meditation-like ambience with the occasional really weird arabic sound. World 4: Psychic. There's various abstract imagery and symbols, all the pink could be related to how many of organs look pink, the ground looks like toyblocks, which are related to "toylands", which originates from the subconscious, and the music sounds similar to heartbeat, with occasional weird sounds that I can't describe but would fit in a psychic kind of environment.

I think World 3 is meant to be vaguely Indian/Hinduistic. The game was inspired by some kind of weird environmental message and those New Age hippie types just love anything that's close to Indian religious aesthetics .

The rest of the Top Banana playthrough sounds like something you'd hear from Earthbound.

The last time I checked, that creepy laugh at the end of the _Top Banana_ section is apparently from the game's ending -- where you have a giant creepy clown face made of circles that laughs maniacally. So yeah... one of those rare occasions in a game where it's literally better to lose than it is to win.

The worlds of Top Banana World 1: A waterfall of vomit and flesh tree platforms, with zombies and possessed chainsaws everywhere World 2: A nuclear factory that got eaten by Cthulhu and then vomited out, then infested by even more eldritch horrors World 3: An ancient temple with frozen land and possessed bottle caps everywhere. LSD Dream Emulator's crappy PS1 graphics don't even compare to Top Banana. (Or maybe I'm just saying that because I've played it so much and I'm used to it idk)

That last game should be under Leave my Everything alone. Throughout that whole segment I was going "NO, NO! MY EYES! THIS IS HELL"!

Top Banana's sound effects consist of somebody flushing a toilet over and over again, while the person using it is groaning.

I'm convinced that Top Banana is the "Doki Doki Literature Club!" of the 90s. NOTHING will change that. If it isn't, well it's just a horror game in disguise I guess. The scariest part is that it wasn't pulled from shelves as soon as it arrived. It should've been pulled out of shelves BEFORE it even arrived. The thought that someone else had the thought of "Yeah! This is good! I'll publish this! Not disturbing at all!"

The developers were on NES Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with some Big Rigs mixed in.

It looks like Top Banana wasn't intended to have backgrounds in the first place. Evident in the second world, which is easily recognizable as one of Missingno's brothers; a glitch which shouldn't exist. 9:38 I would steal the axe and then threaten them with it. Maybe after that, I'd use it to destroy your copy of Top Banana so you wouldn't have to look at it anymore.

5:44 for this game you needed to make an entire new show called "Nightmare fuel". This is not only graphics, but sounds, enemies and psychological horror. Dread, jumbled backgrounds. Your main character is the only thing that looks good. It's like it's don't belong here. Title screen is much happier and everything, giving you DDLC vibe.This game is possesed, and you scared of _entity_ that doing this. But even scarier it becomes if you think of possibility, that this is how is _supposed to be._ What happened behind the curtians? What horrible things made people do and aprove this? You will never know.

For all of those questioning why Top Banana looks so weird and why the creators thought it'd be a good idea to put out: here's an explanation Oh, also, the readme of top banana actually promotes that you customize the graphics, and it was actually one of the first few games to let you fully customize the graphics. Nobody ever seemed to do it though. It's basically an art project done by a group of blokes who were fans of Techno and Rave Culture at the time, and also liked to do avant garde things, ranging though multiple mediums of "art". They took advantage of new and upcoming technologies, and the experiences they created are mostly based on visual feedback. A few people dropped out near the end of 90s, to which 2 of the members branched out and became a musical duo, where they preform under the name "Hexstatic" and as of writing this comment, they're still active. Apparently they also helped with creation of Pioneer's DVJ line of products. In general, they like to do freaky audio-visual experiences with visuals being the main focus, and audio just being something to compliment it. It's not for everyone, but you can search up their music and find a few videos by them. Really niche stuff but still interesting to those on the outside(like me!).

If you're so inclined, I think the battles from The Desolate Hope might make a good contender for an upcoming episode. They're a marvel of design and incredibly flashy and stylish, but they're so completely overloaded with shit that unless you played The Desolate Room, you would have absolutely zero clue at all how any of it works, and since it's an action RPG where the enemy is constantly active and attacking, you're bound to have your backside handed to you many a time.

In Whoisthisgit's Trick Room Max video, he mentioned the Underground Baseball elevator was a good contender for Leave My Eyes Alone, as the blue continuous background is very distracting whilst doing all the fighting. The music is also a good contender for Leave My Ears Alone, since it's this high pitched squealing that keeps repeating & going higher in pitch. It's not as bad as the Baldy Jet music from Streets of Rage 3, where, to quote Whoisthisgit, "sounds like mice arguing about politics"

I can think of a lot of games that used the endless loop backgrounds:Zoop, Rocko's Modern Life, some of the Ren and Stimpy games, and if I'm not mistaking, Super Mario Bros 3 occasionally did it. A very annoying trend for games back in the day!

I had a glitch on my Earthbound file where Ness’s Pk Rockin’ would show it’s animation for way longer than it was supposed to. It hurts when you look at it for too long.
