So helpful, quick question.. So i have yo rebuild or replace my transmission, those are my two options.. so obviously my 10r8 has to come out.. Do you know if i have to retune it? I was told by someome that once i pull it out the trans that the tcm resets to factory.. Personally i dont think it does because the battery will be unplugged and even that wouldnt reset my ecm.. any thought or knowledge?

Those top bellhousing bolts must be lots of fun on the install.

Is there any reprogramming that needs done when replacing a 6r80 transmission? I keep getting told they required programing in a new trans.

My transmission is out! Woohoo! Another note: 6th gear was slipping as well as the clunky shifting in the lower gears. It slipped after a 10.70 pass at 128mph.

Ford did a few things to make removal easier like the rubber plug , flanged drive shaft and not to have to remove the exhaust system to get the tranny out.

I'll be taking my 10r80 out here real soon to send off to get clutches, thermal bypass, and "zero flex f apply plates." I really appreciate the video! My only problem is going to be jacking the trans, and I definitely don't want to bust the plastic pan. Any advice for doing this on the ground without a lift?

Buy a transmission jack is the biggest thing harbor freight has a reasonable priced one that would work just fine

If you live in cold climate don't do the thermal bypass. My trans never gets over 110F if it's under 50 degrees after 40 mins of driving. The fluid shouldn't be 230F, but it definitely shouldn't be barely above "Warm" either, it's almost just as bad.

How did you go about getting your own shop. I have been wanting to open my own place.

It all kinda happened really fast I made the decision one day working for a local transmission shop. Within a week I had a place found and shook hands on the building im in. If you want to do it jump in feet first is my way of thinking. I was scared and will never deny that but I was confident in what I could do. It's been full of ups and downs that I never truly expected, but I wouldn't feel like myself doing anything else. I hope you take the leap ambition will drive you a long way. Being honest enough to ask to learn is a great building block for a great transmission mechanic. You can do it

@@expressautotransmissiondav4207I work at a fleet shop now as a diesel mechanic & I work with my wife's uncle who was a transmission/bumper to bumper mechanic. My boss passed away at the fleet shop so they put me in charge. I really learned alot about the "other" side to a shop (paperwork, ordering parts, lining up jobs, ect) I'm at the scary part now of taking the leap to do mine own thing.
