I purchased mine in 1990 when I was activated for the first gulf war. I used the same knife for drug eradication and carried it during Iraq freedom. Lastly for ten years in SAR . Couldn’t asked for a better knife

As usual your review is accurate, well thought out & truthful. As stated in past vids, at 72 years old, I've been an avid collector & user of CS products over the decades. I own many brands & models of fixed & folding blades, but Cold Steel is the closest to my heart. Keep up the excellent & relevant content.

I was gifted the Italian CPM 3V version and I haven't had to sharpen it once since I've received it! Watching from a bit south of you on Vancouver Island in Canada in the Cowichan Valley and love what your doing! Keep up the awesomeness my friend! Cheers, Kimmers and Jerbs #22ADAY I'll never quit quitting 👍🏼🇺🇸🔥🔪🔥🇨🇦👍🏼

The biggest problem with the SRK is that, because it is the benchmark knife for the Survival & Rescue Knife class, it seems to have lost a bit of its "novelty factor" recently. So, reviewers and list-makers tend to sort of "forget" about the SRK, in their search for something "interesting" to review. However, you've positioned it spot on, and truly it is a great knife. The San Mai III version makes an ideal companion knife for the bigger CS Trail Master San Mai III, which is an awesome large knife. If one adds a smaller knife for more delicate work (I would choose the ESEE Izula II) one would cover all the Cutting bases for most outdoors needs, and replace the need for an axe. With a Silky Gomboy/Bigboy that would be all one would need for even an extended stay in the wild! Comment invited.

Thanks for your excellent video review. I also love this knife, and at the price point, it just can't be matched. I look after all my knives, including this one. My only (little) gripe is that just by taking the knife in and out of the sheath, the sheath itself has worn the inside edge of the hollow grind to show the silver color underneath. I see your knife is showing this as well. What makes up for this I guess is how well the knife stays in the sheath, so I shouldn't really complain. This knife also holds a really sharp edge for a long time. I have no less than 8 Cold Steel knives, which shows how much I love this brand.

Thanks for the vid, bro. 😊👍 The BUDS SRK issued was the SRK in Carbon-V, which Cold steel no longer makes and was a great knife, but a bugger to keep rust free as you can imagine. 😂 If they are still issuing the SRK, make me wonder if it’s now the SK5 version-definitely not as good as the original, but still a good knife. I love the SK5 version-affordable, great steel, and just all-around a perfect budget blade that’s hard to beat for the price. Would have preferred if they wouldn’t have moved to the hollow grind, but it is a shallow hollow grind and still plenty robust. My 3V version, however is the beloved flat saber grind. All around, the SRK is a nice combat utility knife. Everyone should own at least a good half a dozen. 😂👍

I love the Apo-1S because of it being in Aus 8 like the original Made in Japan Srk’s. Sk5 is good though too, and Survival Lilly’s knife despite being slightly overpriced, it is the only faithful copy of the Aus 8 version that exists

It's waaay overpriced for what it is. A Rolex Submariner homage using pre 904L steel is neither better than the current model nor anywhere near the classic models.

I always liked this knife. I have had 3 of them in SK-5 and also the compact version. All of them had tips, which looked like chisel because of the uneven grinds. Poor quality control over the factory sharpening, unfortunately...

The SRK’s are blades I’ve always liked to keep handy. But, whenever someone wants to borrow or needs a good knife I’ve always ended up giving them away. I have managed to keep my late 80’s Trail Master and now have the newer 01 steel version as my “Rambo” replacement...lol

It is not an outdoor or bushcraft knife. It is not a survival knife. It has no place in an outdoorsman kit. It’s fine for deployment or self defense. It’s fine for rescue. It’s fine for a utility knife. That’s it. It’s not a true full range either. It’s a long rat tang. There is a hard reduction of the steel at the start of the handle which creates a weak spot. It’s not for chopping or battoning or anything else you’ll do in the woods. The truth is people buy it because they think it looks cool and it’s cheep. It’s a great knife for play-army guys.

Just avoid the sk5 version, at least right now. I have had terrible luck with sk5, not sure if it's a heat treat issue or metal. If any one can fix a heat treat issue it's cold steel. That being said I snapped my sk5 srk on day one while atoning wood....lemme say that again while atoning wood. Snapped Right at the handle, bought a second one same thing. Let's fix this issue cold steel. I'm a huge fan boy ever since my first srk in Iraq, you guys are better than cheap steel or bad heat treatment

Meh. It is definitely not a good knife for carving. It will work in a pinch, but there are far better knives for Survival that cross over into bushcraft.

Only problem it's brittle, if you've watched Joe X review it did great until it broke where the blade goes into the handle like a stick. The handle material didn't do well at all. Just my opinion.

Joe X actually likes the SRK (all of them) and he has made that clear in multiple comments-even a dedicated video about the SRKs. It’s a knife he recommends and has listed within his top faves. The thing to remember is that he destroys every knife he tests through extreme and unreasonable abuse that extends well beyond realistic hard use, and has confirmed that the SRK is a great knife for the amount of abuse it can take before catastrophic fail.

Holy c*** this company has too many different versions and one made in Taiwan and 1 made in Japan and 1 made in United States. That's why I can't get into them. I'm sticking with Buck. Cold steel is too complicated.
