as an Australian, wild Kookies will ONLY laugh when you injure yourself or when you're feeling generally depressed and miserable. It's as if the world is a dark slapstick comedy to them.

@@petermurdoch7540 To suggest the word 'aborigine' (note the word is a noun, not a proper non) is racist is ridiculous. The word actually means 'a person, animal, or plant that has been in a country or region from earliest times'. The word is applicable to anything meeting the definition, not just people, anywhere in the world, so, I would suggest, to attempt to restrict the word to specifically Australian Indigenous 'people' is itself very racist as it ignores the much wider application of the word.
Kookaburras were my Grandad's fav animal, and at his funeral Kookaburras started laughing, and everytime we visited his grave they started laughing. Since my grandad was a very jolly man and was always making jokes and laughing, my mum thinks that he has come back as one

Most people I know who love kookaburras are enchanted by their profile and/or their voice. In 2005 I was at a marina in Ku Ring Gai Chase National Park near Sydney for a picnic with my Aussie cousin and his wife. As we set up the picnic fare, I heard a heavy flutter of wings behind me, then several more sounds like that. When I looked in the direction of the sound, I saw NINE kookaburras gathered in a tree very close to our picnic site. I sat in a folding lawn chair and stared in fascination. Suddenly a juvenile among them fluttered over to where I sat and perched on the arm of the chair. If you have never experienced having a kookaburra stare down that beak into your eyes, I highly recommend it. 100/10, would do again!

Reminds me of the time in the USA when I was watering my vegetable garden with the hose, finished and turned around and there were six robins all in a line about eight feet behind me, waiting for me to go away so they could dig for the worms.
When I was a kid someone tickled me as I was looking at a parrot in a pet shop - I laughed and the parrot copied my laughter. Then we just spent, like, five minutes laughing at each other for no reason. It was great.

...and then he says "I turned myself into a pickle".
One of my best memories of a bicycle tour in Australia in the mid 80’s is the sound of kookaburras. I never got tired of hearing them.
Added to my bucket list: laugh with a Kookaburra
Never heard a Kookaburra laugh before! We used to sing a rhyme at school about them sitting in an old gum tree, but being in the UK not only do we not have gum trees, but there's not at Kookaburra in sight!

You guys had that too? it was written in the 20s by a teacher from Melbourne, i wonder when it made it back to the UK. UPDATE: looked it up; Girl guides. She had her troupe perform it and the founders were present and it spread from there

Thanks for the laugh.😂🤣
Какие они милашки большеклювые👍😅😂
The Kookaburra is without question one of my favorite birds. I just love these guys. The can and will offer loads of Laugh's and entertainment!
This bird and his call/laugh has been in every movie set in a jungle that has ever been filmed. He's gotta be worth a bundle. No wonder he's happy!
Love you and I hope keep laughing, wherever you are in the world.
Laughing, like yawning, is wonderfully contagious.
Nature. Inventing the laugh-track before man discovered Sitcom.

They are trying to control us. Make people not worry, or stop people like me from waging war in an rts game I've been preparing to play. Worry not. When the time comes there will be a different kind of laughter. You shall either join my crusade or fall by your own stagnation. But my army and I will do the most universally best course of action to save the human race from that same stand still all the so called rulers and kings force upon their very people. Brothers! ABANDON REASON, KNOW ONLY WAR!

Our little Aussie kooka ! smart bird ! unique sound .
I can’t tell you how many movies this birds laugh has been in. Every movie that people are walking through a forest or jungle and the scene has to be spooky, we hear a kookaburra laughing.
It's not just the sound but how they throw their head back like they're really laughing.

We sang that song in the choir in elementary as a kid. This is the first time I've heard a Kookaburra laugh. Now I get it. 40 yers later.
