John Wycliffe: The Morningstar | Full Movie | Peter Howell | Michael Bertenshaw | James Downie
John Wycliffe is a dramatic biography of the life of the 14th century scholar and cleric who translated the Bible into English for the first time. Wycliffe found himself in the middle of religious, political and social conflicts. An Oxford scholar, one of Europe's most renowned philosophers, John Wycliffe was a defender of English nationalism against the power of the pope and a champion of the poor against the injustices of the rich. John Wycliffe taught that God's forgiveness cannot be bought with indulgences. John Wycliffe preached that the only true authority is the Word of God, and the Word could only be understood by all if the people could read it in their native tongue. "John Wycliffe" captures the trials and heroic struggles of this significant man of faith - the "Morning Star" of the Reformation.
Director: Tony Tew
Writer: Douglas McIntosh

Remember… the fourth commandment of Exodus 20:8-11 KJV is reminding us of Genesis 2:2&3. God never changed Sabbath to sun day. Roman emperor Constantine did in 321 A.D. after generations of Christian persecution. They will soon present sun day rest by Force of law as the “ solution “ for all the world’s ills. Don’t be deceived Jesus said. Jesus is our example and He kept the seventh day sabbath!

@@patriciacole8773 Please hear me out. John 5:18 (KJV) Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. Mark 2:24-28 (KJV) And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful? And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him? How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him? And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. The Sabbath was a SIGN strictly between GOD and the JEWS. Let's look at what the Scriptures say, not feelings and opinions and emotions. While you’re reading this, please keep these Scriptures in mind: “He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him." - Proverbs 18:13 (KJV) “A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke." - Proverbs 13:1 (KJV) “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.” - Proverbs 12:15 (KJV) Now, the Scriptures: Exodus 31:12-18 (KJV) And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you. Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed. And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God. Ezekiel 20:12 (KJV) [Speaking of Israel] Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them. Ezekiel 20:19-20 (KJV) [Speaking to Israel] I am the LORD your God; walk in my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them; And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God. It is clear in these verses that the LORD is talking to the Jews, and he established the Sabbath as a SIGN between him and the Jews. The reason why he did this is because the Jews require a sign according to the Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1:22-24 (KJV) For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. Now, this is not to say that Christians are forbidden to keep the Sabbath, you may do so, and it is a good principle to do so, but it is most certainly NOT a requirement. The New Testament teaches that keeping the Sabbath is a LIBERTY ISSUE (meaning it's up to you; if you want to keep it you can, and if not, you don't have to): Colossians 2:16-17 (KJV) Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. Romans 14:1-9 (KJV) Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs. Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him. Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand. One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks. For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself. For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living. We as Christians are not required to keep the sabbath. It is the ONLY commandment not carried over into the New Testament for a Christian. And if you're one of those people who believes that Christians who don't keep the sabbath are not saved, then I have some more Scriptures for you: Galatians 2:16-21 (KJV) Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid. For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God. I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. Acts 15:1-11 (KJV) And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved. When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question. And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren. And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church, and of the apostles and elders, and they declared all things that God had done with them. But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses. And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter. And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they. Galatians 3:10-14 (KJV) For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Titus 3:5-7 (KJV) Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

@@patriciacole8773 Paul is our apostle. He is apostle to us, the believers in this the "church age"...the church age has been since Jesus resurrected. We are told to follow his, Paul's example. (Paul even says of himself, follow his example) We live by faith, not signs and wonders. Believers in this church age are of "the Kingdom of God"..spiritual. The sabbath was a sign. Signs are for the Jews. Jesus, a Jew came to His people, the Jews. Mathew, Mark, Luke and John, prior to the resurrection of Christ our Lord are Old Testament writings. New Testament begins "after the death of the testator"...Jesus. Even though those books are called..the gospels, Paul, our apostle, tells of the true gospel for one to save their soul from Hell...1 Corinthians 15:1-4. The sabbath is not a commandment reiterated to us as followers in the church age. Jesus Himself is our sabbath rest. We rest in His finished work on the cross. Any works we do, they are from loving and serving Him...not to get saved or stay saved. After the rapture, Jesus will judge our works at the Judgement Seat of Christ, giving or not giving rewards and crowns. The sabbath will be re instituted when Christ returns and reigns for 1000 years here on earth. The millennial reign is the "Kingdom of Heaven", a literal, ..physical ..Kingdom here on earth. As already stated, by above commenter, but so very important...to study and rightly divide the word of God. So many false beliefs come from putting a verse, or doctrine, in the wrong time period, or applying same to wrong people. All of Bible is FOR us. Not all the Bible is TO us. God bless you...

Oh dear friend! Please. Pray and consider the fourth commandment of Exodus 20:8-11 KJV and Exodus 31:12-18 is reminding us of Genesis 2:2&3. God never changes. God never changed Sabbath to sun day. Roman emperor Constantine did in 321 A.D. after generations of Christian persecution. Their current goal is to present sun day rest by Force of law as the “ solution “ for all the world’s ills. Come out of her My people. Jesus is our example and He kept the seventh day sabbath. Don’t be deceived Jesus said. My favorite yt ministry is Midday Power Surge with pastor Andrew Henriques! Posts most days.

His obedience led to others' understanding "why" they believe " what".they believe. I am a recipient of His work. If not for God's Word I would still be blinded following man made religion. 🙏 His Spirit set me free. Without God's Word my prayer life could have been shallow and dull. Paising Dr. Wycliff and Jan Hus for presenting the truth of God's Word that brought so many salvation of souls worldwide 🙏 including mine

Please don't praise men, but be thankful. Yes I too am thankful for powerful and strong men of God like Dr. Wycliff, Jan Hus and many others who stood for their faith without wavering. Great is and will be their reward in heaven. Matthew 5:10-12 kjv 10. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. 1 Peter 5:10 - But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. James 1:12 - Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. Romans 12:12 - Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; 1 Corinthians 10:13 - There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. John 16:33 - These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Have you don't see Moses and Elijah? where do they comes from with such glory? from the grave ? no In the book of revelation, we see some of our brothers who were beheaded for their testimony of Jesus Christ, their souls where under the heavenly Altar and they speak , asking to God to revenge their murdering , and God said to them to wait a little. Read this: ( and they cried with a great voice, saying, How long, O Master, the holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?) Our brothers in Christ Jesus are all alive in Heaven, do we contradict the Bible? Our body will be buried and decayed in the grave, but our souls are with The Lord, ans one day God will gives us a new Body suitable to Our new eternal Home God bless you Patricia.

Wycliff was a man so devoted with love for Jesus and God the Father even as the apostles of Jesus Christ. Such a man whom God raised up to be the first believer who had a church fully against him for desiring man to have the word of God in their hearts and to love and serve Him. Today, denominations have fallen away from the sincere word of God. They have false prophets and teachers as much a destruction of God's word as the catholic church, even to this day, ensnare the hearts of man to know the Living God.

These are the real “Saints” - Luther, Wycliffe, Tyndale, Hus. May the Lord have mercy on their souls and may they all enjoy everlasting bliss in the Presence of the Lord and God the Father for eternity. We are placed in deep debt.

Thank God for a Godly man like this so we could read the Holy Bible and apply it to our hearts and know our Lord Jesus deeper. And that His Father is our Father in Heaven . we praise God for making this possible. And one day this b Very thing may happen therefore we ought to take a diligentance in learning the scriptures and writting them upon our hearts. Be strong men and women of God . stand tall in the Lord the mighty Lion of Judah and Roar for our Lord roar out the scriptures far and wide let them ring out amongst the people . for they are precious. God go with you and proclaim these Words of our Lord. Fight the good battle of faith Lay hold to eternal life in Christ Jesus. Cherish His words .in Jesus dear Name. ROARRRR!!!!!!!

While the production cannot hold a flame to those of these days, the commitment to apparent accuracy is greatly appreciated. I was also pleased to hear one of my other heroes of the pre reformation days, Johannes Huss. After watching this film you should be able to answer all or most of the following questions: 1 - Why was John Wycliffe called The Morning Star? 2 - Why is John Wycliffe, in trouble with the Pope and the church? 3 - What does an Indulgence seem to be? 4 - "Doctor" is mentioned several times. What sort of Drs. are these? 5 - What sort of things did the "Church" sell? 6 - Did Wycliffe seem to believe in Salvation of infants by Water Baptism? 7 - What do Fireflies have to do with the souls of people? 8 - Who are those who had gone to the aid of John Wycliffe in his trials against the RC Church? - a - b 9 - Who gave great respect to the common friar/preists taught by the RC Church for their knowledge of scripture? 10- Who was Pope(s) during Wycliffe's ecclesiastical troubles? 11- What is Transubstantiation and did Wycliffe uphold it? 12- When was Transubstantiation introduced into the RC church according to John Wycliffe? 13- T/F Wycliffe was always hated by his adversaries and always a comfort to those who stood with him? 14- Did the common people seem to have a kinship with John Wycliffe? 15- With what great University was John Wycliffe affiliated? 16- Who was another John whose work followed John Wycliffe's ? 17- T/F JW strongly supported The Peasants Revolt due the the injustices and abuse of the common people. 18- What did JW do after being dismissed from being a Professor at the University? 19- The "The Language of Learning" of the RC Church was Latin. How familiar were most of ... - a ... the pastors with Latin? - b... the Common People? 20- From what language was Wycliffe translation made? (Trick Question?) 21- According to John Wycliffe ... ... who has the responsibility of a person's soul and action and responsibility to GOD? 22- What happened at John Wycliffe's 3rd trial? 23- T/F John Wycliffe was burned at the stake for his work.

I’m watching the scene with the woman and the fireflies etc, thinking about how years ago I would have just seen superstitious people for believing in ANY supernatural anything - both the woman and Wycliffe. But now I know they were more advanced spiritually and philosophically and with common sense than modern scientific materialists, who are the true ignoramuses to believe there is nothing but matter. No spirit, no soul, no consciousness. Lol. Thank God He freed me from that stupidity and thank Christ He saved me!

The Catholic Church has sentenced many True Believers of Christ to death. What will they say when they stand before Him! As Christ said "Insomuch as you did it to the least of these...You did it unto ME"!

"Experts" now say that the RCC is responsible for killing about 50M people, including Christians and Jews, throughout history. Others also now say that about 70% of Europeans who came to North America, the new world, were fleeing persecution from the RCC. A leopard doesn't change its spots. The pope has been making the rounds, spreading lies such as, "The Reformation is over" (2017). He is part of the Council for Inclusive Capitalism and this past December, stated that he was in favour of a universal basic income. Soon, this "lamb" will speak like a dragon and, with the US, force the world to worship it and obey it. Revelation 13.

When he rejected the Transsubstantiation, Wycliffe ignored early Christians sacrificing their lives for the Eucharist and the words of Christ- this is My Body. Wycliffe was a heretic that led people from the flawed but true Catholic Church.

@@dennispaulsmith6728 The eucharist was a Passover meal. Only meant for two days out of the year. You dont have Eucharist every single week. That is blasphemy and a mockery of the Moedim that the New Testament told us to keep. One needs to learn the context written in the Scriptures that the only time the Eucharist was done was during the Passover meal. If you missed the first Passover as the Torah states then you get a chance at the second Passover meal at another prescribed date so one would not be left out of the congregation. its a passover meal with a Jewish wine and bread prayer.

Fascinating. Several memorial moments. "They have no regard...they care only for conformity and obedience...", best line, of many, in the movie (49:46); reminding one of contemporary times (640+ years later!). Thanks for posting.

Fascinating story of a man who changed the world, sola scriptura is what he brought to the masses, and so many followed in his footsteps. Jesus Christ Our Lord he who is the word of God now in our day can be found in almost all languages.
