Wild Cassowary Chases Girl on the Beach

If you encounter a wild cassowary you have to 1. Look him in the eyes 2. Back away and 3. Hold something in front of you.
Luckily for us the thing in our hand was a GoPro so when a wild cassowary charged over we caught it on film.

    @@starscreamofvos Well technically we actually are on top of the food chain in most places of the world. Also, we are actually true omnivores, eating both plant and meat material on a regular basis. We have the guts and incisor teeth to handle meat, as well as gut and molar teeth to handle decent amount of plant materials. Humans are top predators for much of the ecosystems we occupy around the world. Doesn’t mean we’re not in danger of animals below us in the food chain and same goes for other carnivorous animals. For example, cape buffalo and other prey game kill animals like lions sometimes. There’s also competitive predation, where a carnivore may prey upon a competitor carnivore. Think about this: If it were a lie that we are on top of the food chain, would we really be as dominant of a species on this world as we are now? Also, (unscientific) vegan propaganda video? Really?

  • @romanr.301

    @romanr.301

    Ай бұрын

    Birds are not just the descendants of dinosaurs. Scientific consensus now largely concludes that birds quite literally *are* dinosaurs. The only surviving ones. Birds’ closest living relatives are CROCODILIANS. Also, the reason cassowaries are so aggressive is the same reason geese have to be aggressive. Geese and cassowaries both nest on the ground, where their chicks and eggs are vulnerable. So they become mean to fend off predators. Cassowaries are doubly vulnerable because they can’t fly away to escape. They’re just doing what they need to do to survive a harsh environment. It’s not anything to do with their lineage, as the aggression in non-avian dinosaurs is often largely dramatized. The dinosaurs were likely a lot more mild-mannered than we typically envision them to be.

    We went to an animal park back when I was young. My parent left me unsupervised and I wandered off to the birds section. I stumbled on this animal and was super excited to see it was not in a cage so I went to it and pet it. Everything was a blur the moment I heard some people shouting to me to get away and a man grabbed me. Next thing I knew they were checking and asking if I got 'ouchies' anywhere. The bird apparently got out. All I can remember though is that the cassowary was just standing there patiently while my hand pet all over it. The cassowary was actually taller than me. I'll never forget that experience. Beautiful bird.

    Cassowarys aren't usually aggressive so first you have to keep that in mind. Territorial? Yes. What she was doing by backing slowly allowing the go pro to be the center of curiosity was probably the best move. As soon as you get past a certain range the bird would most likely back off and walk away. The running may shock you but it was only out of curiosity of the go pro. Good news was the cassowary wasn't making any rumbling or any other kind of noise which was the first really good sign
