I lived one block from Shelby in the sixties when I was a student at Santa Monica College, but lived near him in Playa del Rey, CA. He would drive either a 65-66 fastback Shelby or Cobra to his LAX facility and I would rush out and watch him drive by since the exhaust gave an early warning. While at SMC I called the Shelby office and they loaned me the 66 fastback Shelby prototype with new rear quarter windows and first automatic transmission for the SMC homecoming parade weekend. Later, in 1970, upon returning from Vietnam, I bought a 1965 Mustang convertible, converted it to a Shelby clone over the years and still have it in Florida. I never met him in the neighborhood, but later met him at SAAC conventions. Long live the Shelby name!

Tatenda Nyashanu I liked Ford V Ferrari, but there was too much cheese and Hollywood movie tropes for a movie that’s supposed to be factual. Enzo tipping his hat at the race’s end was a huge eye roller for me Days of Thunder is great. And while it has its cheese moments too, is an amalgam of various NASCAR stories, primarily Tim Richmond. It isn’t portrayed as being factual

I had the extreme good fortune to grow up in Dearborn in the 60s. While working at a local department store, my boss turned out to be married to Bob Negstad - the engineer responsible for the first Mustang suspension, later the suspensions for the LeMans cars. I ended up dating Negstad's step-daughter who took me to 'his work' one night, a place called Kar Kraft. which was located down a side street in a light industrial area. We entered through an office, then walked through a door which took us into the garage. Even though I was a mere 17 years-old, I understood that I was in the presence of automotive history as all the LeMans cars shipped back from Europe were in that room. I even got to sit in one and couldn't believe how small and tight-fitting the seat was. Those were fabulous days for motorsports and I've got many memories of some very fast Fords.

Yes, Shelby won Le Mans in '59. But people keep forgetting about Phil Hill, who was the first American to win it, the year earlier. Further, Hill was the only driver to win both Le Mans _and_ the F1 driver's championship in the same year, 1961. He won Le Mans again in '62.

@Irvin Hoover - Interesting because I had a 1980 Mustang turbo 4 and the best part of that car was the car itself - not the engine. Ford didn't really have any turbo experience and they had problems with the '79 version, but supposedly they were corrected by 1980 - they weren't! It was poorly engineered with the catalytic converter just off the exhaust manifold and the turbo right off it. The cat disintegrated and blew the turbo at 60,000 miles. The engine was the only (but big) issue I had with the car. It was a fastback with TRX wheels and fat Michelin rubber and I splurged for optional Recaro seats - they were great. I would have preferred the V6 with a 4 speed but Ford only offered it with an automatic. Too bad, as I said, the car was fine but the engine was piss poor. Bought 2 VW GTIs after that! In fairness to Ford, ALL American companies produced their share of the crappiest excuses for a car in the 80s.

Awesome! There shoulda been a movie done sooner, but waiting for this obe in 2019 is well worth it considering how good it looks. Good cast too
