I think one thing you missed and what very few people are talking about, is that Jakob was only 22 last year when he was setting records, while Kerr was 25 during worlds and 26 during this indoor season. This is relevant because while Kerr is now in his prime years for middle distance, Jakob is still 2, maybe 3 years away from that. This is relevant because Jakob will have a huge advantage moving forward as his body finishes developing, and he's already been an athlete who has consistently improved every single year. We won't know until we see him race, but I think Jakob will be the better of the two.

But he's off about his style of racing as well. Anyone watch the European Championships outdoor or indoors in the 1500 and 5,000 since he was 17. He has the full repertoire. I think he is just not comfortable with slow as molasses races and that's what happened plenty of times in Cram's era esp championship type races.

I think what Steve kram (no clue if I’m spelling this right) mean by one dimensional is that Jakob tends to run races in the same way, go out hard near the front, hold the lead, and then kick with that ever you have left and NOT that he can only run one event. And this has worked very well of Jakob, he runs fast consistently, and he makes all these races fast, irrespective of if it’s the 1500 or the 5k. However, Josh Kerr can run from the middle, he can sit n’ kick, or he can do the Jakob and run from the front (though I think Jakob is still better at this). Looking forward to the Pre!

I think you are forgetting that Jakob used to be a sit n kicker for his entire racing career up until 2 years ago when he switched his racing strategy to beat Cheruiyot. He can run races any way he just chooses to run hard from the front now because he has a higher fitness level than anyone else. If jakob is healthy and times his training correctly for the olympics hes smoking kerr in my opinion.

Jakob is cocky, just as Kerr is cocky. But Jakob's cockiness i way more warranted than Kerr's. Jakob has way more impressive credentials than Kerr. Kerr has beaten Jakob in 1 final, Jakob has beaten Kerr in 8 finals. Kerr's championships from 2019-2023 has been like this: 6th place, bronze, 5th place, gold, while Jakob has: 4th place, gold, silver, silver. Kerr has won zero Diamond Leagues in the 1500m/mile, and has 2 podiums, Jakob has won 12 DLs in the 1500m/mile, and has 20 podiums. Kerr has been talking alot about "being in 3:27-shape", yet he has never touched 3:28, his current PB is 3:29.05. After the 2022 WC final, he said that he was in 3:27 shape. His fastest 1500m that year was 3:30.60. Kerr has the 2 mile world record indoor, Jakob has the 2 mile world record outdoor. When Kerr ran his record, he ran the last 300m in front, when Jakob ran his record, he ran the last 1100m in front. Jakob has proven himself way more than Kerr has.

As usually this dude is disrespecting Jakob. Lets not forget he is a double world champ in the 5,000 and Olympic champ running away in the 1500 and his two mile way superior than Kerr's and he talked about how easy it was and his 2,000 world record is ridiculous. Also since he was young he ran against the best in the world and he is a 4 time European champ and that is a championship race and he beat both Whitman and Kerr in the 2019 world champs, and his father taught him on how to destroy the best Africans and to have no fear of them and he's be a monster since he was a child. But all of a sudden this dude and all the Kerr sycophants thing he's trash. He thrives on competition, and it was Kerr who didn't show up at the diamond league finals races but ran some stupid road race mile instead. Jakob did not fear Africans when they were destroying everyone and he certainly has no fear of an Englishman who beat him like one time in like 20 races, something like that! Of course Cram world say that, but where is Cram's Olympic Gold medal, and Cram broke some records but he wasn't a world beater in championship races with one gold medal. At only 23 Jakob already has three major championship gold medals, Kerr has 1, Cram had one. Jakob is only 23 not even in his "Prime" yet while Kerr is going on 27. If Jakob loses the big race, he will keep on going probably win the 5k again, if Kerr loses the Olympic 1500 after all his talk and all this, it may destroy him. We've seen that before. Be careful what you ask for Mr. Kerr!

Hey, guys whats your thought on this ?? ...World Run Championship, which would showcase the global talent and excitement of running as a sport. Similar to the Cricket World Cup and the FIFA World Cup for football, the World Run Championship would bring together nations from around the world to compete in various running events. This event aims to elevate the profile of running and provide a platform for athletes to showcase their skills on an international stage. Here are some key details and comparisons to existing sporting events: Format: The World Run Championship would feature a variety of running events, including sprints (100m, 200m), middle-distance (400m, 800m), long-distance (1 mile, 3k, 5k, 10k), and marathons. The competition would be structured similarly to existing World Cups, with group stages followed by knockout rounds leading to the final. Global Participation: Like the Cricket and Football World Cups, the World Run Championship would be open to all nations, providing an opportunity for athletes from every corner of the globe to compete against each other. Grand Opening Event: The World Run Championship could kick off with a marathon involving all participating countries, serving as a grand opening event to symbolize unity and the spirit of competition. Broadcasting and Spectatorship: The event would be broadcasted globally, allowing fans from around the world to follow the action. Stadiums hosting the competitions would draw crowds of spectators, creating an electrifying atmosphere akin to other major sporting events. Promotion of Running: By establishing the World Run Championship, we aim to promote the sport of running and inspire participation at all levels, from grassroots to elite athletes. The event would encourage a healthy and active lifestyle and serve as a platform for aspiring runners to pursue their passion. I believe that the World Run Championship has the potential to become a flagship event in the world of sports, attracting widespread attention and excitement.

You often hear slow races referred to as tactical races in the middle distances. I think this is a bit deceptive, because it suggests that the fast races aren't tactical, which is definitely not the case if there is more than one runner still in contention. Most people seem to agree that championship racing doesn't play to Jakob's strengths, but the bigger concern for Jakob, I would think, is that he runs his super fast times due to extreme fitness and coming from injury is not a good way to reach that level. I don't know how long it will take Jakob to get there, but I'm sure this is not how he would choose to start a season. If Jakob can reach his best fitness level and gets his tactics right, I think he could win, but Josh, Jake, Yared and others are all in with a chance and based on preparations so far this year Josh is looking in the best place so far, I would say.

I have a Norwegian bias. Everyone thinks Jakob is cocky and arrogant, I think Kerr is a lot more cocky and arrogant than Jakob has ever been. Jakob is analytical and hard on himself, and I think that comes across as being cocky at times when he doesn't deliver on his own expectations. Kerr seems to be more focused on beating Jakob than he is about being the best he can be. I'm not sure at all how this season will play out. It seems to me like Jakob has had more challenges in his training this season than he has before. I don't know if all the fuss and drama has been eating away at his recovery, or if he has pushed too hard wanting to shut up the haters. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a less than stellar season just as I won't be surprised if he wins everything he participates in.

Cram wasn’t talking about Jakob not being able to run multiple distances. Cram is talking about his running style, strategy. Racing is more than records. Racing is about finishing first. Records fall when they fall. Also, indoors has a lot to do with strength almost as much as being fast. Many stronger runners can win indoors but not outdoors. What I mean by that is how the turns are indoors. Tighter corners sets up stronger runners. Not dissimilar to an outdoor track experiencing a crosswind. Headwinds are tough but that’s why we draft and stay in the pocket. A crosswind takes strength for integrity in your stride. With a tighter corner it takes a bit more strength to also keep integrity in your stride. I personally don’t care who wins. I just want to watch a race that’s fantastic. A great race where one and two both beat the record would be great.

There are three if not more runners in middle distanse that kan break the WR at 1500 meter, 1 mile, 3000 meter and 5000 meter, so this season will set some WR's, mark my words. I think Jacob will stand with the 3000 WR for shure, he is capable to run 7:15 on that distance now. He is also ready for one mile WR, close to 3:40, and he can run a 1500 meter maybe as low as 3:24 given a perfect race on a perfect day. Jacob is also capable to break the 12:30 barrier at 5000 meters, so i wonder how he will set up the season. I don't think Josh Kerr has any shot at the gold at all, because if it goes fast like sub 3:28, then Jacob will win the final, but if the final becomes a slow tactical race than Narve Nordas will win the final. Nordas has runned 400 meter at 46.4 seconds, and i don't see any other racers in the field beat that kind a kick. So i give Josh Kerr wery slim chanse realy. So if Kerr runs to fast enaugh to shanke off Nordas and that will require a 3:28 feat, then he will loose against Jacob as i see it, so Norwegian gold regardless 😎

I believe Steve Cram is dead right. He should know. Cram (1.42.88 over 800M) was a near perfect 1500M runner - who could run world records over the distance and had a big finishing kick to boot, if the race was tactical. His kick was only slightly inferior to the great Seb Coe (1.41.73 over 800M). Ingebrigtsen is highly vulnerable in a slower, tactical race as he just hasn’t got enough natural sprinting ability like Cram, and especially Coe. Hicham El Guerrouj had a better kick than Ingebrigtsen but lost the 2000 Olympic final (3.32.07) to a slightly better kicker (Noah Ngeny 1.11.97 1000M WR holder), who sat on him. Even if Ingebrigtsen reaches the same fitness level as 2023 (unlikely given his injury going into 2024) his only hope of beating Kerr is to make the race an even-paced 3.25/3.26 pure endurance test, so blunting Kerr’s kick. Ingebrigtsen’s best distances are at 3000M and beyond where he can run the last 1000M in under 2.20, if required - even off a fairly solid pace. He’s extremely difficult to beat on that basis over the longer distances.

As for the Jakob and Kerr rivalry, I suspect more than half of it is just 2 lads having fun at each others expense. IMO Jakob doesn't win the 1500m in Paris. As Steve Cram correctly noted, Jakob is a bit too one dimensional and will always be vulnerable to someone with a fast kick. Doesn't mean Kerr wins in Paris either, there is a lot of top talent capable of taking both of them down. I believe Jakob is a better 5k runner than 1500m runner, the longer distance allows him much more time to wear down the fast kicking opponents, Jakob has a decent kick himself at the end of races, just not world class kick
