Jeep XJ Longarm Build Flex Test

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Shot in 4K Ultra HD
This is the first time we have ever driven a Jeep off-road. We grew up wheeling full size trucks and ATV's. Recently we found ourselves interested in building a Jeep Cherokee as a project vehicle for my younger brother Chance, because when I was his age I restored an '84 K5Blazer and it taught me so much about fixing old crap I knew he needed a pile to restore as well.
Unlike my rusty K5 Blazer I wanted to start this project out with something rust free. We found a solid 2wd and converted it to 4x4 with a Rustys 8" long travel suspension. This is the first test-drive at Barnwell Mountain in their rock garden testing out all the components we installed. If you have any questions just comment below and I will try to answer them, thanks.
- 8" Rustys long travel radius arm lift
- Rustys front bumper
- Smittybilt rear bumper
- Goodyear Wrangler MT/R Kevlar Radial - 35X12.50R15LT
- 15" Race-line RT81 Bead-locks 5x114.3
- ARB air lockers front & rear, with ARB compressor
- amzn.to/38J9GsM
- amzn.to/38NdJ7z
- 4.88 Gears
- amzn.to/3qW2j7J
- amzn.to/2QbHgBj
- High pinion Dana 30 in front, Chrysler 8.25 in rear
- Yukon axle shafts front & rear
- Extended brake cables
- amzn.to/3tvxkB9
- Unibody frame stiffeners
- amzn.to/2P1ktYs
- amzn.to/2OAjTBf
- Aluminum Radiator
- amzn.to/2NtZEVh
- Rugged Ridge floor liner
- amzn.to/30T2pCz
- AX15 Gear oil
- amzn.to/3vArQab
- Best welding gloves

This is our first jeep, before this we were into the old square body Chevys. I was very surprised when I jumped into an XJ on how comfortable was.

She needs a Rubicon Rocktrack t-case 4:1 She came out really nice guys, great work, I used to see Rusty at the all breeds jeep show in PA every year, one of the greatest people I've ever met, love that mofo , he's a legend and will just give you parts, he hooked up a whole lift for my 04 TJ Rubicon for $600 , who does that? Rusty does! I had a 2 dr 95 SE Green stickshift , my favorite jeep outta all of them , made the doors removable, and even smoked a Civic? Just picked up a 98 4 dr with some type of ghetto lift and like New 33x12.5x15 Falken Wildpeaks from Redhook Brooklyn, needed a daily while my S.A.Swap is going on my 03 Toyota Tacoma , But I'm sure I won't leave the XJ alone, we can't leave anything alone! Keep up the good work

Rear leaf spring shackle angle is pretty steep. Longer shackles should make a smother ride

  • @CampbellBrothersGarage

O yea, the shackles that came from Rustys do not allow our leaf pack to move very much. One of our Buddys has the same rear leaf pack but with the longer "boomerang" shackle and it rides so, so much better.

Why not use those lockers in stead of the skinny pedal? You are more likely to break something throttling through it than turning on your lockers and crawling it.

I agree. Lockers were installed in this video but were not yet operational. The day before this video was shot we were still meshing gears. But we were unable to finish installing the ARB air system before this trip. It's amazing what you can do just running fully open diffs with beadlocks. Next time we go on a trip they will be functional.

12psi is what we ran to see what it was like. Any lower felt too wobbly when going 50mph off-road. But if we just crawled all day it could handle less pressure
