    I've seen on KZread all kinds of conversions (bus, truck/topper, van, etc...) but several months back I saw an ambulance conversion with all of its built in systems (AC, electrical, Heating, insulated, etc...) and their built rugged, all's left to do is some planning, maybe move stuff around and build the few things that make it useful, fits your needs and style. ;-) In short (Not!) if I was into camping, being away in nature, I would do the conversion on a 4WD unit (search and rescue?).

    I have many questions about the build. I guess the biggest it how did you waterproof all the diamond plate seams? Where the diamond plate meets the factory steel how did you weld it? The front overhead bunk, the exterior side panels, did you just use some sort of strong glue or did you robot/bolt the diamond plate onto the frame? I love what you did. That’s one must for me, standing height. I’ve worked out of contractor vans and no way could I make a home that short.

    i believe he was using panel bond (special 2 part adhesive used all over in many new cars) it is very strong! The outer skin on most ambulances aluminum and that diamond plate was aluminum so they could weld wherever they thought necessary and panel bond the rest.

    After seeing several of these Ambulance conversions I'd do the same modifications as you but including getting a second identical Ambulance to add a four foot extension, add a second drive axle (3rd if it was 4WD?) and make the axles selectable into two (front?), four or six wheel drive , though with the extension the duel axles may need to be moved back for stability. Between the extension, lift and over cab it would be great(er). ;-)

    Look at getting a 5 ton rescue truck. You will have more luck finding rear axles you are looking for. I have never seen the set you are looking for in a regular truck body. I have seen that with an air ride trailering axle but a powered axle.

  • @TairnKA

    @TairnKA

    That would be an interesting conversion. Good luck. I didn't see online any rescue trucks with enclosed boxes, maybe if you can get just a couple ambulance boxes and mount them to the frame? A good compromise. ;-)

The person typing was using a desk top keyboard. For older people it is more easy to read the caps at times. It’s funny when I ask some to write their name down on paper. Smart ones use cursive. Dumb ones print. That is how I start a job interview. Did they follow my directions. This one question weeds out over 90% .
