Kite Aerial Video with GoPro Hero 9 Black!

Ғылым және технология

In this video, I use one of my kites to lift the new GoPro Hero 9 Black. I wanted to test this camera for possible use for beginners and travelers to take aerial video in areas where drones are not allowed. Please practice your kiting and be safe before attempting any real world use. If you have any questions, please ask in the comments.

    I'm glad that you made this video because we are going to the UAE soon and they don't allow non-citizens to use drones. We had the idea of using one of our kites by just attaching the gopro. I think that to keep it facing in the right direction maybe a streamer would keep it facing whichever way we want it to face. You have a really nice setup but we are using a much smaller kite that we can travel with (it looks more like a parachute). That way no sticks get broken during traveling. Thank you for making the video.

    Glad you found it helpful. I have some smaller soft kites like the one you describe that are great for traveling. I am usually lifting a much bigger camera with my kite so the larger kites are needed when I travel. The kite should work well for you in the UAE, just be careful of any laws that would prohibit aerial photography in some areas.

    Very cool. Thanks so much for doing this video. It has me very encouraged that using the Insta360 ONE R 360 camera will have similar results. The nice thing about 360 is that I won't have to point it in a direction since it's getting completely stable 1080 in all directions at the same time. Thanks for showing what the Hero 9 looks like. I'm really impressed with their horizon leveling and their audio is amazing.

    You're welcome, thanks for watching! I think the Insta360 will provide similar results as well, and like you said, it's easier to select your direction. The audio on the Hero 9 is MUCH better than previous GoPros, not perfect, but definitely usable!

    You should get a loop reel, letting out string is super smooth as you just let the kite pull and have the loop spin off the line it needs... No more jaggy hand over hand...

    Thanks for this new video on the GoPro H9. Why didn’t you test the camera in higher resolutions, aside from the fact that the stabilization is accomplish with sensor cropping? Do you have a video on how you assembled your current picavet mount rig? I have a kite and a ZV-1, but haven’t bought/built the picavet rig yet. Mostly flying DJI M2P and MA2, but I want to capture some footage from the National Mall in DC with the camera kite.

    Filming in higher resolutions for KZread presents more challenges than benefits to me. The file size is also exponentially larger compared to a very minor increase in quality when shown on KZread. This video is a basic overview of my KAP rig: kzread.info/dash/bejne/iHmllrlpZJXcps4.html

  • @EvanReinheimer

    @EvanReinheimer

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hmm...that's a good question. I'm not sure if it will take photos at the same time as shooting video. My guess is no, because there is only one "shutter button" that controls the rec/stop while filming...but I'm not 100% sure that it's not possible. I've rarely been impressed by video stills as photos, but for web use they are probably fine. You can set the GoPro to take photos at intervals which would make auto-KAP very easy with this camera.

    Excellent video...the 9 looks very promising. I was redirected here from one of your other videos where we had some back and forth about video stabilization. I just got the Go Pro 8 (just days before the release of Go Pro9...was not aware a new model was forthcoming), and I THINK the 8 has horizon leveling as well. I also got a lightweight gimbal ( FeiyuTech WG2X) for even more stabilization. I have yet to try it out, but I think it's very promising for smooth video. This guy used them as a combo and got really good results, I think. He was using the Go-Pro 7 and a similar gimbal: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Zph-3LmDftPSmdI.html
