I like to use the golf club analogy - each club has a different purpose. So do each of my amps. And each of my guitars, for that matter. They all sound different. Or use the painter analogy - they are all different colors - would you ask an artist to paint with only 3 colors?

I used to have the first generation Laney Cub 10. That was a good little amp. Can’t wait to try this one. The Les Paul into the 1x12 sounds killer.
Decently priced, good sounding, great looking. Seems like a winning lineup.
I bought Super Top a month ago and I can say it sounds awesome! I'm using it for home practice and recording with Torpedo Capture. And it's amazing pedal platform too.

Gigging with a super top today, I’ve had loads of amp heads going into the 4 figure prices. I have to say, this is fantastic at any price.
I had a cub12r and bloody hell it sounded good man. 1watt input was great for low volume jamming and could still do small gigs with. I never used the 15watt input but it was a BLUES JR KILLER! Straight up word to you mum
"Not downhill with the wind at its back 15 watts" Aye aye there my cap'n. Brought me to tears😂😋
Appreciate the room mic perspective. 🤘🏻
Laney finalyy nails the looks of their amps since ... honestly i would buy the cub for the looks alone ... what a wonderful amp that is
Great playing by Lee in the outro
Great sounding amps, i have the old Laney 15 /1 Cub Head, so many Tone's in there, great also on 15 watt with Volume turned down and Gain set to taste, hats off to Laney !
I have the original Cub 15 head and love it immensely. Sounds epic through a 4x12. Would love to try the Super Top.
Bjorn " Gilmourish " is a huge Laney fan. He always gets nice David Gilmour-esque tones out of them. They sound fantastic.
Love the videos with Rob. Helps keep the videos feel less like a shopping channel and more like two blokes genuinely excited about gear, much more enjoyable to watch when you don't actually want to buy the stuff being shown

Nothing makes my day like a new Rob and the Captain video.
I used to have the Cub12r (the previous 15W 12 inch one) and it was awesome, especially when replacing the stock speaker which in that one was admittedly quite crappy. Always surprised me that they were never taken into consideration in comparison videos between low wattage tube amps - being able to switch between

You exchanged the stock speaker with which one?
Fantastic mix on this video. Guitar to voice levels are 👍
I have one of the previous Cub 12s. Put a 10 band EQ through the effects loop to alter the sound, then have all other effects into the front of the amp. Works a treat.
@TangoNevada
3 ай бұрын
Ideally time based effects like Reverb, Delay, Chorus etc. Sound much better through the loop. Distortion, Overdrives and Wah Wah's sound better into the front. IE: Reverb sound much better added to an overdriven tone, than overdriving a reverberated tone.
Lee!!!! Great playing on the outro.. some of your best work yet i think.
Sounds great & I like the 1w input.
One of the best outro solos over that Boss pedal :) Didn't see that coming!
Great amps. I have 2 x LC15s from the 90s, run in stereo. Still going strong. Back then the speakers were not great so one has a Celestion, the other a Ramrod. The speakers on the Cubs sound better but of course it’s hard to tell through the Tube. Sticking a Guv’nor in front of them works very well.
I go away then I come back to chapters and the captn. Unbeatable demos. SOLD!
Been so excited for this video. As soon as I saw these announced at Namm. Honestly guys, I’ve tried ‘em all: Fender, Marshall, Vox, Orange etc. In my humble opinion, Laney are the best amps I’ve ever played and they’re British too! Again only my opinion.

I've had a Laney IRT Studio 15 with a Laney 1x12 HH cab for a couple of years now. It's my 'British' sounding amp to contrast with my Fender BB15, although the BB15 to be fair does have a little 'Britsh'ness in it too, I guess. Laney certainly do know how to make a small valve amp sound really good.

Lee, your outro solo is amazing!
I have a cub 15 head. Love it. I run it with a 1x12 cab loaded with a celestion V30. Manage to get a slight clean break up that's loud enough to gig with (pubs etc) but we still mic it up just incase. For bigger venues I run it with a 2x12. Great recording amp also.

Would love to see a comparison between the Cub Super 12 combo and a Fender Blues Junior.

Super cabs are the schiz, definitely must buy, fab range
At those volumes, this sounds surrealy good to me. That would sit perfect in the livingroom noxt to my pedalboard. GAS is trying to strike back.
hey are you guys going to review the laney mini stack amps? They are tough to find in-person in the states. I have one of the earlier mini lionheart sts and am pretty impressed with it (for low volume playing).
Hi there amazing video, what 4x12 options would you consider for using that Laney amp head ??
I have had my eye on a Vox AC10 or even an AC4 for a while, but I am thinking the Laney Super-Cub looks like a better option. Love that it has an effects loop.
Dang that amp head's got some delicious tone.
I've got the old cub head. Took it into the recording studio a few months ago with Zu Zu Petals and was getting told to turn it down. In 1w mode. Which was a shame because it sounds epic when it has the power stage cranked and protesting. 15w is loud enough to upset a drummer but the power stage is not clean if you crank it loud. The not quite cleans are good to. I have mine all over the Rowena Straylight single. I think I used it for the bass as well with some creative EQ and blending in a very clean red-knob fender head for the low end. Didn't do so well for modern distortion, and it's a bit hit and miss with pedals. Good with a soul food, a crayon or ed the compressor. Tends to compress a bit much for my big delays even using the FX loop, and a bigger cleaner amp is better with more distortion oriented pedals like a DS1, dod grunge or a bigmuff. Tempted by the newer cub. But I kinda want a slightly bigger one. I think if I could find one doing 30 or 40w it could be perfect, perhaps switchable between full power, half power and 1w, but I've always got an attenuator if I need it.
@rowlandstraylight

@Dave N it's a bit of a price jump but yeah. Also looking at ironhearts. The high gain channel on both goes a lot further than than but there's nothing to stop me using it like a single channel if it's right. Either would replace my blackstar HT40 combo which is ok but combos suck when there's a cab already mic'd on stage, and I'm finding the EQ on the blackstar a bit limited, especially on the clean channel.
Laney had their first workshop in my home town. Lots of local bands used them and I have bought a couple myself in the distant past. Good value kit. I like these new ones but they don't seem much different to the outgoing models.
@StillLivinginthewoods
3 жыл бұрын
The built in boost seems to be the main upgrade.
That head is sharp as hell.
I have an old Cub 10. Great sound but it puts out a buzzy, beady kind of sound that's loud enough to get picked up when recording. Do these newer models do that?
Very happy to see rob using that music man for the demo. It’s a guitar that we all know the sound of, but it’s still something interesting and unique
Ok...if one had to choose between this amp and the Marshall Origin 20H...which one are you choosing?
Wow Lee gotta be your best jam ever!
Which is better, this super laney or the Blues Júnior? Is Dsl20cr interesting too? It is to be used as a pedal platform. Can you handle rehearsals and small shows?
Great sound!
Wondered if people from Anderton's could advise: I'm a big Laney fan and would be interested in a small low wattage amp, but does the 10 watter have decent clean headroom or does it break up at about 9 o'clock? Does the 12 have better clean headroom than the 10 in your opinion?
@mattgilbert7347
2 жыл бұрын
Yes. 12 has a fair amount more headroom
I'm looking for my first tube amp for home use. Does it take pedals/multi effects good ?
This is bang on Laney.
A very good English Company with some great pedigree.
I've got the old cub head and some jack plugs won't switch the input jack sockets properly. You have to put a dummy jack plug in the unused socket to force the switchover.
Anyone else feel like Rob and Lee's demeanor in these vids is reminiscent of a marriage which has got to the 'going through the motions' stage? You guys need to shake it up with some crazy shit (Miku/Rock v Blues/Rig your mate will hate...) and rekindle the romance that brought us here.
Compared to the Cub 12R (15W), is there much of a difference ? 12R better or worse ? I like my Cub 12R but the Laney speaker is to ice picky to my ears. Any suggestions ? Blues On....💙

I'm really loving my Super12 so far. For bedroom volume I prefer using the 15W input and working the volume control, because I find it sounds better and feels better under the fingers compared to the 1W input. You can still can just as quiet this way. The head wasn't available at the time but I am still interested in testing out what a Creamback would sound like in it.

Laney cub10 with ES335 mods (look it up) is one of the best sounding amps ever. Easily giga le too. But I think they discontinued the original cub10
About the 1 wqtt issue, people tend to forget thqt speakers are measured in 1watt rms so tou can see how loud is 1 watt on any speaker in manufacturer's specs. In the cub its around 0.75w . Also , a real usable attenutaion should be betwen 0.01 and 0.1w (x10 factor)
I always like to hear Lee go outside of his normal pentatonic blues riffs and do something a little bit different.
you need to check out the Bugera 1960 Infinium head. Claimed to be 150 watts will take any tube auto-bias. its based on a late 60's plexi superlead with the bright cap. my bandmates like it more than my Friedman BE100 Deluxe. I won't tell you what I paid for the Friedman but the Bugera was $549 shipped overnight. the amp has stunning clean tones and classic plexi roar with awesome highs and mids. its a plexi its amazing. maybe check it out it might kill most of the boutique amps you guys sell. It has a PPIMV as well so you can get low volume crunch sounds its amazing.
Glad to see good ole Chappers!

So good to see chappers back
How would those amps sound like with an sg?
Do these have a headphones input?
The classic intro riffs always set the tone lmao
All I have to say is I scored a previous generation Laney Cub 10 at a thrift store recently. $150 for a full tube class A/B amp is nuts to me. Whoever donated it really had no idea what they had.
HH Electronics has been owned by Laney since the 1990's. My first bass amp head was a 100w HH unit which I got after my old Laney 30w combo proved to be insufficient for keeping up with a drummer (but then again so did his drum kit). It also seems that Rob has discovered the ultimate lazy rythm guitar players pedal.
Guys, I love this outro jam. Can you please produce and publish this?
How do you change the tubes on the super cub 12 ??
