    I made that mistake once. Backpacking in a heavy fall rain at 9,000 to 10,000 feet elevation. I tried a minimalist outing with only a leatherman. A great tool, but small blade for emergency tasks. Fortunately, I was able to gather dry wood and didn't have to make emergency repairs. Never again.

    These are insanely good for the money. In these tight times, that's a real winner.

    I agree completely! Only thing is to make sure you get a SK-5 version instead of a AUS-8 version. The AUS-8 version has a tendency to roll its edge when honed to a razors edge. Thanks for watching

    I’m very pleased with my SK-5 version. Years ago I had one in AUS-8 and it was awful. For the price I’d say it and the Gerber prodigy are hard to beat. I’d hate to live on the difference between them. Thanks for watching.

    I love the SKR (mine is in the AUS-8a steel) the aus-8a steel is tough, as tough as nails, that is its biggest advantage. You can bash the hell out of it and not have any fear of snapping or chipping the blade. I view the edge retention of the aus-8a as adequate. It could be a bit better but I can live with it. I think the idea with the aus-8a versions is to carry a steel (or diamond rod) with you and just touch it up in the field as required.

  • @CentralKyBushcraft

    You're right, it can take a beating. But the constantly have to touch it up was my draw back. I'm use to being able to go awhile between sharpening. Thanks for watching

    I think that AUS-8 steel is just not well suited for fixed blade knives. I don't know if it's the heat treatment limits or what. I have never had any experience with VG-10 but I've heard good things about it. Thanks for watching

    I have one of the sk5 versions. It's not near as good as my fallknivens or cut as good but for $30-$50 it's a good deal. I did have to reprofile mine tho but after that it's a pretty good cutter.

    No I haven't. But mine doesn't touch the sheath when I draw it (meaning it's not a tight fit on the blade). That's a interesting problem. You may have a bad sheath. Contact Cold Steel customer service and explain the issue and they may send you a new sheath. Hope this helps and thanks for watching

    If only the spine went all the way threw with that thickness it's a thick blade with a thin inner handle "full tang"

  • @CentralKyBushcraft

    @CentralKyBushcraft

    Жыл бұрын

    I agree, if it had a tang the width of the the blade with bolted on handle scales it would be a awesome knife for the money. “Technically”, I guess it is a full tang knife even though it’s not exposed, maybe? I guess that depends on how you look at it. The tang is only about a 1/4 of a inch thinner than the handle on the top, bottom and end so it’s more than a rat-tail tang. But again, I guess that depends on the user’s idea of what a full tang is. Thanks for watching

    I have the SK5 and VG10 of the SRK and it's brother the Recon Tanto. I love the SRK but the Tanto just a bit better! Please pick one up and let us know what you think! The longer blade make chopping and batoning soooo much easier. For concealment I carry the Srk, but for actual use while camping, hiking, hunting, and fishing, I would rather take the Recon Tanto!
