I knit the tessellated sweater and called it “the beast”… it took a long time with an incredibly tight row gauge and the three yarns attached all the time… but, it was joy when it was done!! 👏🏻 It was great to hear you say the same things!

Alright you two! I got so obsessed despite your warnings that I just dug through my stash and found I have an off white Nutiden, plus the Siluhett (that transitions from dark neutral to light neutral grey) and ordered some KFO mohair in the perfect shade, so NOW I'm obsessed! I also ordered some hand-painted mohair to do a cowl or two in fun colors!

So wonderful to catch up with both of you on this quiet snowy sunday morning as I sit in an Air B&B in Iqaluit. Try as I have, I just cannot get excited about the tessellated pattern and hearing about the process to get to your beautiful FOs I am comforted in my decision to focus on other projects! :) One of those is the Eurus! Yay! had my eye on that one for so long and already have my yarn (nutiden) but need to get through some gift knitting first... Because I am traveling and getting back late this week I will unfortunately again miss Rhinebeck and I am so sad about it, and even more so to miss the opportunity to meet you. There is always next year I guess! Enjoy Rhinebeck and report back! :)

Always love seeing a new episode from you, Jackie and Carmen! I vote Dreamstate for Jackie's Twigs MC because a) I'm obsessed with it and b) it provides (in my opinion) the nicest contrast for the other three colors. And I guess I'm that person that has loved every moment of my Tessellated pullover; I love my colors, I love the way the Spincycle has been unfolding throughout the sweater, I love the fabric after blocking, I love the pattern, and I love the unlimited potential for color play. I already have yarn for a second one and have had to resist getting colors for two additional ones after that! I don't disagree that it's a time-consuming knit, but I love fingering-weight sweaters so that has probably had an impact on my overall experience. Yours both turned out beautifully and I hope you enjoy the hill meetup at Rhinebeck!

Wow, all the knits are exquisite! Carmen, your vest is a work of art. Jackie, thank you for talking about the Collett, I started it thinking it was a raglan, got confused and gave up, I may give it another go, your sweater is really beautiful and the yarn wow. I’ve yet to use unspun yarn, a little intimidating. I’m not familiar with the US size needles, are you able to also state the metric size as well please. Have fun at Rhinebeck, I will be living vicariously.

Jackie, I was interested to hear you talk about the raglan length. My row gauge is never what patterns call for and I know I have to alter sideways sweaters and change the raglan shaping in some way. I almost always misjudge and have to rip back at least once. I learned my lesson when I tried to convince myself that my Lovenote was okay but I never wore it so I happily frogged the whole thing to make something else. The dogs didn’t bother me last time but I’m glad you had a less stressful episode with quiet dogs this time.

Great sweaters girls! Hello to the dogs ❤️ I knit both on knitting machines and by hand and its fun in different ways. Some yarns like nutiden i really enjoy feeling it in my hands. But a knitting machine is not magic instant sweater machine. Its more like the sweater pieces hangs on it but you still make the increases and cables and different shapings by hand with tools. Making stranded colorwork pattern is easier (not yokes) and very fun. And knitting machines are such an old great invention.

Thanks for a fun afternoon! Jackie, take a pic of the Twig ideas… if the mono version shows enough contrast go with the mc that speaks to you. Nothing wrong with low contrast in colorwork as long as the values work. ❤ hey for your handspun, have you tried Andrea Mowry’s Shifty sweater? On unusual construction I love Moonstruck knits and just finished Letho cardigan. I’m currently test knitting for Teti - the Nivalis wrap in Nutiden with silk mohair love it!

I love seeing both of your progressions in style, patterns, yarn, spinning etc. Jackie, I feel like I'm getting a knitting lesson watching how you're moving on from raglan to the shaped shoulders of the Colette tee. I'd like to explore the same type of shoulder in the Colette tee and lo and behold found the LastLong pattern in my Ravelry library. It has a similar shoulder and uses Nutiden. I tried swatching for its broken rib pattern though and don't like how bulky it makes the fabric. So I'm thinking of trying the pattern in another texture or stockinette. I love that you all call a beast "a beast". I get what you say about the low contrast on your tessellated sweater, the texture makes up for it though. As always, lovely knits and creativity! Can't wait to hear your report from Rhinebeck.

Thanks for your thoughtful comments regarding Tesselated vest & pullover! I've switched for the vest, and am getting up my nerve to cast on. However, the pattern has you use a long tail tubular cast on. I've done that for top-down projects but there are a heck of a lot more stitches to cast on going bottom up. Also how completely annoying is the way all the cast on stitches twist around and around?! Do you have a brilliant trick to suggest to make this cast on easier? Or are you team "just blow it off and use regular long tail cast on"? Thanks ❤

The sleeves were so long to do (5 days each!). It’s a good thing that I needed to finish it for Rhinebeck otherwise I may have taken a break from it. Now that it’s finished it’s beautiful. Love your classic grey pullovers! You might be interested in the world of "contiguous" set-in sleeve construction ... there is a group for that on Ravelry which lists all the "contiguous" patterns, and provides background on the construction. Isabell Kraemer has a free pattern "on the beach" that has been very helpful for me as a jumping off point.

For me, White Mountains by Midori Hirose is a great classic sweater that includes very thoughtful arm/raglan increases to fit my body (and I think there is now a fingering weight version). It might be worth checking out! I knit the Felix pullover twice. I knit it and used it a few times and like yours, the neckline was too big for me. I ripped it and re-knit with fewer stitches and a smaller needle and am much happier.

hello from Iceland, where it is already SNOWING -- and i'm deep into a test-knit for Inese Sang, so knitting on deadline but really, really enjoying it despite the time pressure. and so interested by your Skvattram discussion, as i made one this summer (single strand of Träda, no mohair), was WAY off gauge but in the reverse direction than what i'm used to (i tend to be a loose knitter, but this time i was getting way more rows per inch than the pattern, very odd), and ended up knitting much farther for the raglan before splitting than was called for -- but now that i've been wearing it for a while, it's also stretched out a bit, and is now a bit too big. clearly i need to make another one! and as beautiful as all the Tessellateds are (love Jackie's low contrast version), i'm totally in a mood these days for simple (maybe textured), single-color sweaters that really showcase the color & yarn, rather than super-complex colorwork. and omg yes, nutiden and necklines -- i tend to like a higher, narrower neckline (it's cold here in Iceland, so wider necks are just too chilly), and i haven't yet found my magical go-to approach for getting them to work -- i'm actually about to re-do the neck of my Before Fall test-knit sweater (which is top-down, so re-doing the neck is going to require surgery), because it's much too open for me. keep experimenting with gauge & length, hopefully someday i'll have a perfect recipe. (and Carmen, i still think the Felix cardigan would look great if you only button the top two buttons and leave the rest open?) have a fabulous time at Rhinebeck!

and one p.s. from the land of icelandic wool (the postman actually asked me, when i picked up my most recent package of nutiden, which on earth i was ordering yarn from "outside"!) -- léttlopi is always scratchy, sadly, but plötulopi + mohair is a dreamy combination, it feels silky and cozy at the same time. definitely worth trying! and Under the Duvet is my choice for the Twigs -- plenty of contrast with the other colors, but very harmonious together.

Three color hat - Quinn hat by Natasja Hornby will look good with your Twig sweater too! This pattern has 3 and 5 color version.

Love your podcast! Carmen, you mentioned not having knit a Weekender because of the boat neck - did you happen to see that there's a crew neck version now?! 🎉 I have knit a Weekender and love it- the boatneck doesn't really bother me the way I feared it might. I've actually grown to rather like it. But I am so excited to try the crew neck version!

Aw thank you! I actually wear three necklaces pretty much at all times but I looked back and I’m guess it’s the one with the circle and the feminine symbol that you mean? That I bought from the wonderful Lotta at @elkmarketyarn. I’m not sure if she is still doing her metalworks but I highly highly recommend grabbing one if she is!!

Jackie the reason there’s a transition at your yoke is probably not your gauge, but the fact you switched from knitting in the round to knitting flat. So you were at a different part of your colour changing yarn in each section, where you see on screen a bit of a difference. I love your tessellated sweater, after I saw your start last podcast I kept thinking about it and it has manifested your beachy vision perfectly. Only thing I disagree on is that I knit the vest and didn’t find it a slog at all, it went really quickly maybe cos I used Spincycle and enjoyed the colour change

Okay I'm going to watch the rest of this episode however, I just have to say right now that I'm going to be one of the crazy ladies running up to you and hugging you at Rhinebeck. I'm so excited that you're going to be there. Okay I may just run up to you and jump around because I'm not a big fan of hugging. I'll be wearing my tessellated pullover.

I found my tessellated vest collar and arm trim to be a bit stretched out looking because I went down two needle sizes per instructions so I would be cautious picking up less stitches. What if u just knit more depth instead for the collar or switch down one needle size part way through the collar?

Hi, I need your help🙈. My English is not too good. I have fallen in love with the shrug and the soho square. The shrug…, well I can imagine how much yarn I will need. But the square….😣…, no, I don’t understand. Besides I would like to knit the larger shawl. I also checked it on ravelry but still I have no idea. I love love love the yarn you used. And as I will fly next week to the US I will have the possibility to buy that yarn (without paying all the shipping costs, fees and taxes to have it sent to Europe). I know, you wrote down the yarn you needed. But what did you buy? Twice of the main colors each and one of each stripe? Or only one skein of each color? If I look at the square I see much of the main colors and very little of the two contrast colors. And that is what you wrote in the description. I really cannot imagine that only one skein of each main color is sufficient as I am unfortunately a tight knitter. Have I mentioned… I would like to knit the big one😬? And you mentioned you just had a very little left at the end. But buying 6 skeines….., puh that will be very expensive😢. So may I ask you in short: if I like to knit the bigger shawl with that very very nice yarn you used, how many skeines of each color must I buy? Two for each main color and one for each other color? Btw I just found you. Thanks God I did find you. You both are soooo wonderful. I love your projects your yarn choices but most I love the way you present that podcast. So funny, so informative…. I feel that you have a lot of fun doing these videos. I hope you had a great time on Rhinebeck! It must be very famous. Everybody is speaking about it. Maybe sometimes I have the possibility…. Thank you so much to create all those nice projects and let us be part of them and your joy. I am really grateful that KZread finally brought me to you. It makes happy to watch your podcast (have just seen this up to now😥) and this is also valid for your two dogs 🥰. They were also sooooo funny and cute. Many greetings from Europe … and as said… thank you!💕

Hi there! Thank you so much for your kind words. For the size I showed (SoHo Square, 36"), you need 1 skein of suri alpaca for each colour (or 328 yards). If you want the SoHo WRAP (50" square), you will need 900 yards of each main colour and 439 yards of the contrast. Enjoy your time in the US & hope you find the perfect yarny souvenier!
