Jeet Kune Do helped heal and re-balance my body and life after a massive injury. I am forever indebted to Sensei Lee & Guro Inosanto. If Bruce Lee had not had the courage to share and teach his wisdom of philosophy & the martial arts, my health could have easily taken a different turn. I am walking and confidently living my life as a very happy & healthy human being, in great part because of Sensei Lee's & Guro Inosanto's guidance in oh, so many ways!

@@dagaffer2269 you clearly haven't read The Tao of Jeet Kune Do, or perhaps you simply did not understand it. Bruce Lee authored it, while he himself had a horrible back injury & used it's principles to heal & get back on its feet.

I studied it under Sifu Jack Soderberg for two years. I was handed a white sash. After two years, seven days a week, I was told I had just begun my journey! It’s so important in martial arts to be humble. You can’t learn if you’re not humble this is true in life as well.

I really like that when Sefu was done using the Asain guy as an example, the Asian guy presented his respect to Sefu then backed out of camera frame as sefu was talking. This video is very well put together. ❤❤❤ I loved every second of it. Thank you for sharing this.

Jeet Kune Do means intercepting the fist/kicks. It's a free flowing water/air form, meaning it's formless. One must master all the traditional styles before you can even attempt to express yourself in Jeet Kune Do. Not many martial artists can do this. One, because not many has mastered the traditional forms. Two, because not many has freed their minds. Also, Bruce was extraordinary in his physical abilities so his Jeet Kune Do was extraordinary. Not many could do what he could do because they don't have the speed or power that he had. Other masters will have their own form of Jeet Kune Do like Dan and few others, which is nothing to take away from. They are great too but they will use martial arts forms that are most suited for them. Bruce used forms that was suited for him, which not many can do. My form of Jeet Kune Do would be mostly trapping with short punches and low kicks because I can't kick that high. But my upper body locks and throws would be my strengths, followed by pressure point hits and hits to critical areas like throat, abdomin etc...Does my form have limitations? Sure, it does. Because my range would be limited vs. Bruce who could stand 15 feet away and come at you like lightening. That's what made Bruce special. His physical abilities were like no other then and now.

I agree on a fighter developing a style to their own abilities. Some people have long range, some people are shorter with better stability and center of gravity. Some small some large, etc. Not every fighter would use the same style, and every fighter would have a weakness. One should draw from all the styles that work best for them. Ironically bruce lee wanted jeet kune do to always be evolving and changing and adding new things, taking old things out, and he wanted all his students to figure out their own perfect way of fighting. But it got turned into a "style" like any other, which is the ironic part. I'm trained in a derivative of jeet kune do, but i like to study other martial arts all the time, see things that i think i could add that would suit me etc.

You're acting like Bruce Lee was born with his physical abilities. It clearly says in the book ''Tao of JKD'' that being physically healthy and fit is a major fact about JKD as a whole, doesn't matter what form you yourself is going after or training.... You have to put in some sort of physical exercise in your regimen. It's completely ridiculous for you to say ''I only do low kicks because I can't kick that high''. Guess what? I wasn't able to kick high either, now I can. Do some stretching, do some research on side splits, etc etc. Even though I can techincally kick high, I would usually only do so to ''seize the oppertunity'' if you may, I would still do low kicks obviously.

Ive met Dan and have trained with him…he struck me as being a nice guy that knows how to pass on information. JKD is not a style…Bruces own words…Dan has always said that he teaches JKD concepts and its about each person finding their own truth…when you were training under Bruce Lee Lazaro and LMA UK, how did you find the training?…Dan expresses his JKD through Silat, Kali and a number of other arts…he is a good guy that inspires people to be better than they currently are…apart from talking shit on youtube, what have you accomplished in the martial arts?

And that's EXACTLY all JKD is. You're the first guy out of at least 50 videos that has accurately defined JKD. I can tell your info was from Dan too. Very well said...But just to add one thing...Its mostly a series of concepts (like you said) theories and DRILLS, which were put together by Dan and Lee in order to enhance specific attributes...When all completed, it will or can, enhance whatever system, or systems a person trains in...

That was a great clip. Really enjoyed it. Just odd to think that all the people, who were in Kung Fu/Black Belt magazine, when I was a kid, are like 80+ years old. I like hearing Inosanto talk about teachers. Some things, that you learn from 'masters' in spirituality, martial arts, you can't find any place else. These people have tremendous impact on higher level 'continuity' in terms of expression and maintaining a higher principle. if you have not taken a risk and gone to X location to seek help and teaching, you wouldn't know what I'm talking about. Course. If you go down the street and you have a studio, with a great master, you're luckier than most.

When he teaches, The Jun Fan KickBoxing portion is still there as well as the Wing Chun portion who many say Sijo Bruce moved away from towards the end by the way... Just because Sifu Dan has chose to expand a go beyond Bruce Lee does not make him wrong or his JKD any less REAL! (continued)

I won’t say my JKD INSTRUCTOR is any better, but I personally not seen anyone better than Richard Wood in Milwaukie, Oregon and I can tell you Richard was one tough Instructor to be a student of his. He didn’t accept just anyone into his school either. You had to stand in a Horse stance for 2 hours. If you stood up at any time you didn’t get in the school. I actually failed my first attempt to get in, partly due to a nasty car wreck I had gotten into a few months earlier that left me pretty weak. I went back after I got my strength back and tried again and got in the second time. I thought that be the hardest thing I have to do once I got in! Boy was I wrong! First think I learned is not to eat before any classes. Unless you enjoy getting sick? 😂 Richard didn’t teach you much the first year and worked more on making his students stronger and more flexible. So when he did start teaching the students kicks and punches they be strong and flexible enough to do the moves correctly! We still did traditional forms along with Richard’s other torture he make all students do! At the end of a 2 hour class it was all you could do just to walk out to your vehicle to go home and if you had a manual with a clutch that was another test in itself just to drive! 😂 a Richard followed Bruce Lees teaching very well and I have yet to see anyone do better. I know Richard came straight from China, but anything else I never asked him about? We didn’t use any safety gear except for a cup! Which after a few groin slaps and snap kicks to the groin you we’re glad you had a cup on! We also did a pole drill where one student swing a 10 ft long pole that had a little padding on the end but not much! It still hurt if you didn’t shift and duck or jump up in time before getting hit. Once in a while someone would get a black eye or other bruises. Incentive to get better! 😂 many students would quit in the first week if not the first day In some cases. Richard wasn’t any easier on women either! So women would stick around long either unfortunately! Richard also didn’t believe in belts. No matter how long or good you got, you never got a belt from Richard. He flat didn’t believe in giving out belts, for more than one reason too! Richard stated numerous times his goal was to make as many students as he could the very best they could be! Money wasn’t his goal, if you stuck it out for 4 years he teach you for free after that. You were expected to come to every class no matter what! Richard flat tell you to come to every class Or don’t come at all! Never seen a instructor more strict! Richard certainly didn’t like having to tell a student the same thing over and over! He might tell you twice, after that Richard usually showed you the painful way what you were not doing right! Remember a student once saying well practice makes perfect! But Richard corrected him saying NO! Perfect practice makes perfect! And Richard certainly pushed all the students to do everything perfectly every time! I can tell you I seen Richard fight many times and I never seen anyone faster or react quicker! Personally I would of loved to see Bruce Lee and Richard spar in a friendly match, I would of paid to see that! Richard now in his 80’s too I believe? He was in his 30’s when I started there and I was in my 20’s. I’m almost 67 now, so he’s probably hitting least 70 by now if not older. But I bet he’s still just as good as he was in his younger years if not even better! Unfortunately I haven’t seen Richard in years since I was told not to come back to classes since I missed a few classes having to work in my own business that unfortunately had to come first whether Richard liked it or not! But I wish I could of stuck with going to the classes. I have never been in better shape that’s for sure! Even though it was torture, I still miss the class!

As my JKD instructor use to tell us, the best way from not getting hit is not to be there when the punch or kick gets there! Reminds me of a funny story where this guy came in and challenged our JKD school. Naturally my instructor took his challenge on. The guy that challenged our school got frustrated cause whatever he tried to do to hit my instructor my instructor was already out of the way before the guy’s punches or kick’s could get near me instructor. Out of frustration this guy says what is this a school of cowards? Wrong thing to say, my instructor went after the guy with a vengeance at that point and it was the guy that challenged running away then! 😂 The guy that challenges the school said he thinks it’s time he leaves! Think he realizes he was outmatched completely and knew if my instructor really wanted to hurt the guy there was nothing he could do to stop it!

Right. Not secured on both ends by being braced but rather the board is actually dangling on one end, On top of that it's factually 5 inches thick, an impossible density, especially because it's not one solid uniform piece but five different pieces which is much harder (it's five 1 inch boards). Superhuman.

Master inosanto much respect 🫡 to you for your teachings and love for all of your students. But we all know that wing Chun in self defence I have seen wing Chun masters from China get destroyed by street fighters. It can be a base like Bruce said but having all styles be your styles.

The unsung hero. Not many knows about the story of Dato Meor Abdul Rahman the Pesaka Gayung Guru Master defeated Bruce Lee, because of Lee's arrogant. Dont get me wrong, i respect Bruce Lee but his cocky behaviour that time to challenge everyone in this world leads to his death somehow.

This is not what Bruce Lee was doing the last few years, before he passed away. Bruce was not fixated on the centerline, as in Wing Chun. Dan Inosanto chose not to follow the exact mechanical principals that Bruce developed. This is evident in his fighting posture, that does not resemble Bruce's. Most people are not going to put in the work it takes to get Bruce Lee like abilities. Dan Inosanto has stated, that he was never comfortable with the kicks Bruce showed him, so he went with Muay Thai round kicks. Dan's JKD Concepts is modified Wing Chun, Savate, Silat, Shootfighting,Boxing,Jui-jitsu,Kali,Muay Thai etc. If you learn all these arts, you will certainly be unpredictable, & able to move in many different ways ... that does not mean, you will move efficient, & you will not being doing Jeet Kune Do.

thats not the point of jeet kune do. Bruce had hes own style and he encourage i repeat encourage people to find their own comfortable fighting style as they learn moves. what Dan is doing is basically what Jeet kune do is. its not an ancient art its an art developed with different martial arts that bruce trained. and Dan is trying to passs on the knowledge that basically be open minded and learn and apply it to what feels best to you. Dan has many martial arts backgrounds which is good cause he can input some of hes knowledge into hes students and continue what bruce was trying to do
