Sad story: Less than 2 weeks before he died, Owen Hart wrestled Kurt Angle in a dark match. Once they finished, Owen came back to the locker room, and raved about Angle, and his aptitude for the business. Owen told the boys backstage that Angle was going to be a star. Angle and Owen agreed that they would love to work a program together.

I would’ve loved to see Kurt Angle, American Olympic Hero against Bret Hart of 1997 Hart Foundation go down anywhere in Canada. The first wrestling toy I bought with my own money was Benoit's Wrestlemania edition action figure that came with the Big Gold belt and he was wearing the blue pants with 3 stripes. At my Grandparents house they had a trampoline with the net around it so me, my brothers, and friends would wrestle all the time. My brothers hated when I would put them in the crossface or sharpeshooter and they would tap but I'd hold the sub and act like our invisible ref didn't see the tap. Benoit's theme song "Whatever" is my favorite and I still listen to it from time to time.

I met Bret at a Giant Eagle grocery store in a suburb of Pittsburgh in the mid 90’s. I was browsing the bill candy section, (they still had it back then), and I saw a man picking root beer barrels out, unwrapping them, throwing the barrels away and eating the wrapper. I was perplexed, I asked him, “What gives?” He told me there is enough flavor stuck to the wrapper to assuage his sweet tooth and not grow a lumpy assSo brilliant! Changed my relationship with candy for the rest of my life. I started doing the same thing, within 6 months I had a major bowel obstruction and had to have 6 feet of my intestines removed, along with my colon. I now make bowel movements in a colostomy bag, but I never gained another pound and was able to kick my diabetes. That man eating the wrappers is, was, and always will be my hero. That man was Bret Hart.

Pretty sure Kurt is half-joking on the "fuck Goldberg" thing. He previously described Bill as a friend and gave congradulations to him in 2016 saying his HOF induction was well deserved. At any rate, people are fooling themselves if they think the kick is solely responsible for Bret's problems. Yeah, it's totally Bill's fault that Bret continued to wrestle numerous times after the Starrcade match without taking a break, including a hardcore bout with Terry Funk in which Bret took multiple unprotected shots to the head. Bill was the one who forced Bret to not wear a helmet when he had the bicycle fall. We'll just ignore that Bret hadn't said a negative thing about Bill's professionalism until Goldberg was inducted into the hall and had his 2016 comeback run because he's totally not a jealous narcissist. All these Bret Hart marks inlcuding Kurt need to keep that same energy for Owen when he shortened Steve Austin's career and nearly paralyzed him for life. Accidents happen in wrestling. That's the fucking risk you take as a professional in this field. If Goldberg was so inherently dangerous Bret shouldn't have begged to work with him in the first place.

I really hate that everyone bought into Bret's claim that Goldberg hurt him. I'm no Goldberg fan, in fact I can't stand him, and Goldberg injured other people throughout his career, but Bret wasn't one of them. The whole thing is fabricated because Bret can't fathom that he made a mistake and hurt himself. Then, with Bret being who he is and being so respected, then combine that with Goldberg's reputation, and no one questioned Bret's claim. The thing is, if you watch the match, Bret gets hurt much earlier than *The Kick* by not getting the ring post figure four on right and dropping onto the concrete floor head first. It takes him a long time to get up from that she he's not right for the rest of the match. Then, when the kick happens, if that did contribute to the concussion, that's on Bret. Goldberg didn't throw that kick any harder than he should have and Bret didn't get his hand up to protect himself. Watch Sheamus or Drew McIntyre or Bryan Danielson. They all kick very hard and don't hold back at all. The reason they aren't handing out concussions left and right is because their opponents protect themselves. Bret being a 21 yr+ year vet at that point should've known better. It's possible that the head injury previously in the match contributed to it, but ultimately that's not on Goldberg. Don't take my word for it, though. Go back and watch the match. You'll see exactly what I'm talking about. It really is a shame about Bret & his career being cut short because of that, and I truly empathize for everything he's gone through. Unfortunately, those occurrences and Bret's disposition that he's infallible have led him to go through his life believing he's a victim and that the world is against him. I hope that someday he's able to reflect on his life and focus on the good instead of being stuck in the negativity.

Well before he did what he did, he was in fact a damn good performer, people do know that. He's talking of him as a wrestler and if he wouldn't have fucked up like he did, he would be in the HOF for sure. But he ended up being a fn killer..

Kurt vs Bret would have been an ultimate dream match. Would’ve been up there with Flair vs Steamboat, Savage vs Steamboat. It would’ve been one of those matches that draws in new fans and the upcoming wrestlers would study.
