My God! Martin Short turned Jerry Lewis into a boggled straight man. In all the Glick interviews, I've never seen Short so frantically inventive with not a moment's let up. This is one for the ages.

Pretty rare to see Jerry left speechless by someone going even broader than himself. This is really cool...Short is an astounding talent.

I feel quite sure Short was a huge fan of Jerry when he grew up, so for him it was the moment of his life being able to "jazz" impro comedy with the King of TV.

yes and on the reverse, you can tell martin short is nervous having to do a double-act with the king of double-acts

This was like watching a renaissance artist painting a masterpiece in real time.

Done live with no cuts. Absolutely amazing. Normally he would shoot 40 minutes and use four. This was one non-stop joyride. And Jerry played it marvelously.

Martin Short is brilliant. He carried this entire interview without stopping once.

Martin Short was "on" this night, big time. He knew it was the chance of a lifetime to show off this crazy character to a comedy icon like Jerry.

Martin Short is just the greatest in the world. Right up there with all the greats. Nobody but him could make a force like Jerry Lewis laugh as hard as he did and give him the best compliment afterwards. Just fantastic.

At this point in Jerry's career, being funny was out of the question. The best he could muster was not being cantankerous for 5 minutes... I'm surprised he almost pulls it off here. Although there's a few times here he looked like he wanted to lash out, as expected.

How about that exit from Jiminy! The slowstep!

Man, Martin Short is beastly great here. What a tour-de-force performance. Holding court over the likes of King Jerry takes a real genius of performing art. Bravo.

Absolutely brilliant, both Martin Short and Jerry Lewis. I laughed as hard at Lewis's faces as I did Short's crazy improv.

Have never seen Martin Short so nervous. Can't say I'd blame him.

Props to Lewis for keeping it together for most of the interview. I don't think I could keep a straight face for even 20 seconds if interviewed by Jiminy Glick.

This is quite possibly the funniest Jiminy Glick interview yet, and that's saying a lot.

Martin is brilliant here...pulling all the stops to make Jerry laugh. I honestly think Jerry was perplexed but hugely entertained by Martin.

This is the only Jiminy Glick interview in which Martin Short actually broke up, nearly breaking character until he recovered. I love Jiminy Glick, and Jerry Lewis just let him shine.

Oh no, Martin did not back Jer in the corner :) Jerry let him do his thing because jerry is great and knows it well. He just gave that space to Martin whom was definitely super funny!

You could see Lewis trying half-heartedly to throw Martin Short off his stride. Can't happen.

I'm sure Martin worked hard on this before hand as well as using improvisation. This clip should be shown in University to those interesting in acting and comedy etc. What a tour de force. Congratulations Martin for an astounding performance!

Jerry's face is like a musician listening to the NEW notes of another musical legend. That's what I think :)

Short’s performance here was a glimpse of Jerry when he did live tv with Dean. Non stop brilliance at 100mph.

Genius 1 and genius 1a. Incredible, incredible performance by Martin Short. It’s amazing how Jerry Lewis knows how to be a straight man to the max. He let Martin Short do his thing. What a brilliant, brilliant interview. Two masters of the art of comedy, the subtleties, the “top the topper” funny format, again and again, just unbelievable!

I really love how Jerry Lewis put up with this crazy man, He was always so serious about being something of credit to the performing arts.

Jerry did the right thing, and played it straight. That made it funny. At 5:15 Short slips into his own JL impression.

“Because you both used Nair and that was the one way you got to know each other.” 😂 I’m amazed Jerry played along and let Martin do his thing. Good for him that he did. I could see Lewis thinking, “Holy shit, this little shaygits is funnier than me.”

Great stuff! Also great were the two gentlemen's actions towards the end of the skit. A worthy compliment by Jerry, which led to a respectful embarrassment by Marty - these two legends mastered the art of comedy. Thank you for sharing.

3:55 Jiminy slips a bit. Martin Short briefly appears obviously relishing working with the legend that is Jerry Lewis. I love it.

I am sure Jerry Lewis felt he was looking in a mirror. Jiminy Glick did a great mirror impression of the late and great Jerry Lewis. What an honour he had.

It was. In fact Marry did a bit, as Jerry at the telethon, in the early days of SCTV.

This is MASTERFUL! This might be the greatest comedic interview in the history of Hollywood!….1 legend dethroning the other legend! My goodness! This goes in the books! Sorry Abbot & Costello………but this bumped you off! 🫡🏆🎭

Glick is a friggin' roller coaster. Unpredictable and on his own rails. You can't really do much better opposite him than this. That jibe about "not really standing for anything at all" needed a response though. But that cut was so fast and so close to the end of the bit and the blade went SO deep.

BRILLIANT,that's all I have to say,Brilliant.

If you watch closely, Jerry Lewis mimics Martin Short's entire manic delivery. Watch Jerry's body language, his thoughts, mouthing of Short's word's, and the absurd improvisation as he tunes into Short. Que after que is followed by Lewis' mouth working out the bit.. He's trying to get a handle on the mania of Martin Short. It is similar to watching the great Billy Crystal keeping up with Robin William's energy. It's like swimming through the hot and cold watery essence of true comedy. True genius is resolved: it cannot be confined to a script by both artists. Martin Short: "I know 5 actors making 20 million off your act." We can all think of so many more. This is true comedic genius.

I saw that too. He had zero space to do anything but observe and- I agree- "try" Short's mannerisms on. Honestly the experience looked a little exhausting for Lewis!

Martin Short is hilarious. Seems, though, the older set Short's Jiminy Glick has "interviewed" (Jerry Lewis, Mel Brooks, as examples) don't entirely understand the Glick concept or know how to play along, which is kind of odd given the comedic genius of a Lewis or a Brooks. I think it's a generational thing.

Considering that Jerry Lewis spent his Lewis-Martin career as the laugh generator seeing him sitting there as the foil with Jimmy Glick was wonderful to see, especially since Lewis was so in tune with what was occurring. The only thing missing would have been Glick pull out a Lambchop puppet and have him ask Lewis to autograph it.

This was the first time I have seen this Glick episode. This may be the best of,all!

Jerry took awhile to realize that he shouldn't be doing the faces; that for the bit to work, he should have let Martin be the clown from the start, and for JERRY to play, surprisingly, the straight man. He got it before too long.

The whole Charles Nelson Reilly-Roddy Mcdowell story (both closeted gays in Hollywood) was told so quickly, with the "catering to" implication, that I doubt many people even got the joke. I think Jerry did, because of his amused expression. I'm glad Short is still successful in the business, but he ought to be way bigger, with his talent.

It's an in-joke. Jerry almost bursted into laugh. I wonder if he attended some of Roddy Mcdowall parties... and catered.😅 Probably not as he was already big star back in the 60s, but he knew what was going on, hence his amused expression.

He didn't! jerry let him do it. He let him have his moment because he has been there already! Jer is a legend he didn't need to prove anything to anybody! He proved that years ago!

at 4 minutes Short cracks breaks character but by then JERRY has been cracked twice by Short..i imagine it was tough to crack Lewis up!

First, let me say that I love Jerry Lewis. "The Nutty Professor" is one of my favorite movies, and the brilliant dance routine he performed in it never fails to crack me up. That said, it was clear to me that Jerry was out of his element here, and so he reverted to his tried-and-true mugging, which got some laughs but distracted from the bit.
