As is obvious from my YT channel I am a ZZR 1100 rider and love this machine. Welcome back to the great machine mate. Agree with all your comments. It wasily keeps up with, and often leaves behind the latest bikes. I love the look on their faces when you stuff it up the inside going into a bend. Some simple suspension changes make a huge difference. The cheapest, and best being rotating the concentric adjusters 180 degrees. Changes the steering head angle and makes turn in very precise without negatively impacting straight line stability. Enjoy your D model mate. I will subscribe to see the ZZR updates.

Thanks for the positive vibes, I'll look into that concentric hack. I will get it to tip in a bit quicker and was going to try the usual bring the fork tube up 5mm or put a 60 series tyre up front but both will throw out top speed stability. Thanks, research time. 👍

I had a 78 Z1R in high school (the 80's in America waa rules by Harley, anything else could be purchased for a song), and sitting in our library, I remember reading Cycle World's review of the zx 1000R, in Stealth black, and also fell in love. Those early 1000 & 1100 models had such timeless styling. The minimalist, organic styling utilized today just doesn't hold a candle to the fighter jet stance of these classics. I'm so glad to be able to own one of these beauts, got myself a 96 that I absolutely love and will never get rid of. I had a big wipe out day one of ownership when a completely oblivious driver blew threw a red light, ended up totaling her, but I rebuilt her over a year on my own and that helped me grow a true attachment to the bike. Since then, I've had new carbs and a single exit thrown on her, and a tune that I'm not the biggest fan of, she'll build like crazy until 5800 then die off, then at a hair under 7 she'll shit her pants and leave you behind her. Absolutely wild ride but feels weird as all sin to be rocketing up to hwy speeds just for her fall over herself and then kick you in the teeth, and BAM you've double the legal limit withing an onramp. truly crazy experience that words do no justice.

The rear tire was enormous and the journalist reviews had me pining to ride that “blastwave of an endless explosion!” Now I have a clean ‘91 and it is such a great bike-quiet, smooth, comfortable, and enough low down power to keep you entertained and a top end that will land you in jail.

I couldn't agree with your review any more. I bought my first ZX-11 in 1994 while stationed in Germany. As a young guy, I ruled the autobahn on what was then the King of the Road. In 2003 I blew the engine on the autobahn and she literally caught fire. I missed that bike so much. Finally, at long last, I bought another one - a 1995 that I drove 740 miles on to get it home. The very second I test rode it, all those familiar feelings came back. I'll never part with the bike!

This bike is like being strapped to an Apollo rocket when its nailed through the gears but it does it with stability and ease. That acceleration was mindblowing.. It is stable when moving but stall it and drop it and you might not get it upright without help especially on an incline . Spares were cheap and easy to get. They didnt call it the licence loser for nothing. modern traffic jams and speed cameras every mile ruled it out for me but great as a motorway cruiser. Oddly Im on a 95 Bandit now that I restored great bike with enough power for me

Lol........I purchased the bike with Blown crank bearings, and the bike came with a Spare Bottom End.........so I dropped the engine out of the bike, ripped off the "C" heads, and bolted onto the newer "D" block.....literally DIRECT fit....No modifications at all....... The Only thing different, was I had to extend 2 wires from the Ignition Advancer, because the "D" wires were too short and wouldn't reach the harness.....I believe I used the Head Bolts from "my" Top End, instead of the Donor engine........also had to use "my" Sub Frame......donor engine came with Sub Frame attached to the motor, so figured that would save time! Nope.....holes wouldn't line up! These bikes were hand built......so some Frame stuff isn't plug and play!!

I purchased a 1996 ZZR600 for $4,000 AUD about 4 months ago ( from a bike dealer) 41,000 kms on the clock and the dealer had put new Pirelli tires and a new chain plus a service, goes like a rocket, now I am thinking about a larger ZZR like a 1100, or 1200 or yes I know it is called ZX14R but even so just watching the prices. Just a little bet my little 600 would give the big boys a run for their money

I am in the UK and bought a 1990 C1 in 1992 as I couldn't afford a new one when they came out. I took a demonstation bike out when they first came out and took it to the max, they thought I wasn't coming back when I finaly returned it. It was supposed to be about a 15 minute ride but I was gone nearly an hour to get to the right road to do it. It was my local shop and I had bought from them before. A few years later I managed to blow the big ends in it after it overheated and chucked some water out, not sure why it did that. I bought an engine from a breakers but couldn't get the engine bolts out, the head snapped off the bolts, I tried heat etc. As I had 2 young kids and a company car I left it and the years took it;s toll, I still have it in bits. I saw a very cheap D1 on ebay 3 years ago (£750) that needed a little work but was usuable and legaly on the road. I soon found out there must be a hundred minor changes as very little from the C1 would fit it. The D1 had a very worn tyre and the C1's tyre was new but had been sitting over 10 years. I tried to swap the rear wheel and found it wouldn't fit so swapped the tyre over and found they were different profiles but it fitted the wheel. The D1 had a bent clutch lever and that was one of the few things that fit from the C1. The D1 stands me in after a new battery and a few odd bits under £1000 not including the normal wear and tear stuff like brake pads and discs. Speaking of which I put the discs from the C1 on it to pass an MOT and they were a few mm smaller but it passed. I bought new discs later. It is a heavy bike and because of that I don't use it much for popping out on. I keep thinking I should get a lighter bike but then I ride it again and say..... maybe later.

@@CompleteRider The XX had better factory brakes and also had linked braking however I had modded mine w a Gen 2 20212 entire Busa front end. The XX motor was perhaps a tad smoother. As far as design I would say the XX has the edge but the ZX11 is growing on me. For some reason the ZX11 might have a bit more motor but all things aside they are very equal overall. The XX had nice mirrors w integrated signal lights . Yep, here in Australia we had ZZR and ZXR etc. Seems mainly North America used Ninja. I've got to admit I like ZZR better but I suppose it's what you are used to? Maybe they didn't like the US pronunciation ZEE ZEE R? F**king great bikes whatever you call them! Ride safe and Subscribe!

I'm a bit confused but I suspect you are referring to the pronunciation of the letter Zed vs Zee? In Australia, New Zealand, the UK and most of Canada it's pronounced Zed. In the US or anywhere that has grown up watching Sesame Street it's pronounced Zee. As I live in Australia, I therefore used Zed although I do refer to it as a Zee X1 Ninja for our American friends, which is how it was marketed in the US. I home this clears it up, although I never ever expected to be an English teacher!

I have a D1, still a great engine but the suspension is terrible by modern standards.

Yes I do agree that the suspension is lacking, I'm going to re-build, re-valve and re-spring my D7 front and replace the rear with a affordable probably YSS. I'll do a video on it when it happens. It will be better but nothing will make it a modern bike. I love the fact that you have to man handle it around the twisties though. It certainly makes you appreciate how far we have come. Ride safe and Subscribe.
