    For $1800 you can get the Xiaomi with 5000 Lumen. You just need to tweak the settings a bit to get the image you want. For half the money, it's a no brainer

    Ruud the Diamond Not really sure of tweaking will bring the Xiaomi up to the level of the Optoma also the Xiaomi isn’t 5000 ANSI Lumens cuz according to many reviews it’s not as bright as the VAVA and the VAVA is 2600 ANSI Lumens I think

    @@bnnett i just saw the Epson EH LS500 4000 Lumen for €2500 21%tax included, starting februari. That's better value than the Xiaomi. ALR screen from Shenzhen Sams AV tech co.,Ltd are around €450 fixed frame-750 motorized, which is a lot cheaper than other brands ALR chrystal pet screens. Prices are coming down fast:)

    The ALR screen is a definite improvement but whether that’s worth the extra money depends on where you have your projector. If it’s in a dedicated cinema room with barely any light I’d say that it’s not needed. If you’re using the projector in a living room and will be viewing during the day then I think the ALR screen is a good investment especially if you’re planning on keeping the projector for a while or upgrading to a new short throw projector in future.

I am building a new house and won't have a dedicated theater room anymore. I purchased the Optoma CinemaX P1 based on a substantial amount of due diligence and research with the majority of info coming from your review. You were correct on all counts and the tweaks you suggested were easy to understand and implement with great results. On the issue of 3D, which was critical to me, the Optoma DELIVERS! I watched the final sequence of "Rogue 1" and the image did indeed "pop" and there were no...I mean NO issues with ghosting. You can't overstate the joy of watching space battles in 3D on a 120" screen (Vividstorm ALR) I don't know what is around the corner in UST systems, but this is exactly what I wanted right now. Quick note: A projector setting allows you to invert the 3D giving the image depth (my preference) as opposed to having it pop out at you. It's located right under the 3D menu.

  • @JoshFisher567

    @JoshFisher567

    I have seen both and the colors and HDR are noticeably better on the P1. I do feel like Optoma jumped the gun on the soundbar. At this price, most people are already going to probably have some sound solution. With that said, the soundbar is better then any TV speakers that I've heard. I haven't seen the LG but pretty much all reviews give the edge to the P1 on color but the LG has better black levels. The LG using a new laser system that doesn't need a color wheel. This apparently doesn't get rid of rainbow effect, but makes it way less noticeably to people who see it, lucky I don't but that really jacked up the price of the LG. Now, double the price than the Xiaomi, for me it came down to being able to buy from a authorized reseller at 2999. Go check avsforums, people have had issue with returns with Xiaomi, eight week turn around time.... Three year warranty with the P1 , no taxes and 40% off any ALR screen is why I chose the P1. photos.app.goo.gl/AovX9MnrjGuEpAFf7

    Are any of the currently available projectors native 4k or are they all pixel shift? Hope these start showing in show rooms soon. They look great on YT but there is nothing that tells you quality better than see the actual picture. Also from viewing on YT I see little difference in picture compared to the much talked about VAVA. Other than the look of the unit (which isn't worth the extra $$$ IMO) what does this projector offer the VAVA doesn't for the extra $1000 it cost?

    When viewing in a completely dark room, with white walls, is it better to have a white or black UST projector? Which colour projector is less noticeable while watching movies/gaming? I'm thinking of getting the Optoma P2............so can you still play games in game mode with HDR enabled? My LG TV has a HDR Game mode which allows HDR gaming and improved input lag at the same time. I'd hate to use the P2 for gaming in game mode for better input lag, but have to go without the HDR for games that support it. Also, I hear the Optoma P2 has an input lag of around 69ms while my LG TV is around 34ms. Is 69ms still ok for first person shooters? Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks

    I have a Sony HD 55es front projector shown onto a 120in Stewart screen. I have a complete Klipsch reference premier sound system with 7.2.4. I have a Denon avr x4200w powering it all. The system sounds amazing and my Sony still has a decent picture but I'm dying to jump into the 4k market. I'm a quadriplegic (spinal cord injury) but I still love movies and in my bedroom I own a Sony xbr x930e 65in tv which does display 4k imagery. I use my Xbox one X as my 4k player and it's nice watching Disney plus on the tv. I'm really thinking about replacing my Sony 55es hd projector and going with either a 4k short throw laser or another 4k overhead projector. I love your videos and I'm kind of liking this optoma 4k laser projector or even (is it the Epson that comes with the projector and special 120in grayish screen to give you the best contrast? ) I know that runs about $6,000. I know Sony has the 295es and I heard JVC is coming out with a budget front throw projector in the $3,500 range. I really like the idea of these short throw projectors! I'm sure they can give me a better picture than I have on my current Sony 55es. I think I got that on sale for $2,500 4yrs ago. I'd love your input as I can't make up my mind. The black levels and brightness sure seem nice on this optoma but I know Sony's 295es is native 4k but doesn't have the same brightness. Help me make a decision..😁👍 I really don't want to spend $10,000 on a projector. This optoma seems awesome and laser seems to be stepping up to the plate lately. Would love to know what you think, my friend. Nick PS Keep up the great work and your home theater is incredible!!

So, I changed the installation to the following, The HDMI ARC between the projector and the Ricever still the same, I only moved the HDMI blue ray cable from the Reciver to the HDMI port of the projector directly, and in this case no Delay and HDR has been detected automatically, Dose my installation correct ? Or what do you Advise me, explain me more please, where is the problem?, is it on my Sony reciver ?

    Rbe while filming is far more exaggerated. I've only ever seen RBE while watching a review. I've never seen it in person personally. Maybe I've never looked for it or I'm lucky to not be sensitive to it. Either way like he said in the video. If you learn to ignore it you stop really noticing like learning to get used to gray lettbox bars after having a full array TV for a few years.

    Right now around 130ms which is way off the 55ms advertised. I have discussed with Optoma rep on avsfourms and there is a firmware fix coming soon but pushed back because of virus. 55ms is fine for me I am a casual gamer. If you plan on hooking up a mouse and keyboard I would not recommend this PJ. I don't think any UST has that great of response time as UST has to intentionally distort the picture which adds processing time no matter what. It's just how the technology works but it will get better. I jumped in early but in a year or two I have a feeling these are going to come down in price. Now, if you want a good bang for your buck check out the Optoma gaming PJ. It's 1080P but it does HDR and accepts a 4K signal. HDR is more important then 4k with good source material. Think it has around 8ms lag. Short throw only but a lot cheaper. www.tweaktown.com/reviews/9294/optoma-gt1080hdr-short-throw-gaming-projector-review/index.html

    @@deny5172 Can't really go wrong with either choice. LG seems to have a slight advantage when it comes to OLED but Samsung isn't far behind. Seems like the burn in issue has mostly been resolved and you OLED has the best black levels due to no back light , at least not like Quantum/LED. I would of loved to get the 8K 98" Samsung Q900 but 60K is just out slightly out of my price range ;) . I think lag times on UST are bad due to how the technology works. All other brands suffer the same issue. The Xiaomi has 95ms. I think the LG might be a little better but not by much. My previous PJ was an Epson 5030UB and I don't even know what the lag time was. Either it was high or I just don't notice the difference when playing games on my Xbox One X on it vs the P1. For the P1, plug a PC and and the lag is obvious. I was skeptical of ordering a an ALR screen that only had 0.4 gain but I can't overstate how I'm just as impressed by my Grandview 100" ALR screen from a technology standpoint as I am with the P1. Below is short example. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hp182KelnqXdeKw.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/aodq2JKhnt23ZKg.html I wanted to go with Fresnel (links below) instead of lenticular (pretty much all UST ALR screens are lenticular). The issue was they are hard screen only and the only affordable ones had to be ordered from China and I couldn't find anyone willing to ship just one. Each has there strengths and weaknesses. lenticular based screens have better viewing angles and no glare but you take a hit in brightness due to the low gain. Fresnel (based of CRT rear projection tech) has amazing ALR from all angles and looks just like an LCD in full lighting conditions. and has a 1.0 to 1.2 gain. The cons are limited viewing angles, potential hot spotting and up untill recently, were limited to 100"s. Right now they seem to used manually in conference rooms and auditoriums as the top maker is DNP, which you can't find a price for, which means it costs a LOT. XY Screens had a very reasonably priced one, cheaper then some of the lenticular based ones but no one would ship it. DNP says they can now make them at any size but DNP seems to be more business based company then home theater based. I ended up getting the Grandview over the other brands as it was the cheapest lectangular one that could actually resolve a 4k pixel. Due to the texture of the Elite Aeon and some other brands, they can't resolve a 4K pixel which reduces sharpness. Some will argue that this doesn't matter but I wouldn't buy a 4K TV that couldn't resolve/produce 4K pixels. Yes, I know the P1 uses mirror shifting technology to achieve 4K so it's not true 4K but it does produce 4K output. That, and HDR content looks amazing. Obviously you are going to get the best results in a dark room but the difference between my lights being on 20% vs off is about a 5% improvement in picture quality.
