I knew Tim is a “car guy” but wow! He’s got some mad skills.

Me: Kidnaps Tim Allen and throws him in the trunk. Tim Allen to the cops: I was in the back of 1992 Ford Escort. I know by the taste of the spare tire, and the smell of burnt oil and bad decisions.

They really shift differently. I have a 54 Mercury and my friends have a 55 Oldsmobile, 55 Buick, 56 Packard and 62 Buick. You really can tell the difference in shifting between a Ford and GM. Ford is more direct and has a bit more harsh suspension. GM is in my opinion a lot more comfy and floats more. Oh and you can really tell the difference between a 55 Olds and 55 Buick. The 55 Buick only has 1 gear so it doesn't shift. The Oldsmobile has 4 gears wich it bangs through (sometimes you end up with your face in the dash)

@@luminescentlion oh I wouldn’t know about modern GM’s, Fords or Mopar. I live in Europe so we don’t have a lot of those here. But I do have lots of experiences with classic American cars and with your eyes closed you can tell GM, Ford and Mopar apart. Btw. how’s the manual gearbox of a modern mustang actually? Is it light and fake or more mechanical?

If you've ever driven a car with a Jetaway Hydramatic you'd understand. The Roto-Hydramatic was even worse. Would be poor fodder for this show, as soon as the trans dumps into second gear and the engine lugs, you'd know immediately.

@@57Joe Really? The roto-hydramatic was even worse? You'd think they would improve after some time. But the 55 Olds with the hydramatic really shifted bad sometimes. It would hold the gears for far too long and dump you into the next gear. If you didn't watch out you would end up with your face in the dashboard. My 54 Mercury shifted so much better... and tomorrow I'll go look at a 64 Cadillac Coupe Deville with a turbo hydramatic. I hope that thing will shift a lot better though...

Tim is not just a knowledgable enthusiast. He's likely better than a forensic expert on classic cars... geez. that was just completely outstanding.World class.

This is probably the coolest premise for a show. I could watch hours and hours of this

Yes the French built cars, their glory days especially at Renault and Pugeout were the 80's they built some of the craziest rally cars ever, even took a civilized 2 door compact hatchback and turned it into a MR layout homologated trim level in order to race in group b.

Tim Allen’s knowledge of automobiles is very impressive and he’s as entertaining as ever. Put that together with Jay and you’ve got pure gold. By far my favorite guest on Jay Leno’s Garage.

Huge fan of Tim Allen. Grew up watching him. He’s had his tough times but come back stronger. Seems like a cool fella. Love from Australia 🇦🇺

@@II-bt3sg next time you're out for a drive, try to notice how many cars going opposite of you that have either a daytime running light or headlight that is out. Now notice how 70% of them are GM, and not necessarily old models either.

The difference between a "car guy" and "car connoisseur" is being able to tell what kind of car it is by the seat, engine sound, transmission shifting, and door handle, while being blindfolded. Connoisseur.

I'm impressed with Tim guessing all 3 cars. Tim's attention to detail while blind folded and knowledge of cars is mind blowing.

One thing I know is he has a huge warehouse just for his cars with a full-time mechanic to keep them all tuned in and running smooth.

The chemistry between jay and tim is amazing, everytime they get together it's a joy to watch. Would love to see a car show created with the two of them as hosts where they go around viewing all the amazing personal car collections around the world.

Like two tightly bonded brothers. Jay is more mellow and laid back where Tim is bolder (drier) in his sarcasm but doesn't go overboard to the point of mean. I think they bounce off each quite well too.

That was amazing how Tim was able to guess the cars he was being driven in. Goes to show you how when you're really into a subject (cars, baseball, geography, etc…) you're able to wow those of us who aren't into that subject.

5:49, LOVE that laugh. Tim's is so iconic!

Love Tim Allen. This reminded me of Home Improvement and how he was building a car, and how much he loved cars. Its pretty cool to realize that he really was into that, not just a plot on a show.

On top of the skill here, this is incredibly funny and entertaining. Unreal. Tim and Jay are absolute class acts. Tim is one of the funniest people ever.

The fender mounted headlight and RH drive narrowed it to JDM immediately. I’ll bet it bugs him that he thought the rotary was a four cylinder though.

Tim Allen is a comedic genius, excellent businessman, great father and husband, loves his family, faithful to his wife for so many years, a nice guy and still in amazing shape. What's not to love? I enjoyed this!

Leno knows his buddy Tim is a beast he just wanted to show him off

@@imlost19 I would have guessed the SM in two seconds but I'd be cheating cuz I had one. As a project. That I never even started, let alone finished. Bought a few parts for it though. Still have the sphere diaphragms sitting around somewhere.

Dang Tim is knowledgeable on many levels. I'm very impressed.

Tim definitely knows his cars! I am beyond impressed! The only other people I know who could compete with him is my ex-foster dad and his son who restored old cars and are known all around the US for their talent of classic car restoration.

This is NBC's only content that I willingly subject myself to...

Jay would've been the "straight" man, Tim would be just brutally honest, and Adam's sarcasm would peel the paint off the walls... Having said all that, I doubt they would sacrifice the time to do it and it would cost a lot of money to have them there. Personally, I think the biggest problem with Top Gear US was the producer/production. It took a while, but eventually I thought Adam, Tanner and Rutledge built some good chemistry. My problem was more with the show than with them.

I almost feel like touching the headlights should be off limits. I think that’s when he nailed the olds 88 in his mind too. Pretty distinct configuration.

He’s truly amazing gotta give him credit able to guess on a wide cart of automobiles

Tim's laugh is contagious and the bond of these two is what really makes this episode.

If this wasn't staged that was one of the most impressive automotive feets I've seen.

@@mickalgabler6198 i was more impressed by the citroen. Mazda was easy IMO because the sound of that engine along with a few other design queues. there were so few wankel engine cars that it automatically narrows it down to a handful of things. feeling around a little bit gives the rest away.

Need to take into consideration that Tim probably knows Leno's entire car inventory, so that made it a ton easier to guess.

Tim “the toolman Taylor” is quite brilliant! So impressed. And, he is rocking his jeans. Love Jay in his casual attire as well.

i could watch these two for hours!

I hope they keep these up. Love Tim and Jay together talking and showing cars. Beats all the main streamers NBC is trying to shove down our throats.

Tim looks like he keeps himself pretty good shape.

Wow, Tim really knows his cars with a ridiculous amount of knowledge. Didn't know he was into cars like that.

Now that I've discovered this, I'd love more "stump a car nerd" episodes. This is great.

Joey Diaz said in an Interview that Tim Allen is one of the nicest people he ran into. He encouraged him when he was a nobody and Tim already had his show. Some people let fame go to there head, Tim did not. If Joey swears by you, your good in my book.

Tim Allen is known as a true Car Guy and WOW did he just prove it...👏

If that wasn't staged, then that is truly impressive to watch! That man truly loves cars!

He's too good for it to be staged. When they're faking it, there's still a pretense of modesty so that the average viewer doesn't declare "Staged!"

To be fair, it wasn't like he just had to guess in the dark. Jay let him ask many questions to narrow down the car before making his actual guess. If there weren't those questions to narrow it down I'd assume it was staged because it would seem impossible. But with how it played out it seems legit enough.

If it were staged, it would have sucked the joy out of the experience for the two of them. They both love cars. I think shooting a staged version of this would be painful for both of them. I think they were both genuinely having a great time.

No, he knows cars. His car collection rivals Jay's, he just isn't as flamboyant about it.

Very enjoyable segment. These two need to get together more often, perhaps for a larger project like a film or television series. Their chemistry is outstanding and they're both very funny guys. I think anything they did together would be gold.

His car knowledge is next level, holy crap.

surprisingly good for a Leno product. Tim knows his stuff!

I have zero desire to put in any effort to know cars but I can still appreciate how absolutely insane this is.

Pretty impressive! I am a car guy but I don't think I would have got them right. Probably the Olds, maybe the Mazda, but no way the Citroen

I'm the opposite, I would have got the SM for sure. The silky smooth ride is like no other car. The big Cirtoens have ride on hydropneumatic suspension, only the DS, SM, CX, XM . The SM has an Italian Maserati V6.

Same here... Olds would have been relatively easy... I might have picked up that it was a Mazda from the wankel. The closest I would have been to guessing a French car would have been by giving up and raising a white flag....
