It is time for... 1000 HP 4L60!!!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Let the fun begin.... Starting the reassembly of the transmission was very interesting. We installed a new durabond rear case bushing, verifying the clearance is always a good idea. After the new case bushing came the low piston. The piston was a little snug to install with new lips seals but after a bit of finesse it slid right in. Prepping the case for final assembly included hone stoning the case, checking for a case flatness of less than .005". Installing a new 3rd apply check ball capsule is an absolute must.
Time to get down to business, the rear planetary carrier and 4l70 5 pinion planet with new AC Delco Torrington bearings is very critical to a long lasting rebuild. Rather than an anti clunk spring we used a steel case saver. The center support was next with a new borq warner sprag assembly. The inner sprag race was replaced with the supplied race from the sonnax smart shell kit. Making sure to lube the bearing on the back of the shell, we installed the sun gear and shell together. The sonnax wide sun gear bushing installed helps carry the load of the front planetary reaction shaft. Now the front 6 pinion planetary and reaction shaft and carrier are installed. Same as the rear bearing, plenty of lubricant is always a good idea. Coming in last is the Sonnax output shaft. With the gear train assembled, checking rear unit end play we have verified everything is ready to move forward.
Starting on the input drum is always a great time. The sonnax smart input drum is very robust compared to the factory drum. In the bottom of the drum we used a bonded blue 3/4 piston new #7 retainer as well as a bonded forward piston. The overrun piston is a sonnax piston that comes with the smart drum. Installing the sprag into the race and assembling the two sprag half's completed our sub assembly and allowed for final assembly of the drum. Using new raybestos clutch's we stacked up to the 3/4 clutch very carefully. Now to use the sonnax backing plate and the new raybestos clutch's and steels. Torquing the retaining plate to 51 inch pounds finishes the assembly of the drum.
The reverse input drum was inspected for a total surface flatness of now more than .005 of clearance. Installing new durabond bushings in the front and rear of the drum was next. The piston received new lip seals and was installed in the drum. Factory clutch stack in the drum completed the drum.
Time for the pump. Due to rotor failure we opted to clearance and fit the pump body with a 10 vane pump kit from transtar and steel rings provided in our transgo pro kit. Although we are using transgo products in the transmission, we also installed a sonnax lock up valve as well as sonnax springs. The pressure regulator circuit is improved with the transgo boost valve and transgo pro valve kit. The stator body is machined in house. The lock up feed circuit is modified as well in house.
Now that the input drum and reverse input drum are installed a new raybestos ultra band goes in and the pump is installed. The band is controlled by a Corvette servo as well as a sonnax 4th servo. Pin travel is adjusted to a total of .070 of travel.
Thanks for watching along as we have assembled this transmission. After seeing the final product and watching it work in the vehicle it's been a lot of fun to see how it progressed. For any questions please comment on the video.

I am a retired mechanic you can take pieces of 90 degree angle and you can weld them together that looks like a big Square Lays potato chip when you cut these pieces of mangle together you can lay your valves in the group's this way you can take the valves directly out the exact way they came out about body because you do not want to accidentally turn the valve 180° the opposite way this will help you put everything in order so will you take valves out of the valve body you can put them in the exact order that you took them out of the valve body and place them on the tool then you can clean all the valves one by one I put them back into the valve up want you make sure everything goes and exactly the way it came out of the valve body easy homemade tool that I've made I have several of them they work really good you do not want to accidentally put a valve in backwards this could cost shifting problems the valves and springs will stay in place just how they came out of a vehicle and you do not have to worry about the valves and springs rolling around on the metal table hope this ideal help people that are working on Transmissions it is also very important to clean all parts thoroughly it only takes one particle to stick a valve in a valve body I've always use mineral spirits hot water and blow-dry with the compressor that's always work for me we have to be very clean when you are rebuilding a transmission Parts need to be clean and dry

Great build. I really like the Smart Tech input drum, the Sonnax reaction tube and Smart shell. One thing I found that would make your build a little better is a torrington bearing that replaces the one remaining thrust washer behind the pump. I can't remember who did the bearing kit but I would think the bearing is available by size. This helps support the gear train a little better when we take the endplay down to .005.

Hi man, I love it how advanced you are. Few suggestions from me is Drill the Band release hole to .101. Also there is a rule of thumb, your 2-3 and 3-2 feed holes always have to be the same size. Also bang the torlon checkball before installing to the plate to ensure 100% seal. A lot of the times when you put torlon checkball in the separator plate, you can see light coming thru. Now for 4th acum in the case, leave the guts out and bang a steel checkball in the feed hole. More lube to rear planets = profit. You cant make 4-th too firm. Also, always block both 3-2 valves inboard and save the yellow spring to use inside the AFL spring if you dont have the transgo one. You cure a huge leak with this overcomplicated stuff on downshifts. Also use the Superior K0136 directional valve instead of 3rd check capsule. It's so ultimate. If you're low on vacuum on AFL, you can use oversized Central Valve bodies valve. Use fitzall valve to the TCC Isolator. There is a few things i learned from you. Thanks for your vids mate! Best regards.

All good mods, but could you tap and Loctite a set screw in the feed hole for 4th accum, so if someone else ever does a rebuild they have the option to unplug it. used an old steel check ball to indent the separator plate for the torlon ball to sit in, dont hit the torlon checkball. I.m no pro builder but have learnt a lot off the internet thanks to the help form all you guys.

Is there any particular reason you aren't soaking your frictions before installing them? Won't they run dry for the first bit of start up? I know it takes a little time for them to completely impregnate with fluid and I figured it was the right practice to soak them until they stop bubbling before installing.

Awesome video ,is using the Sonnax pinless accumulators better than stacking two pistons in 3rd I’ve heard of this mod how does it affect shift feel?

  • @expressautotransmissiondav4207

    @expressautotransmissiondav4207

    2 жыл бұрын

The problem I have with the stacking is it still can have a leak around the center of the pin. Typically once it's stacked it shouldn't move hardly at all so it shouldn't in theory wear the pin hole. Either way the pinless accumulator doesn't change shift feel but does aid with preventing cross leaks for each side of the accumulator.

Awesome video! Thank you for all the build details. A lot of guys on here tell you what they do, but not how or why. This is along the same lines of what I want to do with my 09 Silverado. I've had 3 different local guys rebuild my transmission once each in the last 3 years.. all of them blew up a couple of months after their 1yr warranty expired. 🤬 I figured, I'm pretty mechanically minded, and I do most of my own other car repairs. Why not try to do this myself and do it right. LOL. But I do have a few questions if anyone would care to answer, I would appreciate it. With this higher HP setup, woud it be nessecary to put in a higher stall converter? Would I need to upgrade my rear differential for the highter HP? Are there any modifications that need to be done to the truck's computer for it to accept the changes. Or is it just plug-n-play? I'm just looking to make it a bit more heavier duty than just a factory build. Thanks in advance for any help.

You could tap the 4th instead of pounding in a checkball in case you ever want to go back--use a 5/16th - UNF (fine) or a 1/16 NPT (tapered pipe.) Then leave the piston & spring out and you'll get increased oiling to the rear. Which TransGo kit are you using, the SK 4l60 or the HD2? The SK the 1-2 piston goes in facing out. I usually go with the SK 4l60 kit and add the 7CS spring kit and save about $30.
