    So interesting. You can't swing a dead cat without bumping into another car show/blog/whatever that is perpetuating the latest Ferrari, Corvette, Porsche, BMW, Lamborghini, or Bugatti. I love these old car episodes that cover the culture as much and the here-today, gone tomorrow cars. And interviews with automotive icons Sir Frank Williams (what a gentleman) and Sir John Young Stewart are the best kind of icing on the cake. I wish someone would bring this format and level of automotive journalism back before it's gone forever.

    Despite the fact that the trade union wars are over, the British car industry is even less diverse today. Apart from all the brands sold to foreign companies: New TVR Griffith pushed back to 2020 (or 2030, who knows...), Marcos died after just 6 Marcos TSOs, ... there seems to be something suicidal about the British car industry. Which is really sad!

  • @realAlexChoi

    @realAlexChoi

    2 жыл бұрын

    TVR is quite sad, seems to just be incompetence on the part of Les Edgar and NewCo; spent way too much funding on the Rebellion LM team. The Griffith itself is fine, it’s a beautiful car in person and uses a reliable Ford-Cosworth Coyote V8, and is WLTP and EPA emissions certified. The car itself could go into production today if not for the leadership around it. Absolute shame.

    Nothing went wrong with the British Car industry. The British were the first Industrial country, they are also the first post industrial country. As for Toyota, The Japanese make fine motor cars why shouldn't British people drive them? What was your other point? Oh Yeah, if you think the countries infrastructure and maybe Britain, in general, is so bad why don't you do something about it instead of complaining?

  • @tomtalk24

    @@themysterysuk2097 The point being, the British didnt "invent" graphene. Nor imo is it a great discovery. Alternatives, you mean anything other than oil (steam, wind, electric, biofuel, whiskey) the list goes on. Think how rich Britain would be if we still had 20 of those car makers about on par with VW and the like. How many jobs would be on offer. How we would look on the world stage. I cant do much about it, the strikes were 40 years ago by lazy gob shites and the private schooled Sir' of management are long gone. I can only live with their incompetence, greed and bone idle-ness. 523 walkouts... really! Why, becuase they could. Sod anyone else. Far from a complaint, just proving a point... 3 points. EDIT: You should promote Britains accomplishments truthfully especially on a public forum, and accept its peoples failures with the loss of an industry, most of them in fact. Rather than dishing out false facts and claiming nothing went wrong.

    So, if a part of a car is British, the car is British, but if a part of the same car is from another country-say, the US-it’s still British. Right. I love the Top Gear trio, but they have claimed for years that the Ford GT-40 is British, despite being built with American money from an American company and with and American engine (the main reason for its success) and carrying the badge of an American brand. I realized the chassis and suspension work was largely done in the UK, but the fact remains. It’s like how they talk about “the War” as if they won it all on their own.

It wasn't until the 1980s that Vauxhall and Opel made *identical* cars, by which time the Vauxhall brand was too strong to be changed in such a key market. Vauxhalls were even sold abroad until around the same time.

    BL was turning out absolute sh!t cars in 1970! A mate who was a lawyer bought new Austin 1100 and it had so many faults of all possible types that he finally demanded from Lord Stokes in person after demanding to see "the boss", a replacement new car which was fault free or all his money back. He got a specially built 1100 with a number of extras and refinements which worked fine! Fact is though whilst management was poor, designs were weak and unimaginative, all of that could and would have been remedied, and it WAS the unions which destroyed the British car industry no matter what that bastard Red Robbo says today! I remember the bugger well from those times.

    McLaren F-1 the fastest car in the world in its day and it didn't need Quad Turbos to pass 230mph unlike the Bugatti. Not to mention can still leave the Bugatti standing at the start in a drag race.

    Sign on the times. When was the last time we had a good double act from footlights? You need people to write this stuff, and we've had no good come out of the private education system since the late 80s/mid 90s at a push. Either talent is no longer being produced or there are better things for talent to do with their life other than writing TV programs at a time when TV has no future. But like most Brits, blame someone else.
