Over the last 3 months I turned this 4x4 ambulance into a custom RV.

one of my favorite van conversions I've seen. You could make that extra seat with storage under it a compost toilet spot. Plenty of room for one under a flip open compartment on top.

I've seen on KZread all kinds of conversions (bus, truck/topper, van, etc...) but several months back I saw an ambulance conversion with all of its built in systems (AC, electrical, Heating, etc...) and built rugged, all's left to do is do some planning, maybe move stuff around and build the few things that make it useful, fits your needs and style. ;-) In short (Not!) if I was into camping, being away in nature, that would be the conversion I'd do (4WD Ambulance). Good work and enjoy (great idea for the entrance).

Fricking gorgeous. I’m convinced an ambulance is the way to go for van life. The amount of storage is amazing. I’m hesitant about gas mileage though. My social security is about half of poverty level... but I’m rich in spirit and have a fabulous dog. Lol. Maybe tow another tiny vehicle for getting around once your parked somewhere - well, more will be revealed! Great job. Mad skills. As a 70 year old woman I’m not afraid to tackle anything necessary but I’m realistic about how much skill it takes to do the kind of work you did. BTW- love the fixed bed.

Completely impressed because not only did you pull off a big, comfortable bed but you didn't seem to sacrifice any storage or living space. man, that thing is COMFORTABLE! I'm glad you have a 7.3 but it was the first year of the turbos, right? I hope that holds up for you but it's low-miles and being a 4x4, shoot, I'd drop a "new" diesel in that thing in a second. My wife and I just got an LAFD 2008 E450 ambulance and drove it down there to Cabo. You just gave us tons of ideas, man. If you come to Baja, please reply to this and I'll do what I can to help.

This is pretty cool, I can understand how EMTs and Paramedics probably wont like the Ambulance idea but, if you try to see pasts its history and take the perspective as it being a vehicle, it offers quite some space, maybe not as long as a U-Haul or mini truck, but it does essentially has the box-bed pros. I could totally imagine adding a ladder on one side for roof access, add a solar panel on the front bit and counter weight it with a roof rack that has attachment points for roof cases. Perhaps as someone else suggested, spare wheel mount or the ability to hang up a bicycle on the rear doors via that said roof rack. (I have seen some MAN truck conversions whom some people had made a deconstruct-able bike rack.) The side and front emergency lights though, Why not put a dimmable LED system in it so they could work as camping scene-lights, with colored variants you may even be able to make the light be warmer or colder in tones? Possibilities are endless for these vehicles, you can always catch ideas from existing vans, trucks and even boats (some boat parts can be cheaper too!).

Yes the shower is nice why no toliet. Would put under that left seat next to bed. The out side storage is amazing. I have ok to buy one 2005 Ford Diesel. But has a issue with the electrical to back area. It had head gasket issues 2003 to 2007 had them. It is built like a tank. I like some of his inside homey features but I would not take it down so far inside. I like his outside water bottles. It's all about money and how crafty you are. Anyone who has advice live to hear.

A sink as an entry step and a shower pan, genius! Why didn't I think of that? Superb conversion, very impressed with your build skills. Cedar lined closet, what luxury! What do you get for mpg and how fast can you drive this van? Going to Alaska is going to be costly for gas, isn't it? I have a Class C and its too slow with 65 mph max, and only 10 mpg on gas. I think ambulances are also gas guzzlers but may drive faster. Do you have a diesel or gas engine? I like the solid build and pre-wiring and installed cabinets on an ambulance.

I am two slow months into a 1998 E450 4x4 ambulance build out. It will not be home so a bit of a different approach, but many similarities as well. I lived on a boat for 4 years alone and for two years with my wife and two teenagers. I am able to take a lot of ideas from that space and apply it to the ambulance. Looking at getting a video series started soon. One of the reasons I went with the van chassis was length. It is significantly shorter than the truck base and has a walkthrough.

Hey man, really awesome build. Interested in seeing what you feel could be changed after living in it for awhile longer. One thing though, you should really get rid of the outside decals man. As an EMT, it might confuse people who are sick and injured and they might end up banging on your door in the middle of the night thinking they're about to be helped. Just a thought. You could always have a wicked paint job or maybe something more stealthy, but unless you plan on administering emergency care, best to not look like an ambulance.

Cedar closet will make your girlfriend very happy! All you need is a toilet with some privacy for your GF. That seat under the countertop, with a curtain pulled around in a circle would do the trick. Ceiling mount curtain. This is such a nice build! Very functional with the garage, and cozy. Looks like a home. I wonder what mpg you get on this rig. Do you also find the weight of the vehicle an issue when traveling? Must be a gas guzzler. What sort of existing insulation do you have in this ambulance? How does it handle in high winds and over dirt roads - a lot of swaying and vibrations or are you okay? Do you need to add leaf springs or improve the suspension and struts?
