    Great video, Jake. Love the KK. I have a KK42 and a large BGE. BGE 15 years old, KK 3 years old. Both work great. Similar concerns with the BGE as the Kamado Joe. I know people love the joe because of the versatility and accessories, but I love simplicity. Large BGE is a very simple kamado. Jake mentions the top vent on the Joe. The smokeware top I have has held up now for 6 years, no loosening around the collar. No signs of stopping and still looks good (stainless steel). The advantage of a BGE over a Joe is that I can still get parts for it 15 years later - they never change it or come out with new models that obsolete any parts. I am a firm believer you can get great results on almost any grill. It's the "cook" not the "cooker". But the KK produces great results due to how thick and well made it is. There's a clear difference between the KK and every other kamado out there. Because I have 15 years of experience on the big green egg, I can get very close, and I'm confident cooking on the Joe really isn't a whole lot different. But the KK is worth the money -- IF YOU USE IT. -- Previous comment about the KK being for rich people, personally, I wouldn't necessarily call that a complete BS comment. Some people just do not cook often enough to justify the expense. If you cook at the frequency of most people, then it's definitely a luxury item like a luxury car or luxury watch. I use my KK42 fairly often, and I bought it for a specific purpose. The KK42 is huge. I can cook a DOZEN pork butts at once. In the KK32 like Jake has you can probably get 8. I pull, bag (in vac seal bags, cool bags down quickly in an ice bath, then vac seal the BBQ). Then I use the vac sealed BBQ for church events and family events and to let relatives and friends take some home. Warm bags up in sous vide or really any heated water (gently), and it's almost like it's freshly pulled pork. To cook a dozen pork butts in my large BGE, I'd have to do 6 cooks. So for me it's about the right tool for the job. I use the KK for big cooks and whenever I want the most moist meat possible. (also b/c of the sheer size of my KK42, I can cook multiple things at once if I'm doing a family dinner - veggies, meat, etc. Not to mention the amount of moisture a KK retains. The more meat I cook at once the better it turns out - it's quite amazing. And there's nothing like a chicken on the KK, either rotisserie or spatchcock. Anyway. You can't go wrong with --any-- high quality kamado, which includes the joe AND the big green egg. The KK is just the pinnacle, that's all - and - if you love cooking on a kamado due to how easy temperature control is, buying a BIG kamado lets you do a big quantity - like a stick burner that you don't have to attend the entire time. And with better moisture retention than a big pellet grill. I'm just a "kamado guy" - that doesn't mean I don't like food made on a bunch of other apparatus. In fact, I'd say there are pitmasters that can certainly cook better food than what I make on my komodo kamado b/c they have spent a lifetime perfecting it. I don't want to spend a lifetime, so - buying a product that makes it easy to make a GREAT product with minimail time investment was worth it to me.

    @@RumandCook maybe you can actually fit 10 pork shoulders on your 32 like you said in the video- do you have the double bottomed drip pan that is shaped like the KK ? My issue with the 42 is how to catch the drippings. I could probably get 15 or 16 on there but making sure something is under them all is the issue. Cheers!

    Great stuff. KK is why I subbed in the first place as barely anyone does KK content (and most of the ones that do are only reviews so you see even less people cook with it), so it's nice to see it again. I'd like to get one someday, but I probably need to get the deck rebuilt first and got slapped with a large debt to pay down last year, so who knows when. I know the rotisserie used a side bracket and so does the shelf, so if you want to swap between them do you need to swap the bracket? That would be annoying.

  • @RumandCook

    I’m a firm believer in positive thinking. Just tell yourself you will have one someday and it will happen. You remove the shelf, but the rest can stay. Little difficult the first time but easy after that. Works way better with the lid closed properly. 🍻

    I wanted to buy your KK! Glad to see you kept it - wise choice. Some clown said on Smokin Dads BBQ said the kk is for rich guys - what a clown. I have a 23KK and love it. I have two used cars and a small house ok - no rich guy here. But after considering all options, I spent a few extra bucks on the KK and absolutely thrilled that I did. It’s something that I’ll be giving to my daughter someday. It’s a show piece that cooks absolutely phenomenally. You just cannot KK the results on any similar cooker. And absolutely no rust. Thanks for the great video. Honestly - the extra cost is worth every penny.

    Yeah for sure. I’m a firm believer in you get what you pay for. It’s a once in a life time purchase. I bought 4 cheap gas grills before I broke down and bought a nice one. It worked way better than I imaged and held up extremely well. 🍻

  • @jtlbb2

    @jtlbb2

    Ай бұрын

    I would say it is for rich people. I personally cannot justify the price for something that doesn’t cook any better than something significantly cheaper. And even if I could, why would I? I’m not concerned with passing my pits down to my kids. Hell, I’d just keep what I have and then buy them their own and it’d still be cheaper than owning a single KK.

  • @RumandCook

    @RumandCook

    Ай бұрын

    @jtlbb2 it’s about priorities. You said you couldn’t justify it. I see many people with a tiny house and a super expensive car in their driveway. Don’t they all have 4 wheels? Starbucks is for rich people. Why the hell would I spend $5+ on a crappy cup of coffee or fancy insert name here. Why spend twice as much to eat out when you can cook a way better meal at home? We all have different priorities. Just everyone doesn’t think twice about all the small purchases that add up over many years. A $5 coffee, 5 days a week for 10 years is $12k. I choose not to waste money on silly stuff every day. A KK does cook better as well. Much better design for pizza and rotisserie. The thermo mass also improves the final product as well. It also holds temps far better. 🍻

    I like nice stuff. Especially stuff that is functional but at the same time well made and beautiful. Having owned a KJ, I switched to a 23KK and have never regretted the decision. Does the 23KK produce better food than the KJ -> No. But the 23KK looks stunning.

  • @jtlbb2

    @jtlbb2

    Ай бұрын

    @@RumandCook there is a major difference between small purchases that add up to a large purchase over many years vs a large upfront purchase. Otherwise, with that logic no one should buy a used car. Because a brand new car will last years longer and there’d be less maintenance. But not everyone can afford $30,000+ upfront for a brand new car regardless of whether it’d last longer or have less maintenance. And even if KK can cook better, that’s subjective. I seriously doubt if someone cooked me a rack of ribs on a KK vs KJ, that there’d be that big of a difference. If that were true then every competition pitmaster would be using one.

    @@RumandCook exactly my point ! It's just to flash ! Pretty sure you'd lose out to James in a cook-off ! Another point you mention is that the KK is so thick that it's even more efficient than the KJ and thus moves less air. Less air usually means less smoke ! What you failed to understand about the KJ slow roller is that it was designed to move air more efficiently. not "provide more smoke". The KK is glorified charcoal oven and is no longer considered a smoker IMO ! All that said, I enjoy your content and will continue following !
