289 Cobra named "Dirtbag" | Barn Find Hunter - Ep. 28

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

You can never have too much Cobra, right? Yes, Tom’s at it again with more Shelby goodness, this time at the behest of Cobra guru Lynn Park. Once inside the heavenly garage, we get a look at an original 289 Cobra-affectionately dubbed “Dirtbag”-which Lynn liberated from a 20-year backyard parking spot under nothing but a blue tarp. Then it’s on to Cobra race cars, unique builds, and much more.

I know where there is a all original unrestored 289 Cobra here in Phx. It sat in yard near side of road near my old house. Windshield frame was removed so everyone thought it was just a MG or similar. Last I knew it remained untouched and is still driveable.

You guys need to make a video celebrating the life of Mickey Thompson.March 21st was the 20th (I think) anniversary of he and his wife's murder. :-(Plus I never knew somebody was convicted in the case.

Great episode! Lynn is such a great, honest, and sincere person. He has been "into" Cobras since they were new. That garage is a magical place, better than many museums. He isn't afraid to drive them and race them. Having grown up a few blocks away from him my ears always knew when he was out driving one of them!

Tom, you gave us enough video just to “whet our appetites”. Ten minutes is not enough time with this man and his collection. You could of spent ten minutes per car with this man and his stories and another ten minutes of him talking about the memorabilia hanging on his garage walls. After all, these are Cobras and this man was truly interesting with a great collection.

Tom’s Garage is EPIC. It looks like one of those “magazine holy grail” type of photos. His place should be a museum or at least a place where you can go, hang out and drink a coffee or a beer and just look at all the eye candy. His collection should never be broken apart. That is utter coolness. I only wish he lived closer to me!

I love the Michael Goodwin connection to the race car, a little creepy but a lot of people don't know that he was a former business partner of Mickey Thompson and was convicted of having Mickey and his wife murdered on March 16, 1988 almost exactly 30 years ago.

I was told quite a bit about that story by Ed Justice Jr. who knew those people and details I had not heard. I wondered what happened to the murderers...often those guys eventually say something to someone and it gets around. They may have been from another country and left right away. Ed thinks they got "offed" themselves.

Hey Barn Find Hunter and Hagerty. I am loving the series. Can I say how refreshing it is to have a show in which 'reality' is actually reailty? The more I watch this series, the more I wish it does not end. For a long time I thought that all good barn finds have been discovered. For a while I have thought that, all the barn finds left are the classic 40's to 50's cars. Sadly, where I live, finding the cars that I would like to own and restore one day are definitely not here (Australia). My favourite cars are the 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 and as shown in this video, the 289 Cobra. There is something special about cars that I do not think some people get. Whether it be the lines, the engine or the sound of the engine. Don't get me wrong, electric cars are good but the fake engine noise is where it gets me and it makes me sad to think that in a generation or two, people in the future may not be able to experience something as simple as the vibration the engine makes when you turn the key in the ignition. So thank you guys for this series and for keeping people's love for cars alive :). Out of interest, how did it cost to actually build the blue 289 Cobra from the mish-mash of parts (just so this 23 year old can start already planning)?

The Cobra is definitely one of the best British cars of the 1960s, and they made lots and lots of cars back then too! Along with the Jaguar E-type, Aston Martin DB5, more from Rolls-Royce and Bentley and no end of amazing manufacturers. Great Britain will never make the amount of great cars they used to...

I was a full service gas station attendant as a kid and would sweep the floors at the local car genius' shop after work. He was a guy that built exhausts and people would come from all over just to have headers done. I couldn't believe the cars I had a hand in that would be on the covers of magazines a couple months later. One of them was the polished CSX continuation aluminum bodied car, but this makes my head hurt in a good way to know that they are out there. As a person that landed at LAX and found the Peterson Museum with a $3 Metro Pass in under 24 hours? I'm picking up what you are putting down.

I would have loved to find one of those... closest I ever came was finding a wretched one in a junkyard.. too far gone, but I got the engine and trans out of it... 427 side oiler.. and stuck it into a 66 f100... lol but I did find a “68” Chevy back in 84... went to look at it, got into the old lady’s barn, and I couldn’t believe what I’d found!it was a corvette, I drained covered and on blocks... the lady said her son bought it brand new and got sent to Nam, and got killed... ... she asked for 50 bucks... I gave her 500...it had around 1200 miles on it
