The cuteness of an animal seems to be directly proportional to the largeness of its eyes relative to its head. Owls are, therefore, insanely cute.

Also how "expressive" their eyes are plays a part in our perception I think. I think it's why dogs and cats became so popular in the first place, they have expressive eyes that we associate human emotions with (whether we're right or not we think we know when they're happy/sad/angry etc.), so I think a persons ability to read those emotions has a big part to play. And vice-versa is why animals who have small/dark/expressionless eyes like ants and other insects aren't typically viewed with the same compassion.

Nathan Baker Perhaps "beady" was the word I was looking for. Big puppy dog eyes are cute to us as well because we infer innocence (seriously, don't you innately consider said jumping spider somehow "better" than other spiders for it?). But lots of animals that just have pinhole eyes are thrown in the uncomfortable category; ants, lobsters, roaches, crabs, ROACHES, centipedes, roaches.

Goldenkitten1 Crabs and lobsters are cute though, as are whip scorpions. Eye-size is important, but it would also seem that quirky behavior is a factor as well. Because when whip scorpions flail those crazy-long appendages around in a vain attempt to look intimidating, they get an "awwwww" response out of me.

I got a nest of an owl couple on a tree right behind my house, They come there every year in the winter to lay eggs and raise their chicks. Me and my ma feed them left over meat once in two days (we don't want them to be depended on us for food), their chicks keep screaming whole night which forces me to sleep in the hall but that's okay cuz they clean all the rats, insects, lizards and snakes of our area. I actually feel blessed to be able to hear their screams haha. After 4-5 weeks their chicks get big white ball of fur and still no feathers, they basically become yeti of birds! And after a week when they starts flying, they only fly up to our garden or balcony where they keep giving me creepy stares like this (O.O) as if they see a ghost behind me haha and this goes on for a couple of weeks and when their feathers grow fully and they leaves their nest I feel the emptiness in my heart like some best friend on mine has disappeared, I feel sad but at the same time I feel happy for them and get ready to welcome them next winter.

Let them fly if they want. :) Not make stray owl to become people's pet or yours, always remember that one's your best friend. Because they are so cute and thanked you.

It's mid summer and i'm already excited for the winter, eager to see those little yetis but I don't think i'd get to see them this time, I've got admitted in a university in states and will be leaving country in mid winter, I just hope i get to see them before leaving. btw my sweet ma will still take care of them and said she'll keep sending me their pics. guys! keep caring for your little neighbors, i'm sure they'll return some love.
