Trifecta. One of the coolest comedians ever, one of the coolest musicians ever, bonding over one of the coolest cars ever. Sure doesn't get any better.

Whats neat about this story , is the amount of miles Herbie put on the car over the years. He was driving around with a 2 million dollar lottery ticket and it's in very nice shape ... original owner....what a story !

I got to meet Herbie one day back in 2006 traveling to South America. Couldn't believe it was him, at an airport in Rio, Brazil, in baggage claim, noone one around, just him and one other guy. He was the nicest, laid back, most humble musician ever. Had a great conversation with him. Was a huge fan of his, especially his work Head Hunters..such a chance meeting. Never forgot it!

Imagine driving around LA and you see Herbie Hancock and Jay Leno casually driving around in a 63 Cobra...my head would explode!

Now after Chick has passed away we still have the great Herbie. Maiden Voiage is among the best records ever made. Herbie please stay with us for a hundred more years.

The Cobra has stayed in good shape due to the aura of cool emanating from Herbie Hancock when he drove it.

23 years old!!!! Probably the best automotive story ever. Has to be one of his most memorable time in history Now its worth millions apart from the famous owner history

The life long owner story is worth a million on top of the car value

I had opportunity meet Herbie & Gigi's one evening in the 1990s...he found out I was working for Shelby and we spend a few minutes talking Cobras. Totally cool, unassuming guy...both fantastic kind human beings...and yes, he gets the car thing. I believe Gigi called it that "little snake car in the garage"..;-)) Thanks Jay. I hadn't thought about this in ages. Great interview.

What a great guy is Herbie Hancock! He has been married to the same woman since 1968 (Herbie seems to be in things, like marriage and car ownership, for the long haul!), he holds degrees in music AND electrical engineering, has been an innovator in music from the early days of his career, looks about half his age and seems like a thoroughly nice man.

More cool in this video than in a Canadian winter. The story of Herbie and Miles drag racing had me laughing out loud. "You gotta get rid of that car, it's dangerous."

One of my favorite car stories so far. I earned my 1st car sand blasting an MG that looked just like that but had a different grill. My dad built a box of plywood around the car and made me climb in with a sandblaster and I did a great job. I got stuff in my eyes and it sucked lol. But it was my neighbors car and that's how I earned my 1st car and it was cool to help make his car restored. It took a few years like 7 but in the end it was like a new car. Jack you owe me a ride at least lol. He was the best neighbor ever. It moved away but still have very fond memories of what we created in our backyards.

That original ac shares styling cues with mg’s and jags of the day. They later took on the beefier persona with which most folks are familiar. Good on herbie for maintaining the original as is.

My brother and I were listening and studying Herbie in the early years of our lives..what an outstanding Jazz giant he is. VSOP forever my brother.

Herbie is cooler than the car. So glad I seen this

The car is art. And Herbie makes art. He's sprinkled in throughout my collection. Miles to Thundercat, he has worked with all the greats.

Curtis Mayfield had one. Took it to the shop to get it repaired. Didn’t wanna pay the storage fee required. The shop kept the car. Curtis didnt care SMH

I had kind of the same experience. Went to a car dealer with my daughter and my shorts and flip flop on and the salesman didn't grace me even with a look of attention. He was too busy with an apparently older and more acquainted customer. After 15 minutes of not even "Hello sir, I'll be right at you" I left the dealership, went to another, bought a 65K car and was sure to let the initial seller know what the result of their salesmanship was. Roughly a year later they were out of business.

that is the coolest, I really cant imagine anything cooler- Herbie and Jay in and AC / Cobra originals all the way around...that's class.

I've seen Herbie play many times, but I had no idea of his love for this Cobra. Made my day Jay.

"Herbie goes Bananas" .. .. should have been a completely different movie. Legendary jazz musician, surrounded by cool .. his entire lifetime. Buys a legendary car built by the man surrounded by cool his entire lifetime. Best part if this IS both Herbie and that Cobra .. their legends lie with each other.

The Cobra has always been one of my favorite cars. Herbie's is so understated. No racing stripe, roll bar, minimum chrome. No massive, obnoxiously loud engine. Different. Beautiful !!!

I wish I were a friend of Herbie Hancock. He appears to be a truly wonderful person. Oh, and I really like his music too!

Nice! As a teenager, growing up in the 1980's, I can never forget Herbie Hancock, Rockit and Hancock's performance of Rockit at the 1984 Grammy Awards. The 1980's. Great times! Glad to see Herbie's doing well and is still active in music.

I would never have imagined that the great Herbie Hancock could get any cooler until seeing him in his cobra. Wow I've listened to his music since I was a kid and I never knew he owned a Cobra. Herbie in a Cobra is just too cool for words love it !

Glad to see that some of the money I spent on Watermelon Man was put to good use.

A real rare 260 cubic inch 2 barrel carburetor version. Also with the antiquated worm and sector steering.

I am so happy to see two of my heroes collaborate. Herbie is a stand up guy and truly a treasure for the world to enjoy. I hope he lives out a long happy life and that jazz is kept alive by his inspiration, as it does for me. Keep the music alive friends. Thanks again for sharing this, Jay. Stay cool.

I can't believe that I just found out that Herbie Hancock owns a Cobra. Amazing that he still has it and has put so many miles on it. Both have hardly aged.

Ive always preferred the slabside to the SC monsters. So much horsepower. If I ever become hillbilly rich a Superformance slabside is on my buy list. British racing green with the dark tan interior. This one looks cool in white tho. And it does my heart good that Herbie Hancock owns it.

Jay opened for Herbie - People don't realize that there is such a thing as a get rich quick scheme - It's called working passionately for 30 + years.

Herbie's uncle was my first pottery instructor, Gilbert Hancock. RIP to an amazingly talented and spiritual human being, who is dearly missed.

I was 7 years old when “Rockit” was on MTV, my parents didn’t understand it, but it was one of my favorites. I’m not proud to admit that I thought Herbie was a one hit wonder, clearly I was wrong, I’m gonna check out more of his music.

Haha wow...a true American icon, globally-renowned. The word "legendary" can't even begin to describe this man's artistry and body of work. I wish I could hear all that stuff for the first time again! But I listen to him ALL the time anyway and it never gets old. And I haven't even heard "Rockit" in years!

Love this guy and his music. Can you imagine blasting down the road in an original Cobra with HH and having his album Future Shock blasting in the background! That would certainly be on my bucket list!

I always say the three best music concerts I was ever at were the two times I saw Herbie Hancock.

herbie is in the same condition like his car. what a cool guy.

Jay, I really appreciate all your content in your channel and follow it. Fantastic cars. Such a joy to watch. But meeting Herbie Hancock - and himself in this car - made it extra an exceptional experience. I LOVE Herbies music. He is a true - once appearing in thousand years - genius. One of the very last great Jazz musicians of the true beginning of modern jazz (after Miles, Chick and Al, Lyle and others passed by). Now you made the bridge between sportscars and Jazz - really something!! Also with the short shots of Miles and his Miura and his Dino. Thank you for this contribution!!

This car would have been built and finished in Surrey, UK and shipped to the USA for Shelby to fit the 260 v8 and gearbox. The early cars were basically the AC ACE with different engine mounts and diff - probably the prettiest version of them all.

What a fantastic person. We are so lucky that he has been the caretaker of it. and what a person who fame and fortune dose not seem to be currupted (spellcheck could not figure out the word, LOL,) by his fame. the car could have easily been sold or cast aside in favor of something new. thanks for sharing this moment...Fantastic!
