How to blacken steel (hot oxide):
A mixture of caustic soda (700g), potasium saltpeter (250g) and water (1,2 l)
The temperature of the solution should be kept between 120 - 140 C.
I keep the knife inside for about 30 minutes to get consistent black colour, you can manipulate the time to achieve different results, shorter period should give you dark brown or purple - ish colour.
Be careful - this mixture is highly corrosive!
Heat treatment:
-Austenizing temperature: 830 C
-Tempering: 180 C

Very custom touch, I love it. Im thinking about doing vine work on the spine of all of my knifes. Its the little things that set people's stuff apart.
Serious business!!!....I’m not a knife guy....I’m a gun guy...But when I saw my first video of Barbershop Customs care and processes, I had to to have a look on his website....Not a huge inventory, but STUNNING knives...I now own a Barbershop Customs knife with a red stabilized wood handle...And I love it!!!! Came with a beautiful leather scabbard in a presentation quality wood box....Wear it on my belt...EDC!!! Wouldn’t think of leaving home without it!!!! Thanks to you, Barbershop Customs!!!!!
Beautiful knife.i am a 14 year old blacksmith and you have inspired me to keep making knives and to keep trying.

Really love the design of this blade! Are you ever concerned with ruining the tempering while sanding the bevels? I don't own a belt sander and only used an angle grinder for rough shaping a couple times. Didn't turn out too great in my case 😌

Man I love your knives. Really love this one. I have watched your knife making channel for a couple of years now and you have helped me put with my own knife making, not sure of you recognise my name but would love to know if o can get thos knife made with that beautiful burl and how much it would cost me. I live in Australia and am a massive fan. Please tell me if it is still available and the price to my country. Keep up the awesome knife making guys you rock.
Wow beautifully done and the pin adds alot of class.Does the black rub or scratch off after a time?Stay safe from canada
Stunning work as usual. What is the grey paste like stuff you smear onto the blade before heating it? And what is the cream you shine the wood with? Gorgeous work!

Whats the thickness of the liner i seen you used two im about to order .20 and am not for sure what its gonna look like the 80crv2 im using is .220 thick lol.. thoughts?
캬
Hello. Beautiful knife!!! What is that gray paste that you put on it before putting it in the oven and what is it for? Why do you do the heat treatment before roughing? Thank you so much.
I saw that you used a drill bit to scribe the line on your pre hardened blade, I can't get mine to make a mark, any tips? That pin looks awesome! Also what were you using as liners?
@BarbershopCustoms
4 жыл бұрын
You won't mark the steel, it just scratches the dykem. If you want to scratch the steel, you can try a drill bit for hardened steel, but they're usually pretty expensive
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
What wax do you use?? That's really nice
