Thanks for the inspiration on transforming your yoke color work sweater! I’ve always avoided yoke colorwork because it looks clunky on my body! Now I’m inspired to try what you did…exactly as it helps to have your guidance!

Sorry, I wanted to comment on some of the questions you asked. 1. Your "chaos" is real life interactions. It's like being with friends and hanging out. Don't change it and please don't think it's necessary to be more "organized" or to go by some kind of agenda. 2. I am much more like Carmen in the knitting in that I rarely swatch, and I generally trust that the objects will turn out the way I envision. Sure: sometimes that doesn't happen. But as I'm a process knitter more than a product knitter, it's usually ok. 3. I love seeing the WIPs, and I hope you'll continue to show them as well as the FOs. I may actually be more interested in the WIPs because you are engrossed in the process then. 4. I used to be a big needle knitter and used 5 - 9 mm needles most of the time, but I find many projects these days are on 2.25 - 4 mm needles. It's actually harder to knit with bigger needles for me now. ANYway, you two are amazing. Do you (always) because it's fabulous.

I think this will enable you to pick up your dropped fisherman's rib stitches. It is in words as you asked for. I did it from memory from when I dropped some stitches on my birch sweater so I hope it works: From the right side: 1. Use a crochet hook and pick up the lowest loop that has come undone. 2. Make sure the stitch below is a complete half fisherman's stitch with a 'hat' If it doesn't have its hat, the stitch you have on your hook is its hat. I think it is easiest to drop down to the next stitch with a hat in place. You should now have a column of perfect complete half fisherman's rib stitches with one stitch on your crochet hook. Continue as follows 3. Put the next dropped stitch on top of your crochet hook, this stitch will form the hat. 4. Then pick up the next dropped stitch and pull it through the 2 stitches already on your hook. This should form another half fisherman's rib stitch and leave one stitch on the hook. Repeat 3 and 4 till all the dropped stitches are picked up.

First of all, I just want to say I am a new subscriber from Alberta Canada 🇨🇦 , I’m not even a quarter of the way through your podcast and I hit the subscribe button! I have never knit 😊with Nutiden yarn but am for sure going to as you have made it sound like an absolute dream L O L. I have only been knitting for about a year and a half but I am currently working on my third sweater and have not yet knit a shawl so I think I will make the Fleur my first. Jackie, Carmen is 100% correct. That Lopi DOES look better on you. And it would be lovely if you trusted Carmen's take when she says something looks beautiful on you. She wouldn't lie to you or tell you something that important just to make you feel better. I think you need to do what makes you happy, but truly: your version of the Matoaka is gorgeous, from the color choices, the style and the fit. You need to be proud of it and wear it with confidence!!!

Another great episode, thanks for keeping me company. The spinning content comes at just the right time for me, I started spinning not too long ago. Carmen, I knit a lot on toothpick needles as well and what motivates me is that I remind myself of how much I love wearing garments knit with thinner yarn. Try printing out a photo of the garment and /or hang up a swatch (yes, a swatch) where you regularly see it. Otherwise, I love using progress keepers and knit while watching something engaging or during work meetings.

As always you are both inspiring... Love the "chaos" which really is not chaos at all. Loved all your FOs and the Mataoka, from my perspective looked better with the inward folded collar... but stunning and, Jackie, noone will know there should be a line there or not! Funny you should talk about the Eurus as I have been thinking about using "your" Luckra for the Eurus sweater... Not sure if it is a good match yet but I will start swatching. Also it is quite thick so will see if better in single or double strand... Would love your thoughts on it! And what an awesome husband you have Carmen! Not only you get to tag along but he is actually encouraging your passion! Wow!! Definetely a keeper! Fave knits?? ouhh tough one; righ tnow I would say the Helia and the Roots and Shoots, both of which I made in Nutiden. But for summer I am getting a lot of wear out of my Untangled Crop Top that I made entirely with left over yarns! Yay!!

Carmen, Twice sheared sheep make an increase decrease row counter. I usually use it on socks when doing top down sock for the decreases. I can never remember if this a plain row or a decease so the counter helps. It might work in the tank top project of yours. Love the Fleur shawl. Adding to my queue now. I hope to run into you two at Rhinebeck. I am going with my sister. Should be fantastic.

Arne and Carlos have done a few sweaters that the color-work is totally created by using different colored mohair - I think one is vidar. So nice. Love your sweater.

My favourite ever knit is the Zweig sweater for the fit and the combination of plain and lace (but not holey lace which is not my favourite ). Stunning knits that you are both doing.

Loved all of it, my Canadian friends! No more chaotic ‘than usual’ 😅 (I pick up on no chaos, actually, but then I muse pretty big time myself, as you know). Jackie, that Lumme pullover - my God, I basically want to copy everything you did there! So gorgeous. And Carmen, I’m knitting a summer top on 3.5 mm needles at the moment (toothpicks to me, honestly) and have another lined up, which I bought the KfO silk for, so I’m all too familiar with the ‘doldrums of toothpickland’ 🤣 Hang in there - at least there are no sleeves! And of course: Thanks so much for the mention 😘 ❤️ Also: I want to see all of it - FO’s and WIP’s galore! (Coming back for the last 40 minutes later and happy to spread it out a little = savour and dwell on it 💞)

#10 shawl by Lori Versace. When I first saw it I wasn’t keen on it. But 3 versions later, not true. My super happy knit!

So fun as always! I’m so game for a Fleur-a-long, I immediately went to my stash to see what yarn I could use. My favorite knit is my Kerr sweater by creabea in gray and white. Excellent fit and unique construction, engaging colorwork. I get so many compliments. Then also a Travelers Cowl in a soft white, easy to pair with anything to elevate an outfit

Process vrs product- the dilemma. Knitting a really long Harry Potter scarf in gold and burgundy (as requested by my granddaughter) has been sooo hard to knit 1. Scarf knitting is boring 2. Knitting with colours I don’t like together sucks the joy. The colour change of the stripes was the only thing that kept me going. So I guess I am more process than product- I need the joy! However I do love the products too. Carmen, I made the Elton cardigan with BLACK mohair- it was endless and had to be knit only in the morning in good light, BUT, I have to say that I LOVE the finished sweater and would love another. Not sure I could do it in half fisherman knit- kudos to you and you will love it, I know. Jackie, I love your modified version of the co,our work sweater. So creative and perfection. Hanging out in Denmark - what a joy!

hey ladies! not sure if it's been mentioned or if you've thought about it, but I fear an aran weight sweater for Rhinebeck could be too hot... I feel like in the past couple of years it's been in the mid-high 60s. (i just checked one day's history, and last October 22, 2022, the daily high was 68F; in 2021 it was 66F!). Obvi, go for it if you want, but just wanted to add a variable in case it's a new one to weigh.

I just looked up the turas shawl and it’s gorgeous and exactly the shape I love!! And that’s amazing that you scored some onska! Also, I find any cast on works with nutiden now, but remember feeling really discouraged when I first tried it casting on with a long tail cast on, bc it kept breaking. What was much easier for me was doing a provisional cast on and then knitting my way into it. Hope that lets you get started and after your hands get used to it, I think you’ll find that any cast on becomes much easier!

I am in love with the color Jackie made for the flower cardigan, but I wonder, what would happen if it turned out to be a terrible color, or a bad combination? Carmen, what would you say? And if it happened the other way around, Jackie, what would you do? On the one hand we want beautiful products, on the other hand the process is no less important. Is it worth suppressing thinking outside the box for something wearable?

This is so interesting and thought provoking! I (carmen) can’t say for sure what I would do but I think if Jackie loved her colour combo, then I would automatically love it too, even if it wasn’t a combination that I would originally want for myself bc the enthusiasm would literally amplify its beauty. So I can’t see myself not liking something she loved. If she didn’t love it and I also didn’t love it, then I don’t think it would be hard for me to agree that I didn’t love it. And it often happens that she might not love something but I do love it and in that case I think sometimes the combo becomes more appealing to her.

What did we do???” Haha then I read the rest and was very relieved! Also, I seriously feel your pain with the queue situation. Imagine sitting front row to Jackie’s awesomeness!! And it would be amazing to meet at rhinebeck!! 🙌🙌💪

My favorite projects are always the ones that I'm working on. Currently, that would be the Kuutar Top, my second Emsworth Vest, and a test knit. Jackie, we're also stopping over in Iceland on our way from Spain to Boston this summer! @lamanchaknitter

no worries, Jackie, your Lumme pullover is totally a summer project for here in Iceland, where it is currently (where i live in the NW) 7°C and raining -- although next week is forecast to be warmer. and it's beautiful! although hard to see the different mohair tones on the screen. and i am waiting patiently for the hoped-for day when Sonder Yarn Co. finally gets into the international shipping game, because right now they only ship to US and Canada and they make the BEST colors, so i'm very sad. last winter (2021-22, not the most recent one) i got a few skeins of their yarn from when it was still produced under the Espace Tricot label, and made one of Lisa's patterns, the Aisé II, which is a strand of mohair with lace-weight BFL in a long rectangle & eyelets, and like the Fleur shawl, it's just perfect in its simplicity -- a bit endless to knit, yes, but at the time it fit my mood, and combining a pale blueish-grey wool with a pale yellowish-green mohair made the most gorgeous color that's just like the surface of my fjord in winter light. i think i'm still figuring out my favorite shawl shape, crescents are definitely up there -- and am learning, with many (too many!) nutiden color ways, to buy enough so that i can make one project with the nutiden alone, because her colors are SO amazing, and then a second one with mohair, because it really is the most scrumptious softness, and if/when you can find the right pairing where, as you said, the mohair actually augments and accentuates the nutiden rather than pulling it too hard in another direction, it's just amazing. that's me with Solvända right now -- one shawl with mohair, one textured sweater knit with two strands, and thank goodness i bought extra because i'm so not done with that amazing colorway. so many patterns, so little time... (and, for the record, love your laughing smiling chatting chaos, please don't ever get more organized! and for me, discussing WIPs vs finished products vs. dream knitting vs. spinning doesn't matter at all, and talking about projects twice or more is fine too -- just enjoy the conversation & interaction, except that my cats start growling and looking around suspiciously whenever your dogpack starts barking! )

and i'm with Carmen, i think the Matoaka Genser looks amazing as-is. will fit right in here in Iceland! and also with Carmen in that summer (even here) is my least-favorite season.

and last reply (you can tell i listened to the podcast in stages): sheep is technically both singular and plural, but i think sometimes people use "sheeps" to refer to different KINDS of sheep(s)? certainly that's true with the word fish, which is similarly both singular and plural, but if you want to talk about a bunch of different species of fishes, you can extra-pluralize it. EDIT: oh, Carmen just said that too. great minds thinking alike, perhaps.

Omg I (carmen) loved this all so much!!!! I’m not even sure where to start. Maybe the cats come first? If it helps, when I rewatch the episodes (which I actually do bc I find them just as funny as I did live), my dogs go crazy in the barking parts…even though they’re literally barking at themselves!! I also think that is a brilliant idea to plan for two nutiden projects for each colourway! Bc I feel the same way: the colours are perfect as they are AND they can also still be enhanced by mohair! Why have to choose btw those options? And also I’m so glad you love our chaos. Haha it’s so us that we truly believe that we will attract our tribe by just being authentic and those that get it will stick around! You are clearly one of us!!!

Aw thank you!! I cannot recommend the Fleur shawl more! I’m actually going to cast on another next week!! And my dress is the dawn dress by christy dawn and it is my absolute favourite dress of all time. I actually have it in two colours and will likely still buy more it’s that good!!

One thing that i find sad...if i am overwelmed it can stop me knitting. I really have started managing how much time i spend and which podcasts i watch and how much i enter ig.

Aw I couldn’t understand more. I (carmen) find it easy to get overwhelmed with social media in general and often take breaks from it. And honestly I love KZread knitting pods as well but sometimes I can’t find the time for them as well. We just have to honour where we are and only knit/watch/scroll when we feel it’s joyful to do so!

Carmen, do you have a lifeline in your Stria? I am stressed just hearing you dropped stitches in half fisherman’s rib. Argh! That is what deters me from starting brioche or fisherman’s rib, cuz I KNIW I will screw them up and not be able to fix it.

I haven't gotten brave enough to knit any sweaters or anything like that yet -- I've only knitted hats, scarves, and socks. Oh, and I did knit a shawl! It was a KAL for one of the seasons of Game of Thrones -- the Ice & Embers Shawlette 2019 KAL by Kristin in Stitches. Loved it! Another knit that I did a few years ago was the Easy Heirloom Knit Blanket by Mama In A Stitch. I did it in the colors listed in her pattern because it was the perfect neutral for a wedding gift. I'll put the links for the shawlette and the blanket here if anyone is interested in looking. Love your podcast! I find this tutorial for fixing half fisherman's rib very clear. I suggest to fix 1 column at a time (less than 4 minutes!). Also, fix all K1below columns and, after, fix all Purl columns.
