Glad to know that fish , despite the pollution in the sea and the mercury, can be a part a healthy vegan diet (fatty fish , 2-3 times a week). After all fish could ne considered as a vegetal meat. And , at least as the debate about diets is concerned, I totally agree with the idea expressed in this channel stating that there is much anger and hate in the world already and that what we want to do is celebrate our successes and even small achievements and improvements in our life style and mood.

Careful of the phosphorous in fish. Canned sardines are a no no. Shrimp and Smoked Salmon are OK.

When I took LOSARTAN my potassium shoot up 5.9. So I had to take potassium lowering medicine for 3 days and it went down to 4.4 but then I decided not to take LOSARTAN.

So many factors go into this: dosage of losartan, other meds, diuretics, your CKD stage, bowel habits. There are ways around this and its important to work with your nephrologist to see what the right dosage of ACEI or ARB you need is

I missed this but I have a question. Protein and phosphorous aren't as bioavailable in plants as in animal products. Is the same thing true for potassium? Also I've been trying to gain muscle. I'm at Stage 3b. I'm 6'5", 260 pounds, and I'm 56 years old. If I go plant based protein can I eat more protein? Does the bioavailability have an effect on how the kidneys process it?

Great question. The answer is no regarding potassium. For protein, new data shows you can get similar results with plant based or animal based. For non-CKD folks, 1.2 to 1.6 grams/kg of bodyweight with resistance training gives the best outcomes for increased muscle mass

Hi Dr Hashmi, Thanks for what you are doing. In my family, there is a gene that gets passed on to each generation, although some of us have been lucky enough to dodge it. The condition is autosomal dominant kidney disease, but it’s not polcystic.. it basically means that tiny proteins begin to form inside the kidneys blocking the tubules and the filters. Even though this is hereditary, do you know if it is possible to keep the disease at bay by eating a strict whole food vegan diet whilst supplementing with things such as nmn & resvertrol. Also does supplementing to promotes blood vessel health help atall? I’m trying to think outside of the box a bit as the general consensus I hear is that there’s nothing that can be done… but I don’t believe that… I feel that it must be possible to have some say as to how the gene expresses when / if it does and to also counteract the damage that begins to occur in the kidneys when the gene is expressing. I also wonder whether patients with the gene mutations struggle to methylate certain vitamins, amino acids or minerals which over time triggers the faulty gene to express. Also would fasting help? Apologies for the long question and thanks in advance, Steve

Doc Hashmi do you advise kidney damage patients with high protein leak of plants based diet or tacking medication is a must or both?!
