The end of the Marine Biologist is, in my opinion, the finest moment of the entire series. I might like The Contest better as a complete episode, but the back and forth in the diner there...that's true gold, Jerry!

There were many great episodes in which different situations were playing out for the main characters and then tied together. Kramer's invention of the cologne he pitched to Calvin Klein was another hilarious one, especially when Kramer parades in front of Klein and his two assistants in his white briefs and then keels over while trying to lean against a wall.

I was young watching Seinfeld in real time, I didn't get the contest episode until many years later but I knew right away that the marine biologist was funny. All the "i'm Out!" lines are still rattling in my head though.
The real cherry on top is the way Kramers voice breaks slightly when he asks if it’s a titleist because he knows he’s guilty. Greatest cast of comedians ever.

I knew Jason's speech had been written the night before they shot it, but it was inconceivable to me that such a genius team of writers could write two separate beach-related stories for the same episode and not have thought of this plot twist that joined the two stories so brilliantly until the very last minute... the ending is so perfect, you'd think this would have been the plan all along. By the way, Jerry says people hated the Seinfeld finale, but I didn't... I thought it was great! And the Curb finale was also fantastic, the best two comedic shows of my lifetime!

I've heard this story a few times before, but never from Jerry. A show about nothing, yet it had everything.

However Jason's version of the story is that the monologue was written on the spot after the original ending didn't get enough laughs.

Jerry, just so you know, there are some of us who LOVED the Seinfeld finale. It was sheer brilliance to bring those four characters to account for their behavior and resurrect so many of those great “side-characters” throughout the years for their ‘trial’. THAT WAS GOLD TOO, Jerry! Both finales were nothing short of superb! You’ve accomplished a major goal here: a “show about nothing” IS, indeed timeless, so the laughs never wear out. I watch Seinfeld every night before hitting the sheets; nothing better than a good laugh before nodding off! Curb was great, - but Seinfeld….’best show of all-time’!

According to Jason Alexander, there is a slightly different version of events. Jason says that the episode taped in front of the studio audience and that the (location) scene on the beach was played to a tepid response. As scripted for shoot day, this was the end of the episode; as this played out, Jerry & Larry saw that this would not work as a conclusion. Jason was approached, asked how long he needed to prep for, "a page" of monologue, and he replied, "Ten minutes." Additionally, Jason related that this came at the end of a very long night of taping: their shoot schedule could push quite late as they collectively worked to solve the puzzle at hand.
I actually really enjoyed the Seinfeld finale. And then the connection 25 years later on curb. Absolutely incredible.
Freaking awesome, Rich! One of my favorite episodes of Seinfeld. Thanks!!
the fact that they found a way to bring back all of these secondary characters was amazing and a fitting tribute.
Amazing! I never knew the writing and acting of the Marine Biologist episode was just as serendipitous as the story in itself!
When George pulls out the golf ball, it has to be one of the longest laughs in TV history! So funny! Unbelievable they didn't have that part in the script originally.
Great show. Thanks for sharing!
Outstanding conversation!
Brilliant episode. Kramer was great as well in that scene at coffee shop
A completely different vibe on the "Seinfeld" show, but that scene with George's speech is right up there with classic "The Honeymooners", Sid Caesar and "I love Lucy" top moments! I remember watching that night and part of my soul is still on the floor!

I had heard an alternative version of this story from Jason that they ran the original last scene, it didn’t get the big laugh from the studio audience they were hoping for. So they went into a huddle and it was written on the spot and given to Jason to learn quickly.
When George pulled out the golf ball and Kramer said "What is that a titleist?" that's the most I laughed at any joke in Seinfeld.
