Knife Making - HUNTING Knife / Wrought Iron Laminate
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
We took a trip to our friend who has made a wrought iron laminated steel with an 80CrV2 core for us.
Unfotunately, as you can see on the video, there was a delam in the notch / ricasso area, so we had to redesign the whole knife to a hidden tang.
Buy this knife at:
www.barbershop-customs.pl/pro...
The steel is wrought iron + 80CrV2 + 15n20 + 80CrV2 (core).
Big shoutout to Maciek who forged the steel:

@BarbershopCustoms
4 жыл бұрын
@@ximoa.2399 well, the epoxy does the job of keeping it together, there's no way to take it off unless you heat it up to above 100 C. I'm actually pretty sure it would be easier to damage pinned wood to take it off than to pull off an epoxied one
@ximoa.2399

have you too costly work on handle like would that was better, and you have tyap blooper, not the hilt, the hilt with bolster bad, the price costly for 400 $ You have emphasis on handle big, for such bolster have knife in my country can entail problems with law, by laws such box is considered proscribed in my country.

Now what I'm about to say can be taken the completely wrong way. I am not here to be a hater, or anything of the sort. I am simply giving my opinion, that said I'll get on with my comment. The knife you made in this videos is stunning, I would gladly pay a pretty penny for it and be satisfied. I just recently found your videos, and I have to say you do have skill and technique to the craft. But it shows you are still an amateur, it seems you've been doing this for around 3 maybe 4 years. And I'm just here to give some advice, I've noticed in your other videos you never really beveled you handle scales to make a smooth transition from the handle to blade. In this particular video it seemed like you made a last minute decision to turn the knife into a hidden tang, which I would assume is do to a cold shut at the tang and so you ground passed it. So I feel you already know this but it's not a good idea to put weight reduction holes in a hidden tang do to the fact it'll throw off the balance. Again you did an amazing job, I was just supplying constructive criticism, in no way did I say you suck or you should give up. Keep at it and improve as everyone should, knife makers and blacksmith are a dying breed. It's great seeing another on of us out there.
@BarbershopCustoms
4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your honest opinion ;) We appreciate constructive criticism. The decision to make a hidden tang instead of a full tang was dictated by the circumstances (I've described it in the description) - there was a small delam in the notch area, so the only way to rescue the blank was to grind off the delam and make it a hidden tang. The weight isn't off balance here, the weight point is in the middle of the knife (where the guard meets the blade ;)
