    I’m loving that Tick is carrying the video today while Wolfman is all wound up. Great job Tick! A lot of bike for the price and a great platform to upgrade. Yes, it has shipping damage but Kent didn’t put a damaged derailleur on the bike. Wolfman needs to calm down…

    I have mine mostly done, I knew it was 9 and mechanical brakes as Walmart had correct specs when I ordered it. If you go head to head with an Axum the dropper is the only negative. A guy on a budget could ride this out of the box. Also upon disassembly it was greased and has a sealed cartridge bottom bracket. Can’t wait to finish mine and ride.

  • @WOLFTICKVIDEOS

    @WOLFTICKVIDEOS

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, I told Jeremiah not to say anything about the bottom bracket unless he knew for sure, but he never listens😆. He later found that it listed it on the Kent site as having a sealed bb but it was too late. I stand corrected on the bike not having a medium label, well sort of. I guess it does list it on the warning label, but it doesn't seem to have the customary frame size label that 99% of bikes that have sized frames come with. We haven't watched any videos on the bike yet so we don't get influenced until we do the Realtime Review. Did yours come with a bent derailleur? Thanks man👍

    The product page currently says 1x9 and mechanical brakes. KevCentral reviewed this in a video posted June 6 with the same specs. It would be great if there was a screen shot of the spec list with the better parts. There's little worse than not getting what's advertised. Add that to the shipping (?) damage and New Bike Day loses all of its joy! Have a beer or 6 Wolfman and things may look a little better. At least the bent parts might look straight!

    Hi guys, I've been watching a lot of your videos lately and they are great. I didn't realize at first and I don't know if its your intention but you seem to cater for the everyman. Loads of channels show off there bikes and show you how to upgrade all the top spec gear. That's fine but how many people can afford £2000 on a group set or £1000 on brake's when the bloody bike only cost £500. I love that you show that with just a few budget upgrades, everyone can enjoy mountain biking. Also love the jiu-jitsu videos, I've just got my blue belt

    I bought one of these and they are a fantastic value. My derailleur was fine. You do have to break the chain and route it correctly thru the rear derailleur. Clicking will go away. The seat is low quality, who cares, most people customize their seat. Tires are made by Maxxis. Kickstand is easily unbolted. Frame paint is nice. Numerous frame brands come out of the same factory as this bike. So set it up and go have fun on this entry level bike. There are numerous good videos on setting this bike up. Be thankful that good affordable products like this help grow your sport. Have a great 2022! Peace.

    I take it you mean people in general should be grateful, correct? Our job is not to be grateful, but to discuss our experiences and opinions, that's why I ask. There have been other bikes as well that provide a great platform before this one and may still be a better overall buy for some. The original listing for the bike was amazing, but instead we now have went from "amazing" to just "good", in our opinion. Sized frames, hydraulic brakes(regardless of quality), and a 1X10 drive train(preferably with clutch) for $399, would have ushered in a new level of value and instead we got another "good" buy. On a side note, you don't need to break the chain, both of our Trouvaille's came with a master link. Those numerous good videos with setting up this bike may have missed that one😉. Thanks for watching man. We have more episodes featuring the Trouvaille coming up, so stay tuned.👍

    Bent derailleur hangers are super common with direct to consumer bikes. Either get an alignment tool and fix it or buy a new hanger for $25. Of all the things to bitch about this is not a dealbreaker

  • @WOLFTICKVIDEOS

    @WOLFTICKVIDEOS

    2 жыл бұрын

    @Ted Yed We didn't have just a bent derailleur hanger on our copy, we had a twisted up derailleur as well. We have received between 40 and 50 bikes or so and have only had one like this...This is the one. All of this said, this bike is not bad for the money, but it's also not what it was originally advertised as either. Who felt like a bent derailleur was a deal breaker? We got ours traded out, and Chris H at The Shed got a discount on his to cover the cost of fixing it.

    @@WOLFTICKVIDEOS In New Zealand, you get what they advertised... (within reason)... A full refund would be expected, but possibly a spec upgrade to what was advertised would not be out of order... The trick is... When you ordered it.. was the actual correct specs or old specs being advertised in the (i take it this was online) page you ordered it from... Unfortunately as a bike has a lot of specifications, I'm guessing things like brake type and gear set is not actually mentioned in the purchase paperwork.

    Sucks about the shipping damage, but I guess that could've happen to any bike. How's the top tube stand over height compared to the Schwinn Taft? I"m 5'10" and had to return my tall Taft for costco northrock cx27 because I just couldn't safely stand over it. Now I'm thinking this Kent would be a much better starter MTB for the same price as the northrock IF it fits me. I do like the Maxxis tire on the northrock, but not the lesser suntour fork and 3x7 drive. I'd like it to be pretty decent out of the box and don't plan on upgrading much, but wouldn't mind the future option to do so...

    Aside from the "bait and switch ", I would be most pissed about the jacked up derailleur. FedEx is the worst, I ordered an ixf crankset/bottom bracket and the driver was to lazy to walk upstairs to my door, so she threw it from the ground up over the railing, hitting the wall before landing on the second floor balcony outside my door. When I opened the box one of the lobes that you bolt the chain ring to was bent, but luckily I was able to bend it enough to work without breaking.

    I don’t know guys I would love to purchase the mongoose Ardor, but that rear wheel is gonna be expensive to replace. I do like how this new Kent bike comes with the upgraded rear wheel. I’d like to see what the small frame looks like if they even come out with it with a 29 inch wheel. I kind of wanna think they’re going to shorten the Kranks down to the normal 170 mm lengths when they put out the small frame. Again I’m not convinced they’re going to put out a small frame with a 29 inch wheel. I’m just gonna keep loving my medium Axem. I just ordered an exterior routed dropper post for my sons aluminum comp midsize. I ordered it from PNW and he’s really liking it. That PNW exterior dropper post might be an option for this bike.

Hopefully you can get a replacement or at least a discount for false advertising. I will say that is a nice looking frame and provided the frame is structurally sound, it a good foundation for a budget build at $399. Hey J (and of course J)... If you couldn't afford Hydraulic... would you run cable disk or Y-Brake. Personally I would only have cable disk on a bike that didn't matter if it didn't really stop (i.e my daily road rasher... not that I ride much on the road... or daily for that matter)... It's a shame about the rim damage... but I would WAY prefer old Y-Brakes over cable disk... Ok Y-Brakes can have a cable break... but so can a cable disk... and Hydraulic can burst or run low.. (I ran my Foes on Olive oil for 20 years and it would boil on occasion... and I wore through a poorly run rear line and ran a local rocky hill to sea with no rear brakes... but Hydraulic are SOOO far above the alternatives it would be the 1st thing I would spend money on in an upgrade... almost above correct tyres (of course I got used to riding DH on bald rear...) (unknown fact.. even a lot of experts probably haven't considered... riding with NO rear brakes can make you a better rider... You learn to do your breaking BEFORE the corner, you break harder on the front and release to roll through... and you get to trust the front more... and discover how little the rear are of use except for slide turning.. I did some of my best motorbike riding on an old IT200 that had disk up front and drum at the back that would barely survive a ride.. often didn't even start on one.) I'm a maintenance engineer... so the last thing I really want to do is maintain things at home... so once I got my latest (2nd hand Faith 0) and cleaned the oil off the brakes... and fixed the sticky piston probs some older XT levers had... I have not touched my brakes in over 2 years... no adjustment.. nothing... (wait I may have put literally 10-20 drips of oil in one of them). As per my 1st 2 videos.. these brakes were screaming and not actually stopping with 4 fingers... after a clean... and 2 years later... 1 finger OTB if I want.... Lets see a Cable disk go anywhere near that without adjusting the cable, fixed pad, squeeling disk, lack of stopping power... and the feel of using a dead fish in the spokes for brakes... (Actually I think I would prefer a dead fish over disk brakes.... see a theme here... Anyway... maybe an idea for a video... as you are the kings of the affordable bike viewers... compare feel & stopping power of a cable disk vs Y-Brake. Interesting fact... the bike above... $399.... Flip those 9's and you get the $366 (Actually $580NZD but I converted for us) that I paid for my 2nd hand bike... What did I get 2nd hand... a 2010 Giant Faith 0 with 180 f/r XT sisk 7" all round, totem 40mm forks and ... ok oil soaked disk pads, no dropper, a broken rear spoke, dead freehub (stated in the sale) and dead rear shock (NOT noted in the sale)... All repaired with Zoom Tequila 100mm dropper for $756... but you can see what I put it through in my videos... (ok a little mediocre... but is the above fine for 1m drop to flat with an old mediocre pilot...)

    Here’s an idea for you Jeremiah dropper post on the Kent bike run your dropper cable for the rest of the cables go as you come out to bongo over the phone with the crank and bring it back tire is a little hole run the cable up and go home to the back of tube or the seat post and then run the cable into the seat post

    I think wolf dad is a bit "hot" because the weather. I mean, I can see you sweat over there. However, for the price tag, can't expect hydro brakes for $399. It is still a good deal for the parts on there.
