The problem with these dag guys is that the competition isnt great right now. Its not bad, certaintly, but its not great. Its hard to say how they would do against the best to ever do it. And we will never get a chance because they all retire early. They just dont have the track record.

Also, Makhachev fought Alex who is standing at the top of the pound-for-pound rankings. Of course, the competition can still be greater. The thing is that the Dagestanis understand the game and would rather leave the sport at the limit of their prime. Even Izzy and Alex are also talking about making the most of their prime age.

I'm scratching my head about people not recognizing this a long time ago or NOT WANTING to recognize this. Been following the AKA and TeamKhabib since many years, long before Khabib became champ and to real MMA followers it was clear a long time ago, that Islam is an elite fighter and that he'll become champ eventually one day. Their Coach Javier Mendez said over two and a half years ago, that he's never seen Khabib losing a sparring session over the course of 9 years, except losing only two rounds, and both rounds was against Islam

Couldnt agree more bro, ever since I seen him do the Russian Tie snap on that kid, I knew his technique was real. I learnt his striking was super elite against Do Bronx and clearly a lot of people missed this. Like TFB said, I’m also baffled why people were only looking at the last round, it must’ve been the narrative going into it. I’m honestly disappointed a lot of people fell for this including mr Rogan. You must look at the skills and technique. Ultimately, I think Volk lost this fight because he went there overconfident and underestimated Islams striking.

@@Mtha77 Well I agree except that I don't think he underestimated his striking because he experienced it very well in the 1st fight. I think it was just psychological trash talk before the 2nd fight. They respect each other enormously and even more after the first fight. Secondly, Islam's striking coach prepared him perfectly for the second fight, setting it up with the body kicks and then going up high to shut Volk's lights out, good old textbook. You could clearly see how Volk expected the body shot as he leaned down and protected an expected body shot which opened the head area.

He choked out the guy with the most finishes in the UFC, and he knocked out the most dominate champion in the UFC at present. There will never be another Khabib. But there will never be another Islam either.... Well said and well put, My Brother!!!

It's crazy how far Islam has come. I remember back when Islam was up and coming there was a lot of criticism of him on whether he can perform under the big lights or when he would fight a top contender. Now this dude is carving his path in UFC history and will go down as one of the greatest.

Islam has been treated like a nobody for so long that we kinda got used to it, but what does a guy have to do to change the narrative on him? He just risked his belt for the second time against the P4P#1 guy & KOed him in the 1st round. Imagine if Volkanovski KOed Islam how much praise he'd get for that no matterif it was with full camp or on short notice. I mean the Praise Volk got for just making the first fight controversal was already enourmous, bcs the deal was if Volk wins, he's the new Ligh Weight cham - as he should be had he won - & if Islam wins, he's te new #1 on the P4P ranking list. But they let Volk have the P4P #1 rank just for making their first fight competitive. Now Islam beat him a 2nd time & in the most convincing way possible, but the recognition he get's is still mild in comparison.

It's fine, but truth is Islam only defended his belt against Volk both times and Volk made the first fight competitive. The 2nd fight Volk was fighting him on 11 days notice with no training camp and out of a recent surgery. The only legit lightweight win is Oliviera (out of the top 5), so yes he still has more to prove and if he really is as good as they say he should have no problem proving it when he starts clearing out the lightweight division. Quite frankly despite the way he fights, I'd like to see Chandler have a go at Islam, title fight or not. I don't see Porier or Gaethje doing much of anything. If Chandler doesn't gas himself out he might have a chance.

I think DJ's analysis has more to do with Volk's susceptability to the ranged kicking than it does about Islam's striking ability. Anybody can catch Volk at a distance with kicks. Max did it and Volk's first lost was to a head kick. Dj explained the dynamics between being a short fighter vs a longer taller fighter and how he deals with it on both sides. He basically said all Islam had to do was throw the body kick all day because Volk either has to move out of range or take it. Especially when Volk is primarily orthodox and Islam is south paw.

I rewatch Islam first fight vs Volk a few times and Islam won that fight. Even when it first premiere my buddy and I was watching to together in discord and we both saw that Islam won. There was so many controversy after but now the 2nd fight put all the doubts to rest.

Islam isnt khabib, khabib was too dominant in his fights, too untouchable and charismatic, and left ufc giving a feeling of immortality. But islam is maybe the greatest fighter of the decade. The guy never rejected a fight always game had big trouble for opponents to accept to fight before becoming champion always had pressure on his shoulders since khabib retirement and slowly becoming a stand up fighter too so i really dont understand the hate and the discredit that some fans give him where he signs on the dotted line to whoever is opposed to him and wins with a statement.
