What a wonderful addition to my Jerry Lewis collection, by my favorite performing artist, since I was a kid. Thanks for sharing. I'm so glad a random search brought me here, or maybe Jerry did so himself.... 😀

I remember growing up and watching every 1 of those Jerry Lewis Telephons, 1 or 2 years I remember going out collecting for muscular dystrophy when I was a child. They are memories that I will never forget with my mom watching Jerry Lewis and all the stars on TV. But this was a fantastic production and I enjoyed it immensely ! So to the individual that put this up on KZread thank you ever so much

Jerry Lewis, sleepwalking during the performance -- and then absolutely kills with his vaudeville "Those were the Good Old Days" routine. Awesome! RIP.

There will never be another man like Jerry Lewis, Jerry Lewis dedicated his To muscular dystrophy. He may have been the devil in this production but he was an angel to all those children that he performed for and every 1 of those Telephons

I'm Australian and I find Jerry extremely funny. He has millions of fans all around the world, not just France. Perhaps you need to understand his kind of comedy to appreciate him. Whatever the case you not finding him funny does not mean that he isn't talented; it means you don't find him funny.

Wow, this production was really good. Just wish the video didn't suck so much. It kept freezing and I missed parts of great performance. Oh, well.

These updates of classic stage musicals never work. Have some respect. Do the show as written or don't do it. As for Lewis, I loved him when I was about eleven, but I outgrew him.

    What did they change?

  • @GeorgeWTush

They changed a lot. Musically and otherwise. They totally refurbished a show that was written at a different time when stage productions were physically far simpler. If you currently presented "Damn Yankees" as written, you would be laughed off Broadway. The first act has about 11 scenes. The second act has about 13 scenes. Scene after scene is short and performed in front of the curtain while the scenery is being changed. It does not work that way anymore and no one would sit still for it. This version of "Damn Yankees" retains all the fun of the original and takes advantage of all the advances in stage scenery.

remember "musical comedies are written; they're rewritten"- Stephen Sondheim. A musical is usually revived to bring new life to it and I believe that is what they have done here. Though it is still date, but there is still yet to be a new revival since. The last full Broadway revival of this was 1994. This production still holds up which is why no one has done it since.

I really never like Jerry Lewis's comedy. It's very juvenile and slapstick, but he is so funny as Mr. Applegate and especially his big number. However, I've seen him do drama and he really is a talented guy.

No, he's not. His comedy is juvenile and sometimes racist and offensive. His acting is all indication. There's a reason they've given AFI and Kennedy Center Awards to just about every decent actor who ever lived, and they NEVER thought to give one to him. He stinks.
