we RAISED the roof in our ambulance conversion - DIY expedition vehicle

Hola amigos!
We've missed you! Life got really b u s y between jobs + the conversion that we couldn't keep up with videos, but don't worry - we recorded it all and are super excited to start sharing it with you!!!!
Starting with this TALL project: Our Roof Raise!
The original interior height of the ambulance was about 5' feet 9" inches and although we are not the tallest people and could have managed without doing one we said we wanted a challenge, so here we are!
A big thank you to Kim + Ethan from @justanotherskoolie for all the tools, help and encouragement!
We love your questions, comments and just hearing from you! Drop us a line in the comments or send us a line at: growingslowandwild@gmail.com

First, and so far only, roof raise I've seen on a Campulance. Nice. That's the biggest issue IMHO of an ambulance build. Nice solution.

Thank you so much Tom! Couldn’t agree more, so many of these trucks are great but too short. Very happy with how it turned out. Thanks for watching!

We have been doing research on raising our roof on our ambulance that we just purchased. This is by far the easiest, cheapest, and quickest way to raise the roof! We are definitely going this route and are going to pretty much do exactly what you guys did!

So happy Zack can have that extra head space (mohawk space). Living in a small space definitely has challenges and I'm joyous stooping over is not a factor in your lives. Great progress on your ambulance build!!!

I would have put a bladder under the roof so that it could be a water catchment if boondocking and it rained you would have had water.

This looks awesome! How stable has it been on the highway, and how waterproof is it? I'm thinking of doing a similar thing for my ambulance!

Thank you!! More stable than any of the other methods we’ve seen since it’s a solid piece of wood! We waterproofed the wood from both sides, but it was extra since we tucked the metal under the roof on the top and on top of the wood in the bottom, it’s very very unlikely for water to get in only if there would to be damage to the roof itself!

Great point! We tried coming up with something for the bus but didn’t encounter rain enough in the road to make it a priority, sometimes we would take out one of our water tanks and collect it that way!
