    I love your show! It's like hanging out with two good friends. It's lovely to see how much you truly enjoy each other and how supportive and giving you are with each other and all of us. I discovered Nutiden through your podcast and became a Patron and I learn so much about knitting from listening to the back and forth between you two. I was searching for a pattern for my Omge, and I just purchased the Aegyo Sweater patten! If you're still undecided, I love how cable/fisherman sweaters look in dark colors! I just finished knitting the Bright Sweater by Junko Okamoto in a midnight black! Thanks for sharing with us, you are both gorgeous beings.

I'm knitting it right now in a cabled cardi and was nervous about whether the stitch definition would be clear enough but this makes me feel more confident! Love love it! Keep chatting “Pod pals” 😂 Jackie - definitely knit with the deep blue if that’s what makes your heart sing. I used Luckra held single for my Fields of Gold…yes, it’s dark… yes, I held it single… so those two decisions mean that the texture is subtle - it prompts a second look to a passerby to say, hey, what’s happening in that sweater, but I absolutely love it. I guess it just depends if you want to announce the cables (light color) or cruise along with them around you. Also, your decision to reinvent your cardigan with the Suri collar is inspiring. Carmen, your sweater is gorgeous - I must cast that on. I also have wooly goodness from Longway Homestead. Here in Pennsylvania, shepherds near me have a conservation flock and follow the mantra: Shave em to save em ❤ love the breed study that Longway offers. I think I’ll use my Longway chunky Rambouillet with Miss Evil’s top down hat recipe. If I run out of yarn, I’ll pop on a Nutiden brim. Thanks again for the podcast!

    Your continued enthusiasm for all things woolly is so fun! Love your discussion about hat construction, the depth needed etc. I have found hats to be one of the hardest to get to fit right. I finally figured out that I needed to go with negative ease. Recently I took out the crown section of a hat, I had knitted, that didn't cover my ears. So I added more length and gave it a decorative crown to boot. So happy with it now. You guys keep pulling out sweater after sweater that I want to knit! I have the Pressed Flowers cardigan pattern and am trying to figure out one strand Nutiden colors that are stable enough to put into a fade for it. This one is in swatch mode and Harden is one of the colors I'm playing with. I may need to try Harden as the background color, after seeing Carmen with her background color. Too funny! The cables are lovely! Jackie, what a beautiful sweater in Vagen Hem. I like the midnight blue, isn't this also a classic genser color? If you haven't already, check out knitting camps that are put on by Elizabeth Zimmerman's daughter, Meg Swansen: www.schoolhousepress.com/camps I went to one in the summer of 2000, the first year Meg took it over after her mother passed away. I was totally out of my league, but still learned so much. Looking back at it, I realize now how much freedom for creating was being taught with Elizabeth's garment construction percentage method. It's given me the confidence to use math to recalculate patterns to fit unspun yarn and larger gauge yarns. It's still a learning process though! Happy knitting, Happy Holidays and New Year, Julie

    Julie!!! I can't wait to check out the knit camp! That sounds amazing!! Thank you for the heads up! And I'm so glad we can inspire you and I would loooove it if we were twinsies with our leather-coloured pressed flowers cardis! And I love the idea of a fade with nutiden for the CC! So good and honestly I would guess that pretty much most colour ways would work held single. The only recommendation I might have is to go with either all older releases or all newer releases so that the thickness stays pretty consistent. But other than that, the world is your oyster! Also another option if you bought it is to use virvan or silhouette if you bought either of those as they have their own colour shifting built in. Haha although as I wrote that I thought, "she would obv know that if she had it" so that last suggestion prob wasn't very helpful! Happy knitting and happy holidays and happy new year to you too!! Happiness all around!

    @@knittingagoodyarnpodcast5765 Good suggestion to use Silhouette or Virvan for the Pressed Flowers cardi. That's the look I'm going for... however I didn't purchase either of those. I have some ideas, but need to swatch some more. I would love it if we were twinsies too! Thanks!! Let me know what you figure out with the knitting camp. If it hasn't changed since 2000, Marshfield WI is kinda in the middle of nowhere (dairy farms). I've spent a lot of time in Wisconsin, and I can recommend some WI highlights if you can extend your visit. There are interesting places in and around Madison, and Milwaukee has a large music festival in July: Summerfest. I love Milwaukee, parts of it have a European feel... German and French influences. Though it may not be on the same level as Toronto, Montreal and Quebec City that are close to you all! Happiness back to ya 😊

    Oh Mary, a Sode in dark blue green!! Yes! And I agree that dark cables are so moody and mysterious. It turns out that Jackie and I both started knitting with our omge and found the stitch def in ribbing to not even be noticeable so we're going to choose different wool for cables but if this was this colour in a bouncy round spun yarn, it would be soooo good! And steeking has to happen for me this year!! It sounds like so much fun and it's definitely about time!!

    Thank you for another beautiful podcast! Jackie, I've also tried to cast on and cast off my half + half triangles wraps on the solstices and equinoxes and have found it to be so grounding. I also really enjoy the conversation around product vs process knitting, and I agree with Carmen that while I wouldn't be okay with my knits burning away, I am primarily motivated by color and texture and design rather than whether the finished garment will fit into my existing wardrobe or whether I'll wear it. It's fascinating how we all approach this differently. Happy holidays and happy knitting!

    Omg you guys! I had to take notes so I would remember how to comment. First of all, I must make a half wrap shawl in Nutiden & suri silk. The drape in that one is heavenly. Gift knitting a sweater for my mom is becoming a nightmare for the very reasons you said! The dark purple pompom was my fave. The Rambouillet hat is so perfect, the yarn looks like whipped cream. And I like that Pom Pom. You both look great in hats. I gasped at the pressed flowers cardi. It's on my list. Yes to a Eurus KAL. And do try to make yours in the OMGE. It would be an heirloom knit. Love you both 😘

    All the sweaters and hats and cables-oh my! Very interesting hat discussion! I think toque is Canadian, beanie is American- just terminology’s! Hive Knits has designed a sweater with half fisherman rib and she talks about how it grows and she has accommodated for that in her pattern. I would suggest that Jackie make a cable hat in that lovely dark yarn and see whether the stitch definition shows well. If it does-make the sweater to match- if not- make the light sweater and you still will have the cable hat in dark. Thanks for another fun episode!

    Jackie, if you like YA fantasy, do you also like middle-grade fantasy? If so, I have a couple of recs for you: 1. The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making, by Catherynne Valente. This is book 1 of a series (5 books, I think?) that are a dang delight from the get-go. 2. The Girl Who Drank the Moon, by Kelly Barnhill. This is a standalone book and the story is richly detailed, by turns hilarious and heartbreaking and thought-provoking. I was so sorry to see this book end.

I love the process, especially producing the fabric I want, playing with texture and colour, modifying patterns to fit me better, making up my own patterns and copying garments. But I am definately keen on the product as in the last year I have ripped and reknitted 3 jumpers, 1 hat and a shawl as I wasn’t happy with the finished garment.

    totally with you, Carmen, on the merits of bottom-up sweaters! and definitely try plötulopi again sometime, as i don't find it prickly (although léttlopi definitely is) -- for people who need to be more cost-conscious, it can be a great option (and held with mohair, it becomes super-silky-feeling). and it's Icelandic! how can you go wrong? And i would go ahead and try the cabled sweater in Omge, it will undoubtedly be more subtle, but subtlety is often a good thing -- and there's nothing like knitting with the color that's calling to you. Lastly, steeking is AWESOME, you will have a great time doing it.

    @knittingagoodyarnpodcast5765

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Tracy! I find that nutiden grows a little, and will do so whether I block it or not. But it also depends somewhat on the item: things that get stretched with wear (hats, cowls, my lagom) stretch more over time as can the neck ribbing of sweaters. But sweaters, shawls etc tend to stay mostly the same as far as I can see/notice. Unless I specifically try to increase their size with blocking, in which case there is definitely a lot of flexibility in how big you can get something to be.
