Martin Luther: A Return to Grace | Full Movie | Padraic Delaney | Gerharde Bode

Ойын-сауық

The great drama of Martin Luther’s life comes alive in this vivid portrayal of the penniless monk’s quest for truth-a quest that would re-shape the church, and the world.
Martin Luther triggered a seismic upheaval that rocked the western world in the 1500s-with an impact that continues to reverberate to this day. The great drama of Martin Luther’s life comes alive in this vivid portrayal of the penniless monk’s quest for truth-a quest that would re-shape the church, and the world. When I was a child I was raised Methodist. By the time I was 14 I was a full blown atheist. Now 26 years later I find myself coming back to my faith. Watching this documentary has been a part of that journey. I turned my back on God, but he never turned his back on me. Christ is king!

Following Jesus is for service, not salvation! That's a lifetime of works. Saving repentance is realizing that you are a sinner deserving of God's just punishment in Hell and turn (repent) from whatever you trusted in before, if indeed you trusted in anything; to trusting in the person and finished work of Christ alone for salvation.

Hi, I work in NYC and with the vaccine mandate I'm facing unemployment on Dec 27th 2021. I was led to this video I believe by the Holy Spirit. Today, instead of spending the day with my wife and kids as I would like, I have to put in time doing biblical research on how to defend my faith and trust in God to be my defense and deliverer during this pandemic as I appeal for religious exemption. The Holy Spirit brought this to my remembrance, "the just shall live by faith", then Psalm 91 and Hebrews 11. And so I'm here, drawing strength to defend my faith in God in writing to my employer and the State of New York. One might say so much weighs in the balance, loosing the means to provide for my family, for the Christian families in Pakistan that I have committed to supporting as well as other commitments of compassion that the Lord has laid in my hear. By the grace of Jesus Christ I will stand in faith, the Lord's will be done, Amen.

Excellent point. I was raised in a Pentecostal church that taught that you could lose your salvation. This gave the pastor substantial mind control over the congregation. The images of hellfire and damnation were very graphic and I never felt safe; always wondering if tomorrow, in a moment of weakness, I might commit a sin (either a sin of commission or omission) and then die before having time to repent. Eventually, this frightening doctrine caused me to hate God and I became an atheist and very blasphemous. I have a friend who was taught similar things in the Church of Christ denomination. Predictably, she became angry and blasphemous also. I find Luther's doctrine of salvation by grace through faith in Christ alone very compelling and comforting. I can imagine also that the grace through faith belief would free you of the constant dread of being found unworthy and being sentenced to hell even after striving so hard to remain sinless and do good works. I would imagine also that the grace through faith belief would free you to do good works because you want to and not because you have to. I enjoyed this video about Martin Luther very much.

It was not merely Luther's own opinions that put him at Odds with the Catholic Church. One of the main catalysts was a digest he had done in the epistle of Paul to the Romans while he was in Rome. It was Luthers understanding of Scriptures and the counter-doctrinal and heretical activity of the Catholic church that led Luther to become a reformer.

I am so glad that he ended up discovering that he didn't have to punish himself to please God. The crucifixion of Jesus Christ covers all our debts and sins. This is one of the main reasons Jesus came to earth; to relieve us from tormenting ourselves, to set us free from the deceptive bondages of Satan, to give us the freedom to worship and gratitude to God. The ministry of the cross is valid for eternity. We can only imagine how many people got caught in the error of believing that our penitence can save us from our sins. OMG! The ridiculous hair styles, the useless self-flogging, the self-punishment, the torture of believing lies about God's character. May all those who are sincerely seeking the truth discover that the salvation of the soul only comes through the sinless and Divine blood of Jesus Christ. AMEN!

There are ministries (including some who people called “greedy“ when they’re actually not greedy, the people calling them greedy are the greedy ones because they never give anything to God, some people don’t think big enough for God, but you can do a lot more if you have the means, and there’s nothing wrong with having the means, and there’s nothing wrong with earning your own money and having nice things and also having a good ministry ; and the channels that have the main differentJesus movies do not monetize, either). For everyone who has ads, they don’t choose the ads themselves, but they do choose to monetize, and it does seem that they choose how much to monetize, because every 3 minutes is excessive for anyone. Some channels have none, some have one at the beginning, some just a few in a long video...and then there’re the every 3 minute crowd, like this one. And some people don’t pay for YT to not have ads because of their active role in truth censorship. People don’t want to support that.

"This is my body." I have long struggled with this. It is the truth, I've no doubt. When it is eaten by the disciples, the body of Christ is, in a sense, reconstituted in them. In this sense, we ARE the body of Christ. What a fine illustration he has given us. The bread, as all things, exists because WORD brought it into existence. WORD created the herbs of the field. More importantly, bread represents the whole word of God. When the Word lives in us, we are so much better as the body of Christ. Through the Word, we have come to receive the grace of forgiveness. Growing in grace, "I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus." Knowing this, I am desirous and strengthened to LIVE the will of the Father...by faith. Should I grow further in His grace, I will hear Him say, "Be ye holy, for I am holy." He has commanded it--certainly He has made a way? Yes, of course. BY GRACE. Now, then, there is the mystery of "the good part." Of this, one ought not to write clearly. It is covered and meant to be found at the feet of Jesus. I want to teach this, but the student must be known. I believe, "beware lest ye fall" applies here. The beginning of the response of God. The means by which Elijah outran horses. The grace to love one's enemies. But there is that warning--"Beware lest ye fall." We are born to seek the face of God, although the journey begins at his feet. Christ is seated on the Mercy Seat. His face is covered by the wings of cherubim. I think it is the honor of kings to seek his face. The sons of God have found him.

I was that enemy, and yet, He still loved me... God is love... Love is patient, love is kind, it is not proud, does not keep record of wrongs... And it says many other things. It is beautiful... Learning how to love the way I have been loved. He is the TRUE light of EVERY PERSON coming into the world... If He is that light in every single person, then, without question, I am to love them. The story of Martin Luther is amazing, how God was with him giving him lost truths of His Word. These truths were light for those people at that time living during the Dark Ages, during the PROTESTANT REFORMATION, and those same truths are light for us today. Starting with John Wycliffe of England, who was declared the "morning star" of the Reformation, there were so many brave reformers that God brought up in His light and opened to them these lost or hidden truths. Salvation by faith was one of the most liberating truths for those souls of that time, under the tyranny of the Roman Catholic Papacy.

The desire of self-justification is the cause of all the distresses of the heart. But he who receives Jesus Christ as a Saviour, enjoys peace; and not only peace, but purity of heart. All sanctification of the heart is a fruit of faith. For faith is a divine work in us, which changes us and gives us a new birth, emanating from God himself. It kills the old Adam in us; and, by the Holy Ghost which is communicated to us, it gives us a new heart and makes us new men. It is not by empty speculations, but by this practical method, that we can obtain a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. - Martin Luther, ~1515 AD (quoted in D'Aubigne's History of the Reformation)

Yea like Jesus needed a German to save his church...and Luthers message is do whatever you want, believe whatever you want, all you need is a book which can be interpreted and misinterpreted a thousand different ways, and you are your own pope, and that explains the mess that doctrines are in today. 1 Corinthians 1:10 I appeal to you, brothers and sisters,[a] in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. 11 My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. 12 What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas[b]”; still another, “I follow Christ.” (you can add Luther to this list).

@@nyworkernow we're beginning to agree. The west was built on Christianity in sooooo many ways. In a world where slavery was practiced by religious and non religious, it was the Christians that first abolished it. It's christians that advocated for separation of state and religion for the benefit of all. ALOT of the human rights declaration is borrowed from the bible . Christians were the first to coin equality of human beings because they believed God created us in his image. Before that the pagans used to value human life according to financial status Christianity is the most pro science religion and the only one that has been scrutinically fact checked and it has been found reliable with overwhelming archaeological and historical evidence backing up the bible. Just over half of scientists (51%) believe in some form of deity or higher power; specifically, 33% of scientists say they believe in God, while 18% believe in a universal spirit or higher power. Most scientists aren't even athiests 😂😂😂🤦. Historically, Christianity has been and still is a patron of sciences.[1] It has been prolific in the foundation of schools, universities and hospitals,[2][3][4][5][6] and many Christian clergy have been active in the sciences and have made significant contributions to the development of science Historians of science such as Pierre Duhem credit medieval Catholic mathematicians and philosophers such as John Buridan, Nicole Oresme and Roger Bacon as the founders of modern science.[8] Duhem concluded that "the mechanics and physics of which modern times are justifiably proud to proceed, by an uninterrupted series of scarcely perceptible improvements, from doctrines professed in the heart of the medieval schools".[9] Many of the most distinguished classical scholars in the Byzantine Empire held high office in the Eastern Orthodox Church.[10] Protestantism has had an important influence on science, according to the Merton Thesis, there was a positive correlation between the rise of English Puritanism and German Pietism on the one hand, and early experimental science on the other.[11] Christian scholars and scientists have made noted contributions to science and technology field] as well as medicine, both historically and in modern times. Some scholars state that Christianity contributed to the rise of the Scientific Revolution. Between 1901 and 2001, about 56.5% of Nobel prize laureates in scientific fields were Christians,[21] and 26% were of Jewish descent (including Jewish atheists). Modern historians of science such as J.L. Heilbron, Alistair Cameron Crombie, David Lindberg,Edward Grant, Thomas Goldstein, and Ted Davis have reviewed the popular notion that medieval Christianity was a negative influence in the development of civilization and science. In their views, not only did the monks save and cultivate the remnants of ancient civilization during the barbarian invasions, but the medieval church promoted learnings and science through its sponsorship of many universities which, under its leadership, grew rapidly in Europe in the eleventh and twelfth centuries. Some of today's scholars, such as Stanley Jaki, have claimed that Christianity with its particular worldview, was a crucial factor for the emergence of modern science.[45] According to professor Noah J Efron, virtually all modern scholars and historians agree that Christianity moved many early-modern intellectuals to study nature systematically By the way the shipwreck of Paul's was found exactlyyyy where Luke said there would be in the book of acts☺️ The consensus among contemporary scholars is that Luke, historian and theologian is indeed a careful, reliable recorder of history. In fact, over the years, scholars have asserted that Luke was mistaken about certain historical facts only to be proven wrong by archaeological findings. For example, many scholars saw Luke’s reference to Lysanias as the tetrarch (governor) of Abilene in 27 AD as a disqualifying error-Lysanias ruled Chalcis 50 years before; he was no tetrarch. An inscription found on a dig, however, later proved Luke right. One study from the early ’90s reviewed each of Luke’s references to physical places and found not a single mistake. It stands to reason that if Luke was assiduous enough to get the ancillary details correct, it’s likely he got the really big stuff-like Jesus’s resurrection-right as well. Classical scholar and historian Colin Hemer chronicles Luke’s accuracy in the Book of Acts verse by verse. With painstaking detail, Hemer identifies 84 facts in the last 16 chapters of Acts that have been confirmed by historical and archaeological research.” It is also important to note that interspersed throughout the Book of Acts are over 30 miracles. The thing that excites me about this fact is that Luke records these miracles without any special embellishments - they are recorded just like the historical accounts are with an eye to detail and accuracy. So, if one believes the historical accounts why SHOULD ANYONE dismiss the miraculous? I can only say that they have an anti-supernatural bias that is unrealistic.

A gift that was given to us at the cross, freely given to those who accept that Jesus Christ is the son of God who died for the sin of the world. Thank you for this content and your video. I understand this video is a couple of years old. I wish I'd have found it a few years ago. Even decades ago. I know God reveals things on his time and not ours. I was brought up as a Roman catholic. Jumped through all of the hoops growing up. Going into my teenage years. I turned away from it, because something wasn’t sitting right or felt right. It wasn’t until many years later. I finally came to understand why. Because the roman catholic church. Blended roman pagan ritualism with christianity. To come up with something acceptable that both fractions were agreeable on not to destroy the roman empire at that time. Throughout my early adult life I knew of Jesus but can’t say I didn’t do the best job in our relationship. He took care of me. More than I gave him credit and praise for. It was in my early 30’s when I'd say I really found Jesus Christ as my lord and savior. And started my journey seeking his truth. Tried most of the organized christian religions. Nothing really stuck or felt right. I don’t know why I never really looked into lutheran or protestant. Most likely my own knowing and ignorance. Not understanding the break from the catholic church. Like the mormons or the Jehovah's Witnesses. And not totally understanding catholic / protestant 15th/16th century English history. Between henry vlll -mary and elizabeth l. On my journey in the search for truth and understanding. a few years ago. I have seemed to find myself in pretty much the same place Martin Luther founded in the 1500’s and what he was teaching. . Without the fear of being burned at the stake. Thank you again. For the understanding of the man. And the movement. And confirmation in my faith. Peace and love

I admire Luther very much.He queried the Church's greed, corruption and its dominance in people's lives. He wanted the Bible to be vernacular instead of Latin so all classes in society could have access. He caused a revolution which was explosive and changed history.

What a wonderful presentation of Luther's life. It has given me a more sympathetic viewpoint for I have read of some of his less lovely attributes. He was a hero of the faith and was most important to the pursuit of, and the understanding of, the truth of God. Thank you so much.

A beautiful film, but in reality he was a bitter and anti-Semitic man, his legacy was hatred and all his life he talked about the extermination of Jews and also bequeathed to the Nazis the idea of the final solution, which is to burn the Jews of Europe, women and children in crematoria.

Really? Luther hated Jews and changed words in The Bible, do you think that is a good thing?..

What a beautiful movie about Martin Luther and his life of weaknesses and strengths....The freedom concepts he instilled as foundational principles were revolutionary for individual and religious freedoms.

Maybe you mixed up the order of things. He was just rediscovering what was given in the Scriptures and already so well compiled by St. Paul's writings in there. You really miss the core of everything. Secular effects were mere side effects as important they may be for us today in that realm.

Actually his greatest insights he penned in De servo which is about man's unfreedom in spiritual matters. But in days when Rome conspires again with other secular forces to steal secular but God given freedoms from everyone by Laudato Si etc. you are right to point out also the secular blessings that came from Luther.

Today protestant churches preachers are filthy rich, after all reading the Bible teaches one must give 10%. The Popes called it indulgences, maybe because a play by pay is an easy concept to understand. Money was, is and will always be the name of the game.

Watch the protestant university in Heidelberg, preachers from esp. South Africa are working there .. there is some movement back to the true Gospel, still small... We can just pray that God will bless all of it, and people will open their hearts for Christ.

@@ellieknol II am African and live in Africa. Here the R.C has been pivotal in helping the poor, building hospitals, schools, training nurses and teachers more than all other churches. I am not Catholic but I appreciate the work they do for the poor. What I have noticed is that protestant missionaries and organisations come to Africa to live lavish lifestyles. Yet I also appreciate that which they do and continuously pray for God to touch them and bring them back to the knowledge of himself. Instead of just blaming pastors , let's pray for them not to fall into temptation and to pray for the spirit of discernment in believers. to test the waters to stop going to church organisations that are just after amassing wealth.for themselves and their families. May the name of the Lord Jesus continue to be praised and preached for ever and ever
