Because of you, I successfully reinstalled the 6L80 in my 2015 Sierra 1500 XLT 4x4 so a huge thank you! TC pushed in correctly had good spin on it when bell housing was tightened securely to the engine block and tightened those 3 TC bolts nicely, buttoned everything back up, exhaust, drive shaft, starter, etc. TC was already slowly filled with about a quart of AFT before I set it into the trans. After buttoning it all up I also added 8 more quarts to the newly rebuilt trans., turned the truck on for a quick moment, then shut it back off. Added about 4 more quarts of ATF (D6) and leveled it off, did my road tests successfully and I am a happy camper. Good work with the video!

I let GMC do it last time and they put the same inferior parts right back in. #1 lasted 132k miles, #2 lasted 75k miles and 3 years/ 4 months. 4 months out of warranty. Imagine that! Since it was my first time putting a new converter in this video is a major help so david thank you very much only thing is i forgot to replace the lock up O-ring but i had to look at another video and make sure the spacing from the mating surface of the transmission and the converter had to be 1 inch. lubed up the shaft going in with fluid and the nub sticking out with high temp grease as stated from another video. it took me 7.5 hours to complete from start to finish you guys make it look really easy and i think i took too long lol.

After watching your video and seeing where you mentioned the bolt holes on the fly wheel have to line up a certain way, I didnt realize that. My last bolt in went in very tight as if it were cross threaded and now I here a noise sounds like scraping and my truck is not wanting to move.

Awesome videos guys. Do you need to prime the tranny anywhere with fluid or just put it in dry and fill through the dip stick?

Tight clearances, how do you ensure you not cross threading bolts around the housing as you run them in with an impact and an swivel extension? No torque spec with and impact, so I guess everything is “Gutentight”

My favorite part was when you used the torque wrench 😂 jokes aside, your videos are very helpful, thank you!

Just had my 6l80 rebuilt. Is there a “relearn process?” Mechanic told me give it a couple hundred miles to “smooth out.” Shifts slow,hard,revés up and sometimes has a high pitch noise kinda like a squeal but faint.. any advice would be appreciated

Is there a way to completely bypass the stock oil cooler using a remote cooler and block heaters on temp switches to preheat oil. 6l80 tourqe convertor failure would like to not reuse any thing that may have metal shavings in it

Hello, can I install Sonnax high-performance pump slide spring 104534-HD to 100% STOCK GM 6L80? My car is 2011 camaro SS. The Sonnax spring is stiffer than OE and is able to hold the pump slide in a maximum-volume position, despite increased pressure and high engine speed in performance applications.

Quick question on the vent hoses. So the one on driver side heads back to the transfer case. The other vent on the pass side. One goes to the top of the trans but there is a y. Where does that go?. I been trying to figure this out.

Can you show where that vent hose goes to the transmission.. mine is hanging and the plastic t piece is melted. I want to replace it.. but I can't tell where on the trans it goes

I have a question regarding scanning Programming or tuning some called it. I met with a gentleman today that runs a shop And I’m being told that programming and Tuning are two separate things. and that’s where I’m confused I know that the scanner is separate and used for a diagnosis. he also told me that I would have to have A machine similar to a Dyno to do the Tune just something I want to learn. I was under the impression that I just needed a computer and some software to do a simple tune while road testing and Tuning

You have me completely confused on the torque converter bolt holes in the flex plate. What do you mean one of them has flats? I am working on a 2011 GMC with a 6L90E right now and all three holes look identical to me...

If you look.at the holes one of the holes will.have flat sides on the hole andn the bolt will fit snugger in tge flexplate. Thats the starting hole.

Yep Chevrolet did that right for sure. Line it up first and torque bolt the rest will aline correctly

I watched this whole episode to see how you flushed the cooler. I wonder how many transmission failures were caused by omitting this step

Long shot here asking for help. I saw your removal video but was unaware of this one until now that i have replaved my transmission on 08 sierra and am now having problems where there lever moves and clicks in place but the dash doesnt show it going into any gear and of course it never actually shifts. After watching this video the only thing i could think of off the top of my head that i did wrong or incorrect was the alignment of the drive plate to the torque converter and my connector was destroyed so i replaced it with the cut off one from my "new" transmission. I honestly was pretty confident about my electrical work until now. Im just wondering if this may have to do with my connector or if i destroyed the transmission with the flex plate heck i could have even got a faulty used transmission, some insight would be greatly appreciated as i an stumped here. Edit: I forgot to add that i swapped the tcm inside the transmission from my previous one. I also made sure the torque converter was in all the way, the person i bought it from showed me what it looked like all the way in and had me put it in myself a couple times.

@aaronnelson7146 I ended up reinstalling the valvebody, there is a very specific torque sequence for the tcm onto the valve body. Reinstalled and then using a bi-directional scan tool opened all the valves then turning the vehicle on for a minute then turning it off and repeating it. After a while of this it began to finally shift and now works perfectly fine. My assumption is, if you have the tcm in perfectly of course which I hadn't at first, you need to wait for the fluid to fill all the valve body passages before it does anything. Once you get the tcm installed correctly or if you were a lot smarter than me and installed it correctly the first time and don't have access to a scan tool then try starting the vehicle, cycle all the drive options, shut off with key on and cycle, start it ip again and repeat. It wont/didn't immediately start shifting, but after a while of this tou should hear it starting to want to try to shift and eventually it will. Also be sure your dipstick is out during the entire process for it to expel air easier. Just be sure it doesn't spill everywhere but I didn't have a problem with that. Hope this helps, please let me know if it does.

What is your preferred torque converter for the 6l80? I know this is a problem area with the oe. I have a stock 4x4 2015.

2015 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4: I watched you video and it has helped a great deal with my install. I am stuck on one thing though. I have two vent hoses, one with a "y" on it that connects to the transmission and the transfer case. For the life of me I can't remember where the other line connects. Any ideas?

One connects to tcase and other hooks on top of tease to open air or faces down and is open and clips on back of cross member

I have one hose that has vent sticking up on bracket at front of transmission. this one I believe connects to transmission (via tee and short hose) and to top of transfer case. This sound right?

Excellent video! I just finished my install. The rebuild guy mentioned getting the taps or adapts reset. Would you think it would be okay to drive the truck long enough to get to my nearest dealer (12 miles) to have this reset without worry of doing damage to the fresh rebuild?

Question - just installed a rebuilt 6l80 in my 2015 Chevy Tahoe. I have not flushed out the trans fluid cooling lines yet, and I don’t have tools to do that, I plan on taking it to the dealer to have them hot flush the lines and also I need them to flash the TCM on their computer. Is it ok for me to hook the lines up in order to drive the Tahoe out of my shop? Or do I need to avoid starting it until that is done? I’m worried any debris in the lines/cooling system will go into my transmission.

Thank you, really appreciate it!! Another question - I have a GMC 2500 with the 6l90 that had a trans replacement before I bought it. For some reason they never routed it back through the radiator for cooling. Maybe 6-8 months ago I put a new bigger air cooler on it and hooked it back up to the radiator. Being the dumbass I am I didn’t think about what debris from the previously failed transmission might be in there. I’ve had no issues yet, but is there anything I can do to clean it out at this point or is it basically what’s done is done and hope for the best?

Looks like you didn’t take out the original valve body computer from old trans and reinstall it into your new trans. No program needed.

I've watched I think every video on 6L80. You certainly know your stuff. I used them to help me rebuild one. I'm having an issue on one that my local sources can't seem to help me on. Is there a way to send you a message to maybe see if you can point me in the right direction?

@@expressautotransmissiondav4207new transmission had not been reprogrammed except for the reset I did with turning the key forwards with the gas pedal and then switching it to off. I bought a new tehcm and that did not work. Just kept the truck in park when in any gear. This is the tehcm that came with the transmission. Guessing I’m going to have to flash it.

I've been reading that all is these 6l80 haven't really been changed. An guy used an 2013 6l80 in an 2007 Yukon Denali. Only used his original techm. I wonder if i could go further and use an 2015 6l80😁😁

Ive used them in many different up and down years. Techem and speed sensor count for rear output ring gear isnwhat matters.

I’m currently getting my 6l80 rebuild,just having shift into 4th flare at wot at the strip. It all started when I upped the stall from 2300 to 3500 My tuner/builder said it’s probably the 4th gear pack has shit itself. So long story short we’re up to a debate on weather or not we change the techm,there is no metal in the trans and the pressure switches are all intact…so I’m saying just change all the switch seals an screens and test the solenoids but he just want to change it which is 900 bux extra …..what do you reckon? Honestly on any tuned vehicle I prefer to replace them then program and run adapts before setting final tune. Also if your going to that extent are you upgrading the drum and using a sonnax billet piston kit?

We’ve installed a zip kit and transtar tcc valves with billet 1234 piston and I also want the sonnax 456 clutch apply kit but builder reckons waste of money and not sure about the drum yet…if so it’ll be a genuine one as a lot of aftermarket stuff is not stocked in Australia let alone Western Australia atm anything from the east takes about 3/4 for delivery.

You were actually spending the engine in the wrong direction it moves clockwise from the front counterclockwise from the flex plate

I got a quick question trying to decide what I'm going to do I have a 2015 Silverado 1500 5.3 L 117,000 MI transmission is making a grinding type of noise on initial start in the morning as it's idling and Park it goes away after a minute but when I give it gas it makes the noise and the transmission slips and first gear goes away after truck is warm probably about 30 miles trying to figure out if I need a new transmission or maybe just a torque converter at this point I'm at a loss and with just barely buying the truck with no warranty kind of sucks
