I have to imagine that Jay Leno is the happiest man in the world. He made his bones in comedy, did the talk show hosting, was respectable and good at it. Has all the cars in the world that he wants and he spends his later years just doing what ever he wants to do.. that generally involves his car collection, cudos too him.

@@roy1157 Conan was offered a deal to host the biggest late night talk show on US tv, he got the job, but he didn't manage to pull in the viewership, so they replaced him with Jay Leno, so he didn't really DO anything other than saying yes to a job offer. A lot of people criticize Leno like he backstabbed Conan for taking his job, but to be fair, Conan was getting replaced even if Leno had said no. People SHOULD be mad at the network for ditching Conan O'brien so fast and not giving him a proper chance, not Leno personally, but people love acting like the hosts were the only ones involved with the decision, even though the decision to ditch Conan came straight from the network.

+Jamie Williamson. Leno owns many right drive cars, but he probably doesn't drive them as much in the twists above Malibu. Left/Right: whatever you're not used to is awkward. I find that my left is my dominant steering hand, even if I drive an automatic lease car. What I find awkward is not the hand but the shift pattern. Having low gears close and high away from your leg in non UK/Aussie cars becomes the feel I'm used to (you heard him say he'd missed a gear on a former turn) When I teach stick to a new driver in the US, I'm shifting for them at first so they can concentrate on the clutch. That feels wierd as the reverse must feel wierd to you Brits. Lap time on an airstrip rally course in an econobox re-done sedan/saloon car with straight line suspension must be a real time hole. Yes it would be better if they all drove the same car, BUT the lap isn't that important. The interview is the thing, the lap is just an excuse to have the celebrities on TG. Great interview by both men.

Leno on the one wife, you have to have a little background to get the comment. His predecessor Johnny Carson was married 4 times, the last two divorces cost him fortunes. Carson got $25 million/year to do the Tonight Show when it ended after 30 years. Jay was there for 20 give or take, and he saved every cent of the $30 million/yr he was getting at the end. He lived nicely on what he earned doing standup. He can play with all those $100s of millions now and he does so by buying cars he likes

He collects cars for an archival purpose. He wants to have an example of every single "interesting" car ever made, whether that is a Bugatti Chiron or a Lamborghini Miura. Well as anyone who watches Top Gear knows, Brits are (for some strange reason) resentful towards people that are proud of their accomplishments and want to flaunt their success in any way. I guess it's that typical intellectual moral superiority that occurs when people are well educated in information, but have relatively little in the way of diverse life experiences, causing them to unintentionally act REALLY judgmental towards anyone not like themselves. Jay is definitely uncomfortable in that moment because he can feel the people in the room starting to judge him for being too 'flash', so he asks them to be honest with themselves. I think what he's done is more than just collect cars, he's created his own historical museum and even place of worship for motoring enthusiasts out of a genuine passion for cars. He could've used that insane sum of money for more altruistic purposes, but instead followed his heart and created an inspirational collection of vehicles that is possibly only eclipsed by the Sultan of Brunai, but that still seems better than the Sultan's because he has made his collection so much more available to anyone with the same passion for petrol that he has.
