Probably the best amp demo ever on the entire internet. To the point, no stupid talking, trying humbucker and a single coil guitar, showing what the guitarist is actually adjusting on the amp. I wish every demo be like this

Thank you!!! For properly demoing. He plays the same riff while showing the least, middle and most of each knob giving a clear bench mark sound for each feature. As opposed to many demoers who noodle and talk at the same time while showing none of the settings! Bravo!

I plugged in my Laney VC-30 and turned the volume too 7 with gain at 6 and it was the best amp tone ive ever had with any of my tube amps ! The best natural breakup with dynamic range was nirvana , slapping chords and hear the great breakup then clean right up for awesome tones ! Its a shame its too loud in my home , i use a 5watt BadCat cougar w/vintage 30 speaker at home now but i will never sell the Laney !

I reached out to Laney recently regarding them making a 30 watt version. I really hope they do cause that would be such a nice pedal platform for gigging.

It's wild to me that people spend thousands on amps that don't sound at all better than this. There's nothing really "expensive" about "good" guitar tone. Even a lot of SS amps will get you similar vibes. You just need some designers who understand what they're dong.

@@daaneshsharma57 Honestly for primarily home use, stuff like the Yamaha THR and Vox Adio if you can find one are probably about the best. Some people like the Spark but many find the speakers muddy. Katana(pref. the 100 - better speaker). If you're looking for decent non modeler SS amps - The Orange stuff is probably the best bet, the Crush Pro or Super Crush. Laney makes their own decent SS amps with the LX65 for example. Vox Pathfinder 15R(ideally with a speaker swap). The old SS Randalls. Pretty much any bigger SS Peavey - the bandit can be a bit heavy for an SS amp though, I'd recommend the studio pro. Also go for Red Stripe or silver face if you can, modern ones are a bit fizzier. Marshall Lead 12. Yamaha G50-112. Older Roland Cube, or Blues Cube.

I’m looking at small valve amps for home use, comparing the Marshall DSL5cr, the Harley Benton Tube 15 and the Vox AC10 - but I keep coming back to this review. My first amp was a little 8w Laney solid state practice amp, 43 years ago. It wasn’t great, but it got me started, and as my next amp will probably be the last I ever buy, I like the idea of closing the circle back with a Laney.

  • @TangoNevada

If you're looking for cleaner more Fender like tones go with the Laney for home use, either the Cub 10 or use the Cub 12 with the .1 watt input or the 15 watt input if playing with others. 15 Watts from the Cub 12 is pretty loud. I have used the Cub 10 and the Clean and overdriven tones are great (No built in reverb, but has an effects loop - So a cheap reverb pedal will solve that). Not great for harder rock or metal. If that's your goal I would lean towards the Marshall DSL5CR. That would be great for home use with a .5 Watt switch. The Cub 10 has no Low wattage switch. It's 5 Watts. Which is plenty loud for home use. Hope that helps. What are you looking to play in terms of style/tone?

Now I’m torn between this Cub 12 and the Blues Jr IV. Also, do you know if this one is actually made in Britain or do they source this model out to 1 of the 10 asian companies everyone used now?

@@hereticlife2546 The Blue's Jr has no effects loop. The base models have a crappy particle board cabinet . It's not a bad amp if you do the upgrades, but when you add up all you've put into it, you might as well have bought the Vox. I don't know if an effects loop is an important feature to you. I would imagine the Laney is made in China. If you change out one of the Laney 12AX7 preamp tubes to a low gain, you will get much more clean headroom out of it. Both amps in base model form have particle board cabinets. The Laney has more features. The Blue's Jr does take pedals really well. In my honest opinion though, too many pedals run through the front of the amp kills the tone.

I am really bummed they neglected the 6V6GT circuit option like the original Laney Cub 10 had compared to the EL84 circuit to that of the Cub 12R, and the Cub Head respectively. The new super line looks like a nice refresh. However, they shot they’re self in the foot by not having a variety of circuit options. Such a shame too. for clean jazz tone the legend L 1218 is the best I have tried so far in it. . I have tried so many speakers in this great amp, modern and originals. A 16 ohmed G12T75 modern takes out the low mids so makes it sound very sparkly and fendery- good if you want to. A vintage V30 that had a dense steely tone- good for slide guitar. Greenbacks sound very woody, but are not my top choice. G1265- similar to the stock HH 1265 in many ways, very nice. The best was an EVM12L, original, in a thiele cab. And the best overall was an Eminence 16 ohm Lady Luck- unbelievable speaker. So good it make me email Eminence to ask for similar contemporary speakers of them (lady lauck is an OEM Emily speaker) and they informed me that their currently produced equivalents are the CV 75/ 65, Reignmaker, Governor and Legend L1275. From Celestions for this amp I recommend: Alnico blue, gold, cream, ruby. G12H anniversary- not the Heritage. Any Creamback, especially the H75. V type first, A type second. G1265/ T75. 70-80/ G12P80. From Eminence those I mentioned first plus the GA SC64 plus many others. From Jensen C12N, K2, P12. This amp packs a lot of punchiness, boominess and low mids due to circuit design and small enclosure so you may need to compensate for that with the speaker choices. It is a GREAT amp, totally recommended.

No it is not the same. It has different valves (Hand selected Ruby Tubes) and a different speaker (12" HH Custom speaker), How the f..k is that the same?

Such a shame. So my choices in this form factor vis chimey and indie-type sounds are Blues Junior or Blues Junior.

@@alittlebitoflight the Cub has 3 preamp valves, it provides plenty of drive even at 2-3 Gain (similar to what you would get at 4-5-6 gain on a "cleaner" amp). However, if you crank the power amp (volume), which the guy in the video did not do, and turn the gain even lower (maybe around 1?), you should get a very nice clean tone. in terms of headroom, that's more about the power section, I would not expect the amp to fall out of line compared to other dual el84 amps. worth noting that if you want clean, the boost should be off since that's pretty much an overdrive pedal that adds lots of extra drive and compression. unlike most "budget" tube amps that have plenty of solid state components in the signal path, like Marshall's DSLs or Blackstar (on lower end Blackstars where most of the tone comes from the solid state parts), at least Laney is transparent about the design and you can turn the silicone clipping off.

Is there a better amp that's low wattage, for clean tones? I can't find much at a decent price. I like this one for the warm overdrive, but I need good cleans for when I play jazz.

'Boutique amp' vs 'budget amp'. I wouldn't be surprised if this is a tweaked Monoprice/Harley Benton Tube15, same circuit and components (except for the speaker), but at double the price. The back panel connections are identical too. This doesn't even have a spring reverb, it has a digital one. They changed the 1-15 Watt attenuator, split it into 2 inputs instead of a switch, and added the 'boost' function. You can buy one hell of a boost pedal for half of the money that this amp costs. LOL.
