    @@jakerazmataz852do you think their time is worthless? Do you have any idea how much time and work goes into sorting, pricing, listing, shipping, disputes... Plus you have to make enough money to cover the time spent at all the garage sales you go to and don't buy anything or possibly lose money at. If both parties are happy it's a good deal, there is zero chance that man was going to spend the time needed to get top dollar for these items.

    I feel sorry for the seller. He seems overwhelmed selling his sisters items. She may have passed, and now he’s stuck with a collectors stuff and he has no desire for hoarding and collecting. He just wants them to go to flippers or other collectors.

    @@shrooms8475 That’s what I meant as well, but it’s an overwhelming task to do that kind of selling in bulk unless u get buyers who buy in “lots” like he did. Otherwise u get stuck selling again and again. Garage sales can be fun 3 or 4 times, but then too much work for all that u get out of it. I give it all away cheap, but this guy has a garage full of collectibles that should be on eBay. Just 10 items sell for more than he makes in 2 hours. Anyway, at least he was getting paid customers.

  • @dawnieb.7394

    @dawnieb.7394

    Жыл бұрын

    @@leeartlee915 that's an exaggeration. It's unfair to categorize ALL resellers in this way. Plus, you forget it's a free market. No one is holding a gun to anyone's head forcing them to sell high-end items at garage sales for way less than they're worth. If someone chooses to do that, it's their choice and their right. There's also no shame in a reseller trying to save themselves some money on a deal, because the seller can always say no! There are many, MANY people out there who are happy to sell items to resellers for less than the items are worth, knowing full well that the resellers are going to try to flip the items for more. It's really not so horrible. ETA: It's also not like the seller asked for $5,000 and the buyer counteroffered $500. Now THAT would be pathetic. Just like when you have a garage sale and you're selling a $30 appliance for $3.00 and someone comes along and says "Would you take $1.00?"

    @@dawnieb.7394 I mean of course I’m exaggerating. All Yankees fans aren’t the worst… but most are. But that little “free market” thing you bandied about, that is the biggest load of horse shit you can pin your argument on. The free market, while a wonderful thing in many ways, does not absolve a litany of individuals from not being horrible, shady, bottom dwelling, parasites. The two can co-exist. You can have a free market AND people who do shitty things within that free market. Of course I’m engaging in hyperbole but the reality is that I don’t have a lot of respect for resellers. Like I said in my above comment, I think of them a lot like those gross af used car salesmen: legally allowed, sure, but someone I would avoid at all cost.

    It's true that the seller said to make an offer, but he later clarified what he thought a good offer would be - $1,000. The buyer then hedged and offered $750 and then came up to $850. $1,000 was a good deal, and I think it was rather insulting for the buyer to offer $750. If the seller had held out for $1,000, the buyer would have paid it.

    It's business, not charity. There is no virtue in overpaying for something if the seller is willing to sell it at your price. Additionally; the buyer doesn't know how quickly he will be able to sell it, or if he will be able to sell it at all. That merchandise could be sitting dormant for a long time before you sell it. You have no way to know that at the point of sale. This is where the time value of money comes into play. Unfortunately; schools don't teach those financial basics anymore. You were still going to make a huge profit for all of those for $1000. Some people value their time and their space more and don’t want to deal with a bunch of stuff. Personally I like stuff and I like collections, but as I’m getting older, I can tell that the time and the space are becoming more attractive to me. All in all, a deal’s a deal! I once found a Disney animation book, signed and numbered and priced at $20 at the thrift…did I tell them it was worth more? Nope! That was their asking and I bought it!

    Great find...and you live in "The Center of the Universe"! My favorite yard sale score happened about 7 years ago and was found the day after a yard sale in Exeter NH. The folks left a Barney Rubble Flintstones pedal car circa 1962 made by Irwin Toys for FREE out by the side of the road. It was in excellent condition save for a slight bit or surface rust on the metal frame beneath the polyethylene body. I sold it on e-Bay for $485.
