The Rebar is my favorite. I'm a bit old school, in that I like the PST lineage up to the Super Tool 300. I also love the Core. That fact that you have to open it to access the blade is fine with me. It may not be "tacticool," but I don't mind taking the extra couple of seconds opening the tool. For a robust yet lightweight multitool, it can't be beat in my opinion.

Awesome review. I love the Rebar, for a small package it's hell of a traditional multi tool. Reminds me a lot of the Blast without the scissors. I'm not really a fan of the newer Free series, Rebar is literally half the price of a Free and can get the job done.

I've also added scissors. And it is comfortable, ight and slim, and I got it for $48. What a great multi-tool. Great video and points as always. Thanks, Ben.

@@txtoolcrib The Wave scissors fit and lock perfectly, hence the Bladeless Rebar, which has Wave scissors. You mess around with the set-up which works best for you. The scissors are the same thickness as the awl and large flathead. I removed the large flathead. Interestingly, you can just remove the lanyard ring, and re-arranging the implements, you can fit the scissors in. One handle will have scissors and Phillips, and the can opener that was next to the Phillips can go in the other handle. People have made all sorts of changes to the Rebar, like replacing the Phillips with the bit driver. Also, you can buy little wrenches that fit the Rebar's screws (and any other LM with those screws) which makes it ridiculously easy to mod. I've rambled long enough, so if you are interested in the wrenches and Rebar mods, you can just go to the multitool forum and check those out.

The Rebar is my personal favourite Leatherman tool - I have two of them and use them a lot. For me, it has the best compactness/utility ratio - it's robust enough to get the job done, but not too heavy to carry. My only major complaint is the serrated blade, which I never use. But all multitools are a compromise - if you want the perfect tool set, get a toolbox and fill it with tools!

I think the individual tools on the Rebar - and Bond for that matter which includes the same tools minus the saw and serrated blade, as well as having a different pliers head - are way better than those on the Free series. The flat Phillips driver and 1 inch long file on the Free series are just the ones from the budget Leathermans (i.e. Rev, Wingman, Sidekick) and are not really fit for purpose except in a pinch, and the one inch ruler is just a filler as I can't see it being much use. The Free series are classed and priced as premium tools. I can only assume that their popularity is down to the fidget factor, being able to open them like a Balisong. I can open both my Bond and Rebar to get to the pliers with one hand if I need to, it just takes a couple of seconds. Regarding the pocket clip I agree that there should be one, or the option to attach one, on the Rebar. I have one on my Bond although I had to purchase it separately. One solution which I think would work is sticking a Nite Ize HipClip on it. I've done this on a Victorinox Alox knife and it holds up no problem on the dimpled surface, so it would work no problem on a Rebar.

Great review. The rebar was my first good multitool. My first ever multitool was a $10 ozark trail that I carried every day and got quite a bit of use out of considering how cheap it was. Then I was given the Rebar as a Christmas gift and realized what I had had been missing. I used it at least a dozen times a day. I just upgraded to a Surge because I work in construction and wanted the heavier duty tool but I'm still wearing the Rebar away from work because of it's smaller size. Great multitool.

I was a die hard wave fan for many years, but after using the rebar at work a few times, I ended up giving the Wave to my girlfriend to keep in her car and I've had the rebar ever since. 😂

The rebar was my first leatherman, and actually my only one to date. It was, in my opinion, the best compromise of tools. I usually carry a victorinox nail clip, so I have a (small) pair of scissors on that if I really need them. I do with that it had a pocket clip, and I actually needed the pliers to open wider once on a road trip. Luckily I also had a gerber center drive with me. Overall though, I like the rebar better.

This was my first leatherman bought it back in 2017. Just recently retired it and got a wave, cause I want the bit kit and scissors. But let me tell you I’ve popped open some serious cans of paint and lacquer thinner with that larger flat head. I’ve also have pulled out three inches nails with these pliers. This multitool I have no complaints about it. It handled everything I threw at it with reason of course.

Excellent review. I like the Rebar a lot-for all the reasons you've noted.. One of the problems for me though, is that if you grip the tool hard while using an internal tool, you can depress the lock and the tool will fold. The ST300 has the same problem. I have fashioned a safety clip to prevent that from happening, but I wish LM would rethink the lock for this one. Like you say, the pliers, file, saw, awl and 3D Phillips are top notch. For smaller kits and so on, the Rebar is the one.

One perhaps minor point about all the tools being inside on the Rebar: when hiking around in my dusty, arid country, the closed Rebar in a belt sheath stays cleaner. My Surge just seems to get more dirt-clogged than the Rebar. Or Supertool 300. The Rebar is about the smallest good, light duty bushcrafting multitool I know. Perfect toss in the shoulder bag weight. Or pocket. I'd absolutely love to see a bushcrafter dedicated Rebar style tool. Don't need the drivers, so maybe another small blade, and a chisel. A small higher level steel blade for knots and hardwood. Fantasy. Great as it is. Love the size. Cheers!

I love my rebar. I’d rather not have scissors as I’d never use them for my edc. The lack of pocket clip doesn’t effect me either as I prefer carrying mine in the leather pouch it came with. My biggest issue with the tool is the grade of steel they use in construction. It’s quite brittle and the tools are more prone to snapping off rather than getting a slight bend.

As a reaction to 18:49 I have to say that the extender actually fits in the adapter, so technically you can combine both of these accessories together. However, as the bits themselves rattle a bit in the extender, the extender rattles a bit in the adapter and even the adapter itself rattles very slightly on the phillips driver, the overall stability of such device is not great. That being sad, if you desperately need a long reach, then while sacrificing a stability, you get a reach that is hard to match. Excelent review btw!

Rebar is definitely superior, but man I love the one handed opening on the MP and it gets me by on the days I need it. Think the Rebar will be daily carry and MP will stay in the truck glove box for when needed.

But boy, they come with a healthy price tag considering what they are. I try to approach each review with an open mind and judge each tool on it's capabilities and value. I'll be honest though, I have been really turned off by this new magnetic architecture. I thought the T-series could have really been good had they not slapped a bunch of mid grade implements in them. The K-series is going to have much of the same, but it is going to have a pretty substantial knife from what I can tell. It is going to be a bit longer than the Crater knife, and from the pictures I have seen, I really like the blade shape. To answer your question, yes, when they are released I will probably pick up the K2 and K4 to review them.

My friend gone the other way. Stick to the Wave and get a Victorinox for the awl. Thats wrong thought for me. You can Always find a scissor for EDC for almost nothing but you dont find awls very often for almost no costs. But for me I found the few downsides not to my liking. I did love that it was so strong and capable for the price point. I certainly abused that tool and it never flinched. As far as awls go for multitools, I think that since leatherman has the double sided microdrivers that push into a holder they could design something like the speedy stitcher has for a sewing awl and integrate that into the multitools. I feel like that should be the next evolution.

I love the size of the Rebar. Like you said, sized like the PST, but with great refinements. I have been seriously considering the Knifeless Rebar. I carry a single blade liner lock knife all the time anyway. The Knifeless Rebar comes with scissors instead of both knife blades. I'll take scissors over a serrated blade any day. IMO, they could have kept the regular knife blade and called the tool by another name. The only shortcoming on the Knifeless Rebar is it's lack of a diamond file. I have EDC'd the Pulse for 14 years, love the diamond file, never a moment's trouble. It would be better with a saw instead of the can opener. It also is lacking the wire stripper. One can strip wires with a regular or serrated blade....tedious, but can be done. The can opener, IMO, is overrated. There are many ways to open a can in the field that don't require a tool slot in my multitool. Thanks for your as always detailed review..........

My Rebar has small tools in different order than I see in this video. Counting from the main (straight) blade, I have the awl, small flat-head, larger flat-head, the lanyard ring, and finally the file. I bought my Rebar this April 2021. Is the order changing by the production years or are the three small tools assembled in random order? Just curious. edit: Gideon’s tactical channel reviews a Rebar from 2013 and it had three slightly different sizes of flat head screw drivers and did not have the awl. A history of the Rebar would make an interesting topic.

I got my Rebar for $48, and it was a steal, considering the $70 it goes for now. If the price is going to be that much more, then make it a premium tool. The $70 would be justified perfectly if the Rebar was updated with -pocket-clip. Perfect size and weight, and clean frame. Great for pocket carry. -diamond file. Why not put it in more tools? -jigsaw holder. Would be a great handle for those, better than the Surge. -Wingman package opener. Same thickness as the Rebar's lanyard ring, but much more useful. -Wave scissors. Not the best, but very capable, and the fit perfectly. Ditch the large flathead. -ferro rod. Attach it like the C4 punch on the ST300 EOD. There could even be a fat Rebar, just a little thicker, to have all current tools, in addition to scissors, t-shank holder etc. Also, why not turn the handles inside-out, so the implements open from the outside, like Bear & Son multi-tools? The Free series almost did that, but messed up many aspects of that design. Anyway, lots of potential for the Rebar. It's just sweet.

Rewatching this one. It’s a phenomenal review. Definitely one for your “greatest hits”. There’s only one little thing, why a “B grade” ? -No outside accessible or one handed tools - no scissors - no pocket clip Other than those limitations, I find not fault with the Rebar, especially considering it’s price point & weight. As far as all multitools are concerned, I’d give it a very low A. Just food for thought. Thanks for all the reviews & hope your family, friends and all in your cuticle are doing well!

TX Tool Crib I didn’t mean that to sound overly critical. Tone of voice is sometimes tough to reflect here. You know I’m a fan lol. As far as the Rebar, paired with the K4 and adding a the Removable Bit Driver plus an Olight i3t - all combines to make a great EDC load out. If one handed blade action is needed, I simply use the K4. My only criticism of this combo is the K4 needs a blade steel upgrade. Side note: even though I like the tools in the Surge the best, the fidget factor in the P4, the all around greatness of the Wave, the utilitarian value of the Skeletool & Freestyle and of course the trIed & true worth of the ST 300 - I still end up back with the Rebar. Weight/size and tool selection win out for me. All in all, the Rebar, ounce for ounce, is the best Leatherman to me.

Actually, in the United States law, cops do measure from tip to pivot. In my area in Michigan, they do take knives away and have heard multiple people who got arrested and on probation, because of a knife just over the 3 inch, from tip to where the knife would stop, at the scales and or pivot. I was pulled over the other day and my Victorinox knife was in my sheath. They said that they are breaking down on 1 hand opening blades as well. My Victorinox knives are the only multi tool and knives that fit in this. This is ridiculous, but I don't want any trouble with the law, so I am thinking about picking this up. I am considering a no knife multi tool as well. I hate cops for this reason. I am glad that the cop that pulled me over said that if I had any knives like that on me, that he wouldn't take them away or arrest me, and he is warning people, before arrests start to happen more frequently. I am curious if this is happening in other cities.

I use the knifeless Rebar with scissors in combination with a larger pocket knife. Perfect combination for me. The Rebar is the best Leatherman multitool for EDC, the Super Tool 300 is the best Leatherman heavy-duty multitool. Actually, the Rebar is much better than the Wave (Plus) and any other Wave-like toy (the Charge series). Actually, the Wave (Plus) is nowhere near a good multitool. The Wave (Plus) has practically unusable medium size flat screwdriver and fake Phillips screwdriver, since their bitholder is too wide and too short. The Rebar, on the other hand, has the real 3D Phillips screwdriver and good flathead screwdrivers. The Wave's scissors only take space - generally, scissors rather belong in a manicure than in a multitool because they can easily be substituted by knife or pincers in most cases. The ruler on the Wave is practically illegible, whereas on the Rebar it's really good. The pliers'jaws are wider and better to use in the Rebar, while the needle nose crap in the Wave is unstable and too narrow. In general, the Rebar is much steadier and more efficient. I also highly appreciate the Rebar's awl, which is completely missing in the Wave. The Wave is more fashionable than usable.

That was my thinking, those flat proprietory bits are not fit for purpose, especially the Phillips which doesn't ''bite'' deep enough; I've heard that the steel they make them from is soft; and finally the bitset is exhorbitantly priced for what it is, it's priced as if it were made in the USA but it's Chinese made. If I want a bit driver on a multitool I want to be able to use standard 1/4 inch bits as I then have a choice and can use high quality bits. On the other end of the scale you have the Rev, Sidekick, Wingman with their one inch long unusable files, and the flat 2D Phillips. This is all fine and dandy on those 3 as they are budget multitools and accordingly priced lower. But the Free series which is premium priced has the same crappy tools!
